East of Eden — Netflix
This limited-series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel arrived October 1, according to Netflix’s October slate and Axios. Florence Pugh plays Cathy Ames; Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist are also among the cast. Choose it for an ambitious literary family saga. This six-episode thriller stars Josh Hartnett as a Newfoundland fisherman whose family and neighbors face a threat from a sea creature offshore. The Associated Press placed its premiere in the October 5–11 window. Its compact episode count makes it a good pick for an atmospheric thriller that does not require a long commitment. Set around rival London law firms, this drama follows opposing sides of a high-profile divorce involving a tech entrepreneur and a movie star. Axios listed it among October 1 streaming arrivals. It suits viewers looking for legal maneuvering and high-stakes personal conflict. Axios’s guide includes the series.
Scrubs, season 2 — Hulu
The revival returns to Sacred Heart. Axios notes that J.D. supports Dr. Cox as Cox’s autoimmune illness stops responding to treatment, giving the season’s comedy a serious emotional thread. As of October 7, the second season is upcoming, not yet available. Amazon describes Chris Pratt’s James Reece as setting out on a globe-spanning journey after completing his list and uncovering a conspiracy connected to his family history. If you want action and a continuing story, mark the scheduled date—but check Prime Video for any schedule change. About Amazon’s U.S. Prime Video schedule lists the October 21 release.

The Diplomat, season 4 — Netflix
Kate Wyler returns amid fallout from the U.S. administration’s recklessness. This is the political-intrigue pick for viewers who prefer government crises and diplomacy to horror or comedy. Netflix includes the season in its October lineup.
Nobody Wants This, season 3 — Netflix

Carrie is the first television-series adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 debut novel and stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White.
