No VPN has been shown to be the best choice for Rainbow Six Siege. The independent reviews that rank VPNs for gaming test other games and general network conditions, not Siege, so calling any one provider the best for this game would claim more than the evidence supports. What follows is a shortlist of five providers that recur in those gaming reviews, what each source actually reports, and a simple way to find out whether a VPN changes your own connection at all.

Why there is no proven winner for Siege

Gaming VPN rankings are built from tests across several titles, networks and countries. A provider that lowers ping for one player may add delay for another, because the result depends on the player’s ISP routing, the server they are matched to, and the time of day. None of the sources reviewed measured Siege across providers, so treat the names below as candidates to test on your own connection, not as winners.

The five candidates

The shortlist comes from two independent sources: Top10VPN’s gaming VPN guide, updated August 5, 2026, and PC Gamer’s VPN review, dated April 29, 2026. Both are general gaming assessments. The table shows what each one says and what remains unestablished for Siege.

Provider Where it appears What the source reports What is not established for Siege
ExpressVPN Top10VPN gaming guide, placed first Top10VPN cites console setup options. ExpressVPN’s own guidance says the effect on ping depends on route conditions and the game. Any Siege-specific latency result. The provider’s guidance is not an independent test.
NordVPN Top10VPN gaming guide, close second Top10VPN describes it as the lowest-ping paid pick in that guide’s own testing. NordVPN advises choosing nearby servers, fast protocols and testing actual gameplay. Independent Siege results. The testing described is gaming-wide and the advice is the provider’s.
Surfshark Top10VPN gaming picks; PC Gamer review (2026) PC Gamer discusses WireGuard support and broad device compatibility. Its measurements are tied to the specific game and route it tested. Siege performance. Value for money was not checked against current pricing here.
Windscribe Top10VPN free gaming pick; PC Gamer review Top10VPN notes a 10 GB monthly allowance on the free plan. PC Gamer reports low-ping observations in Counter-Strike 2 and a compatibility issue with Valorant. Whether the Counter-Strike 2 or Valorant findings carry over to Siege.
Mullvad PC Gamer review Presented as a privacy-focused provider. A Siege-specific performance advantage, and whether it suits every platform.

When comparing these providers, weigh them on the following points, in this order: measured latency and jitter in published tests (noting which game was tested), protocol choices and connection stability, nearby server availability, PC versus console setup, privacy and account requirements, and current price and renewal terms. Download speed is a different measure from gaming latency and should not be used to judge a gaming VPN.

What Ubisoft has said about Siege connectivity

Ubisoft states that Siege automatically connects each player to the data centre in their region. The support material reviewed does not say that a VPN can choose a specific Siege region.

Ubisoft’s connectivity statement, from an older status report whose date is not shown on the page reviewed, reads: “Connectivity is a varied topic that encompasses many different areas such as internet service providers, our backend services (such as matchmaking), our game servers, our game server provider, and even DDoS attacks.” That list is the reason a VPN can only address one part of the path.

  • Triple-Level Game Acceleration - The GT-BE98 Pro boosts your PC gaming traffic every step of the way, from your PC gaming port all the way to the game server.

The same older report gave baseline figures. During regular periods of activity, Ubisoft said 97% of Ranked games started with 10 players, and more than 98.5% of matches ended without an individual connection loss, a high-ping kick or a game server crash. Those figures describe a past period and are not a 2026 measure of VPN performance.

The report also said that “anything less than a ping of 110ms is considered acceptable.” Treat that as a dated statement from an older report, not a current enforcement threshold or a target to optimise for.

The same report listed these server regions: West EU, North EU, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Australia, US West, US East, US Central South and Brazil. Because that list is historical, check current in-game or official Ubisoft support information for the regions available to you.

What a VPN can and cannot change

  • It can change the route. Traffic travels to the VPN server first and then on toward the game server. If your default ISP route is inefficient or congested, a nearby VPN server with a better path may reduce latency.
  • It can add delay. Encryption and the extra hop often increase ping. Whether the net effect is positive depends on the route, not on the provider’s marketing.
  • It cannot fix a weak baseline connection. Packet loss and jitter from a poor Wi-Fi link, an overloaded home network or a faulty line will persist behind a VPN.
  • It cannot fix distance or Ubisoft-side problems. A distant game server, a matchmaking issue, a server outage or a DDoS incident sits outside the VPN’s reach.

How to test your own connection with and without a VPN

  1. Record a baseline with the VPN off. Pause large downloads, cloud sync and streaming on the same network, then play a set of Siege matches in one time window rather than a single match.
  2. Connect to a VPN server close to your location, using the protocol and app settings you would use normally. Note the server name and region.
  3. Play a comparable set of matches in the same time window, ideally at the same time of day as the baseline, so that peak-hour congestion does not skew the comparison.
  4. Measure a reference host with ping. On Windows, run ping -n 50 <host> in Command Prompt. On macOS or Linux, run ping -c 50 <host> in Terminal. This measures the general path to that host, not the path to a Siege server, so use it as a network-quality check. If your Siege build shows network statistics in-game, use those as the primary measure.
  5. Compare average latency, jitter, packet loss, and the number of disconnects or high-ping kicks in each set.
  6. Keep the VPN only if latency and loss are equal or better and disconnects do not increase. If results are worse, disable it and use the direct connection.

Console players and VPN routers

Many consoles cannot run a VPN app, so console players face a different setup question. NordVPN’s router guidance explains that a VPN-configured router can cover consoles that lack an app. It also distinguishes preconfigured routers from routers that need manual setup. Before buying, check that the router supports the protocol your VPN uses, such as OpenVPN or WireGuard, and confirm that your provider works with it. The guidance is from NordVPN, and no individual router was independently tested for Siege. A VPN router is a setup path, not a source of lower ping, so run the same baseline test described above once it is configured.

Anti-cheat and account considerations

On August 7, 2026, Ubisoft News described a shared kernel-level anti-cheat solution in development, stating that Siege would be among the first games to use it in Season 3. That is a roadmap statement from that date, not confirmation of how the system works today. Nothing in that announcement addresses VPN use. Check Ubisoft’s current rules and fair-play requirements before relying on any VPN setup for a Siege account.

Choosing among the candidates

  • Consoles with no VPN app: consider a configured router, and test it before committing to a long subscription.
  • A stable wired PC connection with low ping: the most likely outcome is no improvement, so a paid VPN is hard to justify for Siege alone.
  • A PC with ping spikes that a VPN test improves: shortlist the providers in the table and run the test with each one, keeping the same region and time window.
  • Privacy as the main priority: Mullvad is the candidate the sources describe as privacy-focused, though that does not establish a gaming advantage.
  • No budget: Windscribe’s free plan is the only free option in the sources reviewed, and it is subject to the monthly allowance noted above.
