No single AI tool is best for every interview. The right choice depends on the round you face next: a behavioral screen, a coding or system design round, a product case, spoken-delivery coaching, a structured course, or a quick drill built from a job posting. This guide covers eight tools, what each is built for, and the free limits and prices as they were listed on September 30, 2026. Those prices are dated, so confirm them on each vendor’s site before you pay.

Most of the comparison data here comes from Huru’s 2026 roundup of AI mock interview tools. Huru also sells one of the products it ranks, so read its descriptions as its own view rather than independent testing.

How to choose before you sign up

Work through these five questions in order. Most people can narrow eight options to two within a few minutes.

  1. Interview type. Behavioral and general screens, coding and system design, product sense, or a sales or customer-facing conversation each favor different tools.
  2. Practice mode. Video with a camera, voice only, text chat, peer practice with another candidate, or a live human expert. Each shows you different things about yourself.
  3. Feedback type. Some tools grade answer structure, some focus on speaking delivery such as pace and filler words, some check technical problem solving, and some mainly deliver a course.
  4. Personalization. Check whether the tool can use the target job description and your resume to write the questions. Generic question banks are useful for warm-up but less so for the final week.
  5. Free limits and total cost. A free tier may cap sessions per month or allow only a lifetime number of sessions. Add up what you will realistically need across the weeks before your interview.

The eight tools at a glance

The table below uses the values reported in Huru’s comparison, checked against vendor pages on September 30, 2026. Where that comparison did not state a value, the cell says so.

The tools in detail

Huru: spoken practice for behavioral interviews

Huru uses camera-based practice for behavioral and role-specific questions. Its product description says it scores answers on relevance, structure, specificity, impact, and articulation, and lets you review your recordings afterward. This is the best fit if your main problem is organizing stories into clear, specific answers and you want to see yourself on camera. Huru states that the score is coaching feedback, not a hiring decision or a guarantee of an offer. Those are the company’s own descriptions of its product.

interviewing.io: technical mocks with engineers

interviewing.io is the strongest fit in this list for coding and system design preparation, because its core offering is live mock sessions with engineers. Its free AI interviewer covers the same formats without a human on the other end, which makes it a practical way to rehearse the rhythm of a technical round before booking a person. Expect the human sessions to be the expensive part of your plan.

Aced (formerly Exponent): peer and AI practice for tech and product roles

Aced combines peer practice with AI practice for tech and product interviews. Huru’s comparison reports that Pramp moved into Exponent and that Exponent is now Aced, so if you find older guides that recommend Pramp, they are describing a service that has been folded into this one. The free tier gives you a small monthly allowance of peer sessions, which suits a candidate who wants periodic live practice rather than daily drills.

Yoodli: spoken delivery roleplays

Yoodli focuses on how you say things rather than only what you say. It runs roleplay conversations, so it is most useful if you tend to ramble, rush, or lose your thread under pressure. The free allowance is small and lifetime rather than monthly, so use it to test whether the feedback style suits you before paying.

Big Interview: lessons first, then video

Big Interview is built around a curriculum. You work through structured lessons on interview technique and then record video practice. It is a sensible choice if you are new to interviews and want a method to follow. It has no free plan, so the one-month price is the entry point to compare against the free options above.

Interviews by AI: quick checks from a job description

Interviews by AI is designed for short drills. You paste or select a job description and answer spoken or written questions tailored to it. Its free allowance is limited, so it works best as a final-week check on role-specific questions rather than as your main practice tool.

ChatGPT: flexible practice, if you direct it

A general-purpose chatbot can act as an interviewer, a coach, or a critic, but only if you tell it what to do. A workable setup is to paste the job description, your resume, and the interview format, then ask it to ask one question at a time and critique each answer against a rubric you define. Voice chat is available on the free plan in limited amounts, and the comparison did not state paid plan pricing, which it said varies by country. Check your local pricing before you upgrade.

Final Round AI: assistance during a live interview

Huru’s comparison describes Final Round AI mainly as a tool that assists during a live hiring interview, with practice interviews included in its paid Pro plan. These are different activities. Practice happens before the interview, and live assistance happens during it. Before using any live-assistance feature, check the employer’s rules on outside tools, because many employers prohibit them. If your goal is preparation, the practice mode is the part that applies.

Free options have changed, and some names are unsettled

Two names come up often in older guides, and both need care.

  • Pramp. Huru’s comparison says Pramp moved into Exponent, which is now Aced. The current free allowance is the one listed for Aced in the table above, not a free Pramp plan from earlier years.
  • Google Interview Warmup. Huru’s comparison reports that Google retired this tool in March 2026. An August 2026 ranking of AI mock interview tools could not find a Google-published retirement notice or confirm the live page. Treat the retirement as reported but unconfirmed, and check Google’s own product announcements before you plan around it or write about it.

What the evidence does and does not show

There is little independent data on these commercial tools. The most specific published result comes from the PolyInterview paper, posted to arXiv on July 11, 2026 by Wen and colleagues. It describes an academic platform that generates interview questions from a target job description and CV, conducts multi-turn spoken interviews with follow-ups that respond to your answers, and assesses textual, vocal, and non-verbal behavior. In the authors’ analysis, questions generated for a session were more closely aligned with that session’s job description than with descriptions from other roles in 93.7% of sessions.

That figure measures how well a platform’s questions match a job description. It does not measure interview success, hiring outcomes, or how the commercial tools in this guide perform. Neither the vendor comparison nor the paper provides data on job-seeker adoption or verified hiring success for these products.

Where AI practice falls short

  • Speech recognition errors. An AI may mishear what you said, which can distort the feedback you receive.
  • No knowledge of the employer. A tool does not know the company’s culture, the team’s priorities, or the interviewer’s background unless you tell it.
  • Scores are not predictions. A high score on a practice platform shows that your answer met that tool’s criteria. It does not tell you that a hiring manager will agree.
  • A person still matters. Use AI for repeated practice, then book at least one human mock interview before the real round to get judgment that a tool cannot reliably provide.
