In the Web Almanac’s 2025 analysis, 48% of mobile websites and 56% of desktop websites achieved good Core Web Vitals (CWV). The figures are based on measurements from July 2025 and were published in the 2025 report in 2026. They describe the share meeting Google’s loading, responsiveness, and visual-stability thresholds—not a single universal page-load time.
2026 site speed statistics at a glance
The newest broad comparison in the available sources is the HTTP Archive’s 2025 Web Almanac Performance chapter, published January 15, 2026 and updated May 5, 2026. Its primary measurements are from July 2025. The percentages below refer to websites in that analysis, not every page or every site on the internet.
| Measure | Result | Population and date |
|---|---|---|
| Good CWV, mobile | 48% | Websites in the Web Almanac 2025 analysis; measurements from July 2025 |
| Good CWV, desktop | 56% | Websites in the Web Almanac 2025 analysis; measurements from July 2025 |
| Good CWV, home pages | 45% mobile; 47% desktop | Home pages in the Web Almanac 2025 analysis; measurements from July 2025 |
| Good CWV, secondary pages | 56% mobile; 61% desktop | Secondary pages in the Web Almanac 2025 analysis; measurements from July 2025 |
| Typical desktop page weight | 2.3 MB across 71 requests | Typical page in The State of Web Vitals Q2 2026 page-weight dataset |
| Desktop page weight at the 75th percentile | 4.5 MB | Pages in The State of Web Vitals Q2 2026 page-weight dataset |
The Almanac combines HTTP Archive lab measurements with CrUX field data, which records experiences from real Chrome users. The page-weight figures come from a separate dataset: The State of Web Vitals reports that its Q2 2026 desktop page-weight view covers 185,486 sites. These results answer different questions and should not be treated as one shared census.

Google’s current guidance sets three CWV thresholds. They describe different parts of a user’s experience, so a site can pass one and miss another.
#1 Best Overall
- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset

| Metric | What it measures | Good threshold |
|---|---|---|
| Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) | How soon the largest visible content element appears | 2.5 seconds or less |
| Interaction to Next Paint (INP) | Responsiveness across user interactions | Under 200 milliseconds |
| Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) | Visual stability, including unexpected movement as a page loads | Under 0.1 |
These thresholds are from Google Search Central’s Core Web Vitals guidance, checked October 7, 2026. In practice, a “good CWV” result means meeting the good threshold for all three metrics, rather than simply loading quickly according to one stopwatch.
How home pages compare with other pages
In the Web Almanac’s July 2025 measurements, secondary pages had higher good-CWV rates than home pages on both device classes. Good CWV appeared on 56% of secondary pages versus 45% of home pages on mobile, and on 61% versus 47% on desktop. The Almanac notes that caching and more templated page designs may help explain the gap. The comparison is about page types in that analysis; it does not establish that every site’s home page is slower than its inner pages.

How performance changed from 2024 to 2025
The 2024 Web Almanac reported that 43% of mobile websites met good CWV when interaction was measured with INP. Using the former First Input Delay (FID) metric instead produced a 48% mobile rate. That difference reflects INP’s broader coverage of interaction responsiveness, not proof of a sudden five-point decline in users’ experience. On desktop, the 2024 report found 54% of websites with good CWV regardless of whether INP or FID was used in that comparison.
For context beyond CWV, the 2024 report also found that 42% of mobile websites had good Time to First Byte (TTFB), 40% needed improvement, and 19% were poor. Those rounded categories total 101% in the source. For First Contentful Paint (FCP), 68% of desktop websites and 51% of mobile websites were good in June 2024.
Rank #3

- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
These figures are from the Web Almanac Performance chapter for 2024, published November 11, 2024 and updated February 4, 2025. Comparisons across years need care: metrics and definitions can change, and the 2024 report cautions that CrUX reflects Chrome users rather than all browsers or every region.
What page load and performance metrics actually tell you
LCP: when the main content appears
LCP focuses on the largest content element visible in the viewport. A page may show a header or spinner quickly but still have a poor LCP if its main image or headline takes too long to appear. Google’s good threshold is 2.5 seconds or less.

INP: whether interactions respond promptly
INP reflects responsiveness across user interactions, rather than only the first interaction. A delay after tapping a menu or submitting a form can make a page feel sluggish even if its initial content appeared quickly. The good threshold is under 200 milliseconds.
CLS: whether content stays put
CLS captures visual instability, such as content shifting unexpectedly while a user is reading or trying to tap a control. Its good threshold is below 0.1.

FCP and TTFB: useful diagnostics, not substitutes for CWV
First Contentful Paint measures the time from a user’s request until the first content is rendered; the Web Almanac’s good threshold is under 1.8 seconds. TTFB measures the time until the browser receives the first byte. It includes redirects, DNS lookup, connection and TLS setup, and request processing. These measures can help identify where delays begin, but neither replaces LCP, INP, or CLS as a Core Web Vital.

A lab test and field data do not represent the same conditions. Lab data is a controlled observation of a page load, useful for repeatable diagnostics. Field data reflects actual user experiences, which vary by device, network, location, browser, and interaction. The Web Almanac combines lab and field sources for its 2025 analysis; individual field reports may differ because their user populations and aggregation methods differ.
- Check the metric: LCP, INP, CLS, FCP, TTFB, and page weight describe different performance characteristics.
- Check the device: mobile and desktop results are reported separately for good reason.
- Check the date: a statistic measured in 2024 is not interchangeable with a 2025 or Q2 2026 result.
- Check the unit of analysis: a percentage of websites, a page-type result, a URL group, and a specific URL test are not the same denominator.
- Check the data source: Chrome field experience, a controlled lab run, and a page-weight explorer each have distinct coverage.
How to check your own site’s performance
Use Search Console for grouped real-user trends
Google Search Console’s Core Web Vitals report uses CrUX real-user data and groups similar URLs. It is intended to show site-wide patterns and issues affecting groups of pages, not to determine the status of every indexed URL or diagnose one specific URL. See Google Search Console Help’s Core Web Vitals report guidance.
Use PageSpeed Insights to test a particular URL
For a specific page, run an individual test with PageSpeed Insights. Its result can differ from the Search Console group because the tools answer different questions: one tests a URL, while the other summarizes grouped field data. Use the field-data view to understand real-user experience when available, and lab diagnostics to investigate potential causes.
What these numbers mean for search and site owners
Google recommends good Core Web Vitals for Search success and user experience, noting that they align with what its core ranking systems seek to reward. Passing CWV does not guarantee a higher ranking or a specific ranking gain. For a site owner, the practical value of these statistics is to set a meaningful benchmark, identify which experience is weak, and prioritize improvements based on real user impact rather than treating “speed” as one number.
