Six alternatives featured by HotHardware in its November 12, 2025 article cover budget IPS, curved VA, and OLED displays: Acer Nitro XV271U, Samsung Odyssey G65B, ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACMG, LG UltraGear 27GX700A-B, MSI MAG 272QPW, and ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG. They are worth comparing if you want one screen for a PS5 and a gaming PC, but their quoted prices are dated snapshots and their maximum refresh rates do not automatically apply to PS5.

The practical choice depends on the exact model and its HDMI modes, your preference for IPS, VA, or OLED, and the price available where you live. HotHardware’s list supplies the models and reported headline specifications; it does not establish independent comparative test results. Read the November 12, 2025 HotHardware article.

What the Sony monitor offers as a baseline

PlayStation describes its 27-inch Gaming Monitor with DualSense Charging Hook as a QHD, HDR-capable, VRR-capable display with refresh rates up to 240 Hz. The product page says it works with PS5 as well as PC, Mac, and other devices with HDMI or DisplayPort output. Sony’s November 11, 2025 announcement specifies a 2560 × 1440 IPS panel, up to 120 Hz on PS5 and PS5 Pro, and up to 240 Hz on compatible PC and Mac devices. The announcement said it would launch in the US and Japan in 2026; that announcement does not establish its current availability or price.

The hook for charging a DualSense controller is a distinct convenience feature. The six alternatives below are display candidates, not claims of equivalent controller charging or automatic PlayStation integration. PlayStation’s product details are at its official monitor page, and the original announcement is at PlayStation.Blog.

The following labels, specifications, and prices are those reported by Chris Harper’s HotHardware article on November 12, 2025. Prices are historical article-date figures, not current offers; verify the exact regional SKU, current price, availability, and manufacturer specifications before buying.

Deal pick LG UltraGear 27GX700A-B 27-inch OLED, 1440p, 280 Hz $549.99 OLED contrast and the article’s HDR positioning; the deal framing is time-sensitive.
White pick MSI MAG 272QPW 27-inch OLED, 1440p, 280 Hz $559.99 White styling with OLED; confirm exact suffix and availability.
Overall pick ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG 26.5-inch OLED, 1440p, 360 Hz $699.99 OLED and the highest listed refresh maximum, at a premium article-date price.

HotHardware’s “brightest,” “deal,” and “overall” labels are the article’s recommendations, not independently verified measurements or rankings. Its argument that OLED models may provide stronger HDR and image quality than an IPS screen is an editorial assessment, not a comparative laboratory result.

How to choose by panel and form factor

IPS: Acer Nitro XV271U and ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACMG

These are the two listed IPS options. The Acer is the value-oriented candidate in HotHardware’s lineup, while the ASUS combines an IPS panel with a higher reported PC refresh ceiling. If you play on both console and PC, compare each exact model’s supported HDMI resolution-and-refresh combinations rather than choosing solely by the largest number on the box.

VA: Samsung Odyssey G65B

The G65B is the only VA model in this list and the only one described as curved. That makes curve preference a real part of the decision: a curved display may suit a desk setup, but it is not the right shape for everyone. Confirm which G65B version is sold in your region and its console input capabilities.

OLED: LG, MSI, and ASUS ROG Strix

The three OLED candidates are the LG UltraGear 27GX700A-B, MSI MAG 272QPW, and ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG. HotHardware positions them around OLED contrast and image quality; the supplied specifications do not establish a controlled comparison of brightness, HDR performance, or picture quality between these models and the LCD alternatives. The MSI is identified as the white option, while the ASUS has the highest listed refresh maximum and the highest listed price.

Why a monitor’s maximum refresh rate is not its PS5 refresh rate

A 240, 270, 280, or 360 Hz maximum may refer to a monitor’s PC mode. It does not mean a PS5 will output a game at that rate. Sony’s November 2025 announcement, for example, listed up to 120 Hz for PS5 and PS5 Pro on its own monitor, versus up to 240 Hz for compatible PC and Mac devices.

For any alternative, check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact model and confirm the HDMI port supports the resolution, refresh rate, and VRR mode you plan to use with your console. What to verify before buying

  • Exact model and suffix: Similar monitor names can refer to different regional or hardware versions. Match the listing to the full model number in the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • PS5 mode over HDMI: Confirm 1440p output and the refresh rate supported together on the HDMI input, rather than relying on a headline maximum that may apply only to a PC connection.
  • VRR support: Check whether the precise model supports the console’s required HDMI VRR mode; do not assume that a generic VRR label guarantees every compatibility combination.
  • PC connection and refresh: If high refresh is important on PC, verify which input and resolution support the advertised maximum and whether your graphics hardware can make use of it.
  • Fit and finish: Decide whether you want a flat or curved screen, standard black styling or the MSI’s white design, and whether the 26.5-inch ASUS suits your desk.
  • Live value and terms: Compare current local listings, warranty coverage, and stock. The prices in the 2025 article are not a present-day price guide.
