PlayStation lists DOOM Eternal, Rainbow Six Siege, Fortnite, Destiny 2 and The Division 2 among shooters with PS5-specific features. The enhancements vary by game, and “free” does not mean every PS4-to-PS5 upgrade is free: Sony says upgrade costs and availability depend on the title. Check the offer for your game and region before downloading or buying.
Which PS4 shooters have PS5-specific enhancements?
PlayStation’s feature descriptions highlight five games. Their listed modes and features are not identical, and frame-rate and resolution figures are targets rather than independent test results. See PlayStation’s PS5 games feature page for its game descriptions.

| Game | PS5 features PlayStation lists | Cost or condition stated on the cited page |
|---|---|---|
| DOOM Eternal | Three modes: Balanced targets 60 FPS with sharp 4K visuals; Raytracing adds lighting effects and reflections while targeting 60 FPS; 120 FPS mode targets double the frame rate. 4K and 120 FPS depend on a supported display. | PlayStation calls the PS5 update free. |
| Rainbow Six Siege | Performance mode targets 120 FPS; resolution mode features 4K visuals targeting 60 FPS. PlayStation also lists faster loading, DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. | PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer. The cited feature description does not state the current upgrade price. |
| Fortnite | 4K visuals targeting 60 FPS, enhanced physics, fluid simulations and environmental details, plus DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers. | The cited feature description does not state the current upgrade price. |
| Destiny 2 | 4K visuals targeting 60 FPS, reduced loading times and enhanced performance targeting 120 FPS. | PlayStation describes the game as free-to-play on PS5. That does not establish the price of expansions or other current commercial terms. |
| The Division 2 | PlayStation describes play at 60 FPS and 4K on PS5. | PlayStation says this is at no additional cost; this does not establish the current price of the base game. |
Display support matters: a compatible screen is needed to make use of the cited 4K or 120 FPS targets. The listed features describe what PlayStation says each PS5 version offers; they are not a guarantee that every display or setup will show the same output.
Does a PS4 shooter automatically get a PS5 version?
No. Sony says the overwhelming majority of more than 4,000 PS4 games are playable on PS5, and select titles may benefit from Game Boost for higher or smoother frame rates. Sony also warns that some PS4 games can show errors or unexpected behavior. Backward compatibility lets you play the PS4 version; it is not the same as installing a dedicated PS5 version with game-specific features. See PlayStation Support’s backward compatibility guidance.
#1 Best Overall

- Players take on the role of Reaper, contract sniper assassin, operating in the heart of a lawless region of the Middle East along the Lebanese and Syrian borders
- Tasked with a seemingly impossible mission - to topple an insidious criminal syndicate and bring them to justice
- For the first time, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2 delivers precision long-range shooting campaign with targets over 1,000 meters away

Is the PS5 upgrade free, and what do you need?
It depends on the game and offer. Sony’s upgrade FAQ says an upgrade can be free, require purchase, or be time-limited. A compatible PS4 version may remain playable on PS5 without upgrading, but the PS5-specific features listed above belong to the relevant PS5 version. Confirm the current offer on the game hub or PlayStation Store for your region and edition; a general list of enhanced games does not prove that a particular copy has a free upgrade. Sony’s PS5 FAQ also notes that save transfer between PS4 and PS5 versions is decided by each developer, so check the individual game rather than assuming progress will carry over.
- Digital PS4 copy: Install compatible digital PS4 games from your library. If a PS5 upgrade is offered, its availability and price are title-specific.
- PS4 disc: You need a PS5 with a disc drive to use the disc and redeem any applicable disc-based offer. PS4 game discs do not work on PS5 Digital Edition.
- Online play: PlayStation Plus is required for Rainbow Six Siege online multiplayer, according to PlayStation’s feature page.
- Controller features: DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers are listed for some games; the cited descriptions do not make a DualSense a requirement for every PS5 upgrade.
Before purchasing a console or an upgrade, check that your game edition is eligible, that the offer appears in your region, and that your display supports any resolution or frame-rate target you want to use.
