Fairphone (Gen. 6) is the clearest repairability-first pick among these five phones: iFixit describes adhesive-free screen and battery repairs, and Fairphone provides parts and repair instructions. HMD Skyline and HMD Fusion are strong alternatives for accessible hardware repairs; Google Pixel 10 and Apple iPhone Air provide official repair pathways in more conventional designs, with adhesives still a complication. These are comparisons of documented repair design and support—not hands-on testing or an overall phone-quality ranking.

iFixit’s scores are its own assessments, not regulatory ratings, and should not be treated as measures of performance, durability, warranty coverage, or parts stock. iFixit says it updates its scoring rubric, so scores from different years may not be directly comparable. Which repair needs matter most?
Battery replacement
A battery is a common repair, but access varies: check whether it can be reached without heat or extensive adhesive work. iFixit describes Fairphone 6 battery repair as adhesive-free. Skyline’s battery uses mild adhesive; iFixit also describes battery replacement on iPhone Air as involving electrically released adhesive.

Screen replacement
All five receive positive screen-repair notes from iFixit, but the details differ. Fairphone 6 is described as adhesive-free; HMD Fusion’s display is secured only with screws. Skyline, Pixel 10, and iPhone Air have screen repairs prioritized in their layouts, though that does not make every repair simple or risk-free.

Charging-port repair
Do not assume that an accessible screen or battery means an easy port repair. iFixit describes Pixel 10 charge-port repair as improved over prior models and HMD Fusion USB-C port repair as straightforward.
Parts, manuals, and compatibility
Repairability depends on access to the right part and instructions for the exact model, not just how a phone comes apart. Fairphone’s support page lists guides for the battery, display, top unit, cameras and earpiece, loudspeaker, and USB-C port. Fairphone warns that parts do not fit across generations. Google says genuine parts are sold through iFixit and its manuals cover Pixel 6a and newer phones. The company recommends self-repair only for people with relevant technical experience. Review Google’s Pixel repair options and manuals. HMD’s support information covers parts and instructions for common repairs on its supported devices; confirm that the specific model and parts are supported in your region.

Warranty coverage and repair channels vary by model and country. Fairphone advises contacting support first when a repair might be covered. HMD says self-repairs using genuine parts, tools, and guides from its named partners count as authorized for supported self-repair devices; that statement should not be generalized to every model or to non-genuine parts. Before buying or starting a repair, confirm that the relevant part is stocked and sold where you live, that the instructions match your exact model, and whether opening the device affects any applicable warranty or service coverage. Documented repair support does not establish current stock or availability in every country.

- Consider HMD Skyline if you want a repair-oriented Android alternative with accessible screen and battery repairs and a documented 9/10 iFixit score.
- Consider HMD Fusion if straightforward access to the display, battery, back cover, and USB-C port is the priority; do not infer a score from Skyline’s rating.
- Consider Google Pixel 10 if you want a conventional phone with official manuals and parts, while accepting that adhesive remains part of the repair process.
- Consider iPhone Air if you want an Apple repair pathway and screen-prioritized layout, but do not mistake that for Fairphone-style modularity.
“You have the right to repair the things you own—but how easily can that be done?” asks iFixit in its repairability framing. For a phone, the practical answer depends on the repair you may need, the exact model, local parts supply, and whether you are comfortable doing the work yourself.
