For a crime watchlist that spans psychological dark comedy, courtroom suspense, spy drama and an assassin thriller, these seven series are strong picks from 2024. The list comes from T3’s retrospective published on 24 December 2024; its streaming-service references reflect that publication date, not guaranteed availability today.

How to choose from this list

These are not all conventional detective procedurals. Choose by the kind of crime story you want: a stalking-and-trauma drama, a courtroom murder case, a criminal business, a revenge comedy, an intelligence-service story, a murder investigation or an assassin pursuit. T3’s descriptions and episode counts below are from its 24 December 2024 article.

The seven crime dramas

1. Baby Reindeer — psychological dark comedy

Written by and starring Richard Gadd, this miniseries was adapted from his one-man stage play and is based on true events. It follows a struggling London comedian and a woman he serves who becomes dangerously obsessed with him. Abuse, trauma and stalking are central themes, so it is a more unsettling choice than a conventional crime mystery. T3 reported seven episodes and Netflix availability at publication.

2. Presumed Innocent — courtroom suspicion

A Chicago prosecutor becomes the main suspect in the killing of a colleague with whom he had a relationship. Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard star, and David E. Kelley is the creator. T3 reported an eight-episode run and described the series as inspired by Scott Turow’s 1990 film; that wording does not establish the precise adaptation relationship. Apple TV+ was the service named at publication.

3. The Gentlemen — crime and inheritance

Guy Ritchie’s crime series follows Eddie Horniman, who inherits an estate where a cannabis business is already operating. The collision between family inheritance and criminal enterprise gives it a different engine from a case-of-the-week police drama. T3 reported eight episodes and Netflix availability when its article appeared. Its mention of a possible second season was a 2024 prediction, not a current status update.

4. Sweetpea — comic revenge premise

This eight-part comedy crime drama is based on a book of the same name. Rhiannon, a young woman who has been bullied and dismissed, sees her anger escalate after her father dies. The appeal is the character-driven, darkly comic premise rather than a standard investigation. T3 named NOW TV and Sky as viewing options in 2024 and reported that a second series had been commissioned at the time.

5. Slow Horses — MI5 misfits

Based on Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, the series follows MI5 agents whose career mistakes have landed them in a neglected department. Gary Oldman, Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas star. It suits viewers looking for spy intrigue with an ensemble of sidelined intelligence officers. T3 reported four seasons available on Apple TV+ and a fifth season confirmed in December 2024; those are dated season and availability claims.

6. Bad Monkey — darkly comic murder investigation

Vince Vaughn plays Andrew Yancy, a former police detective now inspecting restaurants. When a tourist finds a severed arm, Yancy is drawn into a murder investigation involving corruption. T3 reported a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but did not give a verification date or methodology, so the number should not be read as the current score. Apple TV+ availability and a confirmed second season were also reported in the 2024 article, not independently updated here.

7. Day of the Jackal — assassin thriller

Eddie Redmayne plays an assassin pursued by Bianca Pullman, played by Lashana Lynch, whom T3 identifies as working for MI6. The series is based on Frederick Forsyth’s book, making the novel a direct next step for viewers who want to explore the story’s source material. T3 named NOW TV and Sky as viewing options at publication.
