Which five drone brands are being discussed?
A September 14, 2026, BGR article names DJI, Antigravity, Potensic, HoverAir, and Skyrover. The corporate links it describes are not equivalent, and ownership information is not equally documented for each name.

What “owned by a Chinese company” means here
Ownership, headquarters, brand affiliation, and founders’ employment history are separate facts. A spin-off may indicate an organizational connection, but it is not a complete account of the resulting company’s ownership. A company headquartered in Shenzhen or Hangzhou is not thereby shown to be owned or controlled by the Chinese government. DJI, specifically, describes itself as privately owned and operated.
DJI also issued a statement on September 30, 2025, saying a U.S. district court rejected most Department of Defense allegations, including claims of government ownership or control, while allowing the designation at issue to remain. That is a dated account from DJI, not a basis for asserting the status of later legal proceedings.

Skyrover: a former-DJI-engineer connection

How to interpret claims about Chinese drone market share
In testimony recorded at a 2021 U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure hearing, Chinese-based companies were said to account for more than 80% of the U.S. drone market, with DJI at approximately 70%. These are historical figures from 2021 testimony—not a 2026 market-share estimate—and they do not establish the ownership of each brand listed above.

The list is useful for understanding the brands’ reported connections and the different kinds of aircraft described, but it is not a current buying guide. Product specifications, prices, bundles, availability, and applicable rules can change. Check the maker’s current model information and local requirements before buying or flying, especially if a particular camera capability, weight, or flight time is decisive.
