Manus is most useful when a job requires more than an answer: researching sources, operating a browser, transforming data, creating files, building a prototype, or repeating a workflow. For a clearly scoped request, it can often produce a useful first result in minutes. That does not mean a fact-checked report, secure application, or decision-ready recommendation is finished without review.
As of August 18, 2026, Manus presents itself as an agentic platform and says it is part of Meta. Its product surface includes research, data analysis, slides, website creation, connectors, browser operation, Wide Research, and scheduled tasks. The six examples below show where those capabilities have practical value.
What Manus does differently from a chatbot
Chat mode is suited to conversational answers and drafting. Agent mode can break a goal into steps, browse, use tools, manipulate data, create files, and return a deliverable. Browser Operator works in your local browser and existing authenticated sessions after you authorize it. Wide Research divides a batch of similar items among parallel agents. Scheduled Tasks rerun a workflow at specified times.
These controls make Manus action-oriented, not error-proof or fully autonomous. You can monitor work, intervene, and stop a browser task. The platform also uses credits, so one broad request can consume substantially more than a short question.

1. Research a topic and create a sourced report
What to ask
Research the U.S. market for [topic]. Use recent, authoritative sources. Create a report covering market size, major players, customer segments, recent developments, risks, and open questions. Put source links beside important claims and separate verified facts from estimates.
What comes back
Manus can produce a research plan, collect sources, synthesize findings, build comparison tables, add charts where appropriate, and return a report or presentation-ready structure. Its use-case materials cover market, company, academic, and article research (Manus use-case gallery).
Why it is useful
This is a strong fit for competitor overviews, product scans, executive background briefs, and literature-review starting points. A narrow brief may arrive in minutes; a broad, source-heavy investigation takes longer.
Prerequisites and failure modes
- State the geography, date range, source-quality rules, required fields, citation style, and excluded sources.
- Paywalled, blocked, dynamic, or region-restricted pages may be inaccessible.
- A polished report can still contain stale, unsupported, or misinterpreted claims.
- Financial, legal, medical, and regulatory conclusions require specialist review.
Review checklist
- Open important primary sources rather than relying only on summaries.
- Check dates, definitions, denominators, and whether an “estimate” is labeled.
- Remove claims that cannot be traced to evidence.
2. Analyze a spreadsheet or raw dataset
What to ask
Analyze the attached sales.csv file. Clean obvious formatting errors, identify missing values, calculate monthly revenue and year-over-year growth, find the top and bottom customer segments, and create a dashboard with charts. Explain every calculation and flag assumptions or data-quality problems.
What comes back
Manus can transform data, calculate summary statistics, identify trends and segments, create charts and dashboards, and return an explanation of anomalies. Its analyst offering specifically describes spreadsheet analysis, financial models, data processing, dashboards, scraping, and presentation-ready outputs (Manus for Analysts).
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Good candidates
- Sales, marketing, traffic, survey, customer-feedback, product-usage, and operational data
- Exploratory financial models and recurring performance reports
What can go wrong
- Mixed date formats, duplicate rows, ambiguous column names, missing values, outliers, currency differences, or biased samples can distort results.
- Personally identifiable information may require stricter handling than an ordinary file upload.
Review checklist
Recalculate key formulas, compare input and output row counts, inspect filters, confirm units and date ranges, and read every chart label before using the result in a business decision.
3. Research many companies, products, or competitors in parallel
What to ask
Analyze the 75 companies in this spreadsheet. For each, collect website, headquarters, product category, target customer, pricing signal, funding or ownership information, major differentiator, and recent news. Return a sortable table. Mark unavailable information as “not found,” never guess, and include a source for every row.
Why Wide Research helps
Wide Research splits independent, similar items among parallel agents instead of asking one conversation to maintain a growing list. Manus documentation says it has been tested with up to 250 items and that 50–100-item jobs typically take minutes, depending on complexity (Wide Research documentation). The Help Center describes it as a paid-user feature with a 50-credit cap per subtask (Wide Research Help Center).
Best applications
- Competitor matrices and supplier discovery
- Lead enrichment and recruiting lists
- Product-catalog research, app audits, and market landscapes
When not to use it
It is not the right tool for one deep investigation, real-time interactive research, or a tiny list of fewer than about 10 items. Site accessibility, source quality, and an unclear schema can make rows inconsistent.
Review checklist
Define exact columns, test a small sample, require source URLs and confidence labels, and inspect several rows manually before trusting the whole batch.
4. Create a presentation or executive deck
What to ask
Turn the attached market-research report into a 10-slide executive deck for senior leadership. Use a recommendation-led narrative. Include an executive summary, market size, competitor comparison, risks, recommendation, and next steps. Keep slides concise and cite sources in notes or footers.
What comes back
Manus can generate a slide outline, narrative, copy, visual elements, charts, styling, and potentially a PowerPoint export. Its analyst page describes moving from a brief to a client-ready deck, and the company blog lists the introduction of PowerPoint slides on July 14, 2026 (Manus for Analysts; Manus blog).
Where human judgment matters
- Check whether the story actually follows from the data.
- Verify chart types, calculations, sources, speaker notes, accessibility, and brand rules.
- Remove confidential material that should not appear in a shareable file.
Generating slides is a capability; creating a persuasive presentation still requires editorial judgment.
5. Build a website, dashboard, or lightweight internal tool
What to ask
Build a responsive internal dashboard for weekly marketing performance using the attached CSV as sample data. Add filters for date, channel, and campaign; cards for spend, leads, conversion rate, and cost per lead; weekly trend charts; and a note explaining that this is a prototype.
What Manus can build
The current product surface includes website building, web apps, design, and deployment. Manus describes interactive dashboards, data portals, landing pages, calculators, educational tools, and lightweight internal applications (Manus homepage; Manus for Analysts). A request may produce interface design, front-end code, basic data logic, deployment, and iterative edits through chat.
Important billing distinction
Development and editing use the credit system, while hosting and live application use can create separate usage-based charges for cloud, AI, and API resources. See Manus website usage and pricing before deploying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPrototype boundaries
- Authentication, database logic, third-party APIs, and error handling may need manual configuration.
- Test security, access control, data validation, performance, accessibility, backups, and ongoing maintenance.
- Traffic can increase hosting costs. A generated prototype is not automatically production-ready.
6. Automate a browser-based or recurring workflow
Browser Operator
Browser Operator can use a local Chrome or Edge session and existing logins after explicit authorization. To set it up:
Rank #4
- Open Manus’s Connectors area.
- Enable My Browser or the Browser Operator connector.
- Grant permission when Manus requests control.
- Watch the dedicated browser tab while it works.
- Click into the tab to take over, or close it to stop the task.
The documented integration examples include Crunchbase, PitchBook, Similarweb, Semrush, Ahrefs, CRMs, and financial research services (Browser Operator documentation; Browser Operator integrations).
Example request
Using my logged-in browser session, review these 20 competitor pages, extract product name, pricing language, target customer, and key features, then return a comparison table with the source URL for every entry. Do not submit forms, send messages, or make purchases.
Suitable workflows and limits
- Extracting information from authenticated services, updating a CRM, checking websites, comparing web applications, or preparing forms
- CAPTCHAs, rate limits, anti-bot systems, changed layouts, complex drag-and-drop, and multi-step forms can require manual intervention.
- The desktop browser must remain online for local Browser Operator tasks; a phone can start or monitor one but cannot replace that connection.
- Use restricted accounts where possible and avoid purchases, deletions, transfers, or outbound messages without confirmation.
Scheduled Tasks
After running a workflow manually, you can schedule recurring research, reports, price checks, monitoring, data collection, or updates (Scheduled Tasks documentation). Scheduling runs at defined times; it is not continuous real-time monitoring. Expired credentials, changed websites, unavailable APIs, or malformed data can still break a run, so inspect history and notifications.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How long does “in minutes” really mean?
A simple research brief, slide outline, dashboard prototype, or landing page may appear quickly. A polished report, large authenticated collection, production application, or legally sensitive workflow may require several runs. Scope, source access, record count, browser friction, integrations, output quality, and available credits all affect duration. Treat the first result as a working draft until a person checks it.

How to get better results while controlling credits
- Give one precise deliverable instead of “do everything.”
- Define geography, date range, schema, slide count, row limit, or website list.
- Require primary sources, dates, links, confidence labels, and explicit “not found” values.
- Tell Manus what it must not do, especially when accounts or external actions are involved.
- Ask for a plan or estimate before launching an expensive job.
- Test a small sample before processing a large batch or scheduling a workflow.
- Review the result before publishing, sending, deploying, or acting on it.
When Manus is the better fit—and when it is not
Choose Manus when the job is multi-step, repetitive, research-heavy, structured around a reviewable deliverable, and requires browsing, file creation, deployment, parallel processing, or scheduling. A normal chatbot such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini is usually faster for explanations, drafting, brainstorming, document discussion, and conversational iteration.
Use a dedicated development platform such as Lovable or Replit when code ownership, debugging, and long-term software maintenance matter more than mixed research and reporting. Presentation software, governed BI tools, mature browser-automation platforms, specialist databases, and conventional website builders remain better for precise design control, repeatable analytics, deterministic automation, authoritative data, or predictable hosting.
Do not make Manus the sole decision-maker for legal conclusions, medical advice, financial transactions, irreversible account changes, high-risk security work, compliance decisions, or unreviewed public claims.
Access, plans, and permissions to check
A Help Center page available March 16, 2026 lists Free at $0 per month with Chat Mode, Manus 1.6 Lite in Agent Mode, 300 daily-refresh credits, one concurrent task, and two scheduled tasks. It lists Pro starting at $20 per month with annual-billing savings and 4,000 monthly credits, another Pro tier starting at $40 with 8,000 credits and a seven-day trial, and Team starting at $20 per seat per month with annual-billing savings. These are plan signals, not guaranteed checkout prices, taxes, promotions, or availability; verify live pricing.
Model access varies by plan: the same page references Manus 1.6 Lite, Manus 1.6, and Manus 1.6 Max. Wide Research is paid-only according to its Help Center entry. Before connecting files or accounts, review current privacy, retention, training, and enterprise terms. Browser Operator documentation says it uses existing sessions and does not store passwords, but authorization still gives the agent access to actions available in that account.
