Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI is set in Leonida and is currently scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Five newly highlighted details cover the world’s regions and scale, its weather, wildlife, character variety, and robbery and police systems. These feature details come from TechRadar’s October 1, 2026, report on Game Informer’s cover story; they are not independent hands-on findings.

1. GTA 6’s world spans six named regions

TechRadar’s summary of the Game Informer cover story identifies six regions in Leonida: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut described the setting as the biggest world the studio has made “by some degree.”

TechRadar also characterizes the map as twice the size of GTA V’s. Treat that comparison as TechRadar’s report, rather than a separately verified official measurement. Garbut’s remarks, as reproduced by TechRadar, emphasize not just size but interior detail and cohesion: “We obsessed about every part – the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between to the point we hit a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors, and you start to feel the buildings are more real inside and out.” TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 report attributes the region list and comments to the cover story.

2. Weather is designed to vary by place and persist

The reported weather system includes clear skies, showers, storms, puddles that linger after rain, rainbows, and lighting that shifts with conditions. The emphasis is on weather that changes across the map and leaves visible effects, rather than a single uniform state.

Owen Shepherd, Rockstar’s vice president of art for lighting and rendering, told Game Informer, as quoted by TechRadar: “We have re-engineered our weather system to make everything much more localized and persistent, and really wanted the world to feel dynamically solid and achieve a sense of scale we haven’t felt before.” Shepherd also described cloudscapes moving across the map and contrasted clear Miami winter skies with cumulonimbus clouds associated with Florida’s summer and autumn.

3. The report counts 170 animal species

TechRadar reports that the game features 170 animal species, including more than 60 kinds of birds and over 30 land mammals, alongside fish and reptiles. Examples named in the report include flamingos, pelicans, and alligators. These are figures attributed to Rockstar in the cover-story coverage, not results from an independent species count.

Michael Kane, Rockstar’s vice president of dynamic art, said the team wanted to represent Florida’s varied habitats: “Florida has a diverse animal ecosystem that we wanted to faithfully include across the different biomes in Leonida – urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades.” Kane also said the teams researched animals to make their appearance and movement accurate.

4. NPCs are reported to have more varied appearances and animation

According to TechRadar’s account of the Game Informer feature, GTA 6 will have more than 600,000 combined NPC animations. The same report describes a broad range of character heights, skin and body types, facial features, hairstyles, and clothing. Clothes can also show context-sensitive wear, while accessories such as shoes, watches, sunglasses, and hats contribute to characters’ regional and cultural identities.

Kane said Rockstar had created “the biggest range of garments and accessories we’ve ever made – supported with rich, realistic materials.” The animation figure and clothing details are reported claims; the coverage does not describe an independent measurement or player test.

5. Robberies and police pursuits add more escape choices

TechRadar’s summary says players can control Lucia or Jason during robberies. It also reports a six-star Wanted system and a new “Heat” system in which police may collect identifying information about a character’s appearance and vehicle. Changing clothes or vehicles, or splitting up, can therefore affect how players approach an escape.

The report says one protagonist can be arrested and trigger a Busted screen even if the other gets away. These robbery and pursuit specifics are attributed to the Game Informer coverage as summarized by TechRadar; they should not be read as independently verified gameplay.
