You can’t install these extensions directly in ordinary Chrome for Android. Google’s documented “Add to Desktop” option sends an extension to desktop Chrome, where it becomes available the next time you open Chrome on a computer. For these five picks on an Android phone, use Firefox for Android instead; its add-on manager supports them, subject to each add-on’s compatibility and permissions.
Can you use Chrome extensions on Android?
Not in the ordinary Chrome for Android app through the process Google documents. Google’s Chrome Web Store instructions say to tap “Add to Desktop” when installing from a phone; the extension is enabled the next time Chrome opens on a computer. That does not install it in Chrome on the phone.
To use the extensions below on Android, install Firefox for Android and add them there. Mozilla explains how to find add-ons, review their requested access, install them, and manage them in its Firefox for Android add-on guide. Mozilla also cautions that some add-ons may not be compatible with Firefox for Android, so check the Android availability and compatibility shown on each listing.

uBlock Origin: block unwanted content
uBlock Origin is a free, open-source, wide-spectrum content blocker. Its default filters block ads, trackers, coin miners, and pop-ups; you can enable additional filter lists or create custom rules if you want more control. The listing requests access to website data and related browser activity, which is relevant to how a content blocker works.

The developer describes efficiency and low resource use as design goals. That is not an independent Android comparison, so don’t treat it as a measured speed or battery advantage over other extensions.
Dark Reader: change bright websites to dark
Dark Reader creates dark themes for websites and lets you adjust brightness, contrast, sepia, fonts, and an ignore list. It requests access to tabs and website data. Use it if you prefer a darker appearance; the available evidence does not establish universal visual compatibility or guaranteed battery savings.

Bitwarden Password Manager: manage passwords and passkeys
Bitwarden Password Manager supports password storage, password generation, autofill, sharing, and passkeys. Its listing advertises a free offering and premium plans for advanced features; check the listing for which features are included in each. The extension requests access to website data, so review the permission prompt and consider which sites you want autofill to serve.

Privacy Badger, published by EFF Technologists, learns to block hidden trackers and sends Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals. Its listing says it requires broad website access to do this work. The developer says the extension does not require data collection; that statement is the developer’s, not an independent audit.

Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin both address unwanted tracking, but they work differently: uBlock Origin uses filter lists, while Privacy Badger learns to block trackers and sends privacy preference signals. The listings describe those approaches; they do not establish which is more effective in a controlled comparison.
Tampermonkey: run scripts for a specific purpose
Tampermonkey is the power-user option, not an automatic improvement for everyone. It manages userscripts with an overview, built-in editor, ZIP import and export, update checks, and browser or cloud synchronization. Because scripts can affect websites and the add-on can access website data, install only scripts from sources you trust and understand.

The Mozilla Add-ons listing showed version 5.5.0, last updated May 8, 2026, when accessed October 7, 2026. The other version details are time-sensitive too: the listings showed uBlock Origin 1.75.0 (updated September 16, 2026), Dark Reader 4.9.133 (updated September 24, 2026), Bitwarden Password Manager 2026.9.3 (updated October 1, 2026), and Privacy Badger 2026.9.15 (updated September 15, 2026), as accessed October 7, 2026. Check each listing for current details before installing.
How to install and manage an add-on in Firefox for Android
- Open Firefox for Android and tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Add-ons to open the add-on manager.
- Select an extension, confirm that its listing supports Android, and review the access it requests.
- Tap Add and follow any permission prompt. Install only if the requested access makes sense for the extension’s job.
- Return to the add-on manager to update, disable, or remove add-ons you no longer want. Start with one or two and check that essential websites still work.
Google’s general extension guidance is to “Make sure you only approve extensions that you trust.” Some extensions need permission to read and change site data, so broad access should be a deliberate choice, not a prompt to accept automatically.

Should you use Kiwi Browser for Chrome extensions?
Kiwi Browser is not a sensible current workaround to recommend. Its project README says it is archived and will no longer be maintained after January 2025, and advises users to explore alternatives to stay secure and up to date. For these picks, Firefox for Android is the maintained route documented by the relevant add-on listings.
How to choose among the five
- Choose uBlock Origin for broad, filter-list-based content blocking.
- Choose Dark Reader if your priority is a dark appearance on websites.
- Choose Bitwarden if you want password and passkey management in the browser.
- Choose Privacy Badger for its adaptive tracker-blocking approach and privacy signals.
- Choose Tampermonkey only if you have a specific, trusted userscript you want to run.
These are different tools for different jobs, not a tested ranking. The available listings do not provide comparable Android measurements for speed, battery use, data saved, or page-load improvement.
