Which of the five shoes suits your running?
For daily miles and walking: Gel-Cumulus 27
At the lowest listed price, $89, the Gel-Cumulus 27 is the straightforward pick for someone seeking a comfortable daily trainer that can also handle walks. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer described its ride as smooth. The $89 price is the October 2 offer, and the exact listing may differ by size and color.

The Sonicblast was listed at $89, down from the article’s reported former price of $180. It is the plated option among these five, aimed at tempo and interval workouts rather than being the obvious choice for everyday walking. The reviewer said he did not love its ride, while still considering the half-price offer worthwhile; that is an individual assessment, not a guarantee you will prefer its feel.
#1 Best Overall
- Runs Large
- Breathable engineered jacquard mesh upper
- Tongue wing construction: Added stretch helps improve the fit while reducing tongue movement
- FF BLAST MAX cushioning: Helps provide a lightweight and energetic ride
- Trampoline-inspired outsole design: Helps provide a more responsive bounce back Reflective details: Designed to help improve visibility in low-light settings
For a comfort-first ride: Gel-Nimbus 27
The Gel-Nimbus 27 was listed at $109 against a reported former price of $165. The reviewer said he enjoyed running in it and found its character little changed from the newer version. Treat that as his tested impression: fit and ride preference remain personal, and the current price of the newer model may affect which generation is the better buy.
For stability: Gel-Kayano 32
At $124 against a reported former price of $165, the Gel-Kayano 32 is the stability-oriented shoe in this selection. Tom’s Guide describes it as cushioned support for runners who overpronate. A discount alone is not a reason to choose a stability shoe if that is not the kind of fit and support you want.
For a versatile daily trainer: Novablast 5
The Novablast 5 was listed at $129, compared with a reported former price of $160. The reviewer characterized it as a comfortable daily training shoe for a wide range of runners. It is the most expensive of these five reported offers, so compare its fit and ride against the cheaper daily-mile option rather than choosing by model name alone.

ASICS announced newer models in its RISE & SHINE collection on August 17, 2026, including the GEL-CUMULUS 28, GEL-NIMBUS 28, GEL-KAYANO 33, NOVABLAST 6, and SONICBLAST 2. ASICS said the collection would be globally available from August 24, starting at $140. That is the manufacturer’s announcement; it does not establish the current price or stock of any particular shoe listing.
Tom’s Guide’s reviewer judged that the Cumulus 28 was not a major upgrade over the 27, that the Kayano 33 was not a big upgrade over the 32, and that the Nimbus 28 changed weight without changing the shoe’s character in his view. Those are the reviewer’s judgments, not universal findings. Compare the actual listing for the older shoe with the newer generation in your size and preferred color; an older model is not automatically the better value.
For Sonicblast 2, ASICS says it redesigned the forked ASTROPLATE and extended FF TURBO SQUARED cushioning farther through the midsole and trampoline pod, alongside a dual-foam midsole with FF BLAST MAX. The company reports that Sonicblast 2 is approximately 14 grams lighter than its predecessor, based on men’s US size 9 shoes. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. ASICS product executive Paul Lang said the company focused on refining the franchise’s energetic feel rather than completely reinventing it.
Quick Recap
How to verify the deal and decide
- Open the Amazon listing for the exact model and select the size and color you would actually buy.
- Check the price and availability shown for that variant. The October 2 prices are a snapshot; Amazon prices, stock, and variant pricing can change.
- Compare the chosen older model with its newer counterpart at the price currently shown, considering intended use and fit as well as the discount.
- If the offer is unavailable in your preferred variant, compare another listing or retailer rather than assuming the reported price applies there.
