Five companies with documented U.S. optical-fiber or cable manufacturing activity are Corning, AFL, Prysmian, Lightera, and CommScope’s Cable Exchange business. They are a practical shortlist, not a verified ranking: the available information does not establish comparable market shares, audited output, or independent product-test results. A company’s U.S. footprint also does not prove that every cable it sells is made in the United States. For a purchase, check the manufacturing origin and specifications of the exact product.
How these five manufacturers were selected
This shortlist focuses on companies with documented U.S. optical-fiber or cable production, relevant product breadth, and applications in broadband, enterprise networks, or data centers. The names are listed alphabetically because the available sources do not support a measured first-to-fifth ranking.
“U.S. manufacturer” can refer to a company that makes optical fiber, finished cable, or both. Production may span multiple countries, and some facility information applies only to a particular business or product line. Treat each company’s footprint as a starting point, then verify where the specific cable is manufactured.
Five notable U.S. fiber-optic cable manufacturers
AFL
AFL identifies itself as a manufacturer, engineer, and installer of fiber-optic products and equipment, with headquarters in Duncan, South Carolina. It lists cable manufacturing locations in Duncan and North Grafton, Massachusetts, as well as facilities outside the United States. Its cable portfolio includes OPGW and ADSS for overhead deployments, enterprise and premise cable, and harsh-environment designs. AFL says its cables are made to order to customer specifications, which may suit projects with particular construction requirements. Facility lists do not establish the origin of every AFL product; confirm the manufacturing site for the cable under consideration. AFL cable products and manufacturing locations; AFL company profile.

CommScope / Cable Exchange
CommScope’s Cable Exchange business says it manufactures fiber and copper cables, trunks, and related products for data-center and enterprise applications at U.S. manufacturing centers in Santa Ana, California, and Pineville, North Carolina. This information describes Cable Exchange; it should not be taken as proof that all CommScope cable products are made at those sites. Ask the seller to identify the origin and exact product line for a particular order. CommScope Cable Exchange.
Corning
Corning’s FY2025 annual report describes optical fiber, cable, and connectivity products for advanced communications networks, including fiber-to-the-home and data centers. In June 2026, the company announced a multibillion-dollar agreement to supply optical fiber, cable, and connectivity for Amazon’s U.S. data-center infrastructure. That is evidence of a dated supply agreement, not an independent measure of Corning’s market rank or proof that every product is domestically produced. Corning also joined AFL, Lightera, and Prysmian in a March 2026 statement about U.S. manufacturing and BEAD/BABA-compliant supply. What the BEAD and BABA claims mean for buyers
The Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program is a federal broadband funding program. The U.S. Department of Commerce/NTIA’s 2025 Quadrennial Supply Chain Review describes it as a $42.5 billion program. For a federally funded project, domestic-origin compliance is not something to infer from a manufacturer’s U.S. presence: it depends on the applicable program requirements and the product’s manufacturing process.
Prysmian’s account of BABA describes U.S. production requirements involving preform, fiber drawing, and cable finishing. That illustrates why it is important to request documentation for the specific product and project rather than rely on a general statement about a company’s U.S. operations. Check current program-specific requirements with the funding agency or contracting authority, and obtain the manufacturer’s supporting documentation for the SKU being bid. In its March 16, 2026 joint statement, AFL, Corning, Lightera, and Prysmian said U.S. fiber and cable manufacturers collectively produce approximately 135 million fiber-kilometers annually and estimated that peak BEAD-related demand would use less than 5% of total domestic capacity. These are dated industry figures published by Corning on behalf of companies with a direct interest in domestic supply capacity, not independently audited findings. The statement’s claim that the industry can support BEAD for its duration is the four companies’ position, not an independent regulator’s determination. March 2026 joint statement.

Compatible with Cisco, Ubiquiti, Mikrotik, Juniper, HPE, Arista, TP-Link, Netgear, Intel, Fortinet, Zyxel, Mellanox, Supermicro, Huawei, ZTE, Brocade, D-Link, and others.
- Match the route and environment. Determine whether the run is aerial or overhead, buried or in duct, indoors, in a data center, or exposed to a harsh environment. OPGW and ADSS, for example, are relevant to overhead applications; an indoor cable or data-center trunk has different design needs.
- Specify construction and performance. Compare fiber count and type, bend characteristics, armor or messenger, water blocking, and fire/smoke rating where applicable. Confirm connector and termination compatibility. The sources cited here do not provide a like-for-like specification comparison across all five manufacturers, so consult each product’s data sheet.
- Verify origin and compliance. Ask which facility made the exact cable and request current, project-specific country-of-origin or BABA documentation if required. A company’s U.S. facilities or a broad commitment do not establish the origin of every SKU.
- Check procurement fit. Confirm availability, lead time, customization, support, and compatibility with the network design. AFL describes made-to-order cable, but the available sources do not offer comparable lead times, prices, or service ratings across the five companies.
Is there a single “best” U.S. fiber-optic cable manufacturer?
The available evidence does not establish a neutral winner. The right choice depends on the cable construction, deployment, required origin documentation, and procurement needs. Corning, AFL, Prysmian, Lightera, and Cable Exchange each have documented relevance to U.S. manufacturing, but that alone is not a comparative quality score. Request quotes and product data for the same specification, then compare manufacturing origin, compliance evidence, availability, and technical fit.
