Yes—supported IKEA smart lights can pair directly with a Philips Hue Bridge, provided the IKEA light runs software version 1.2.x or later. Reset the light, place it near the bridge, and search for it in the Hue app. For other goals, such as coordinating IKEA and Hue through a broader smart-home platform, Matter and Home Assistant offer separate routes with different setup requirements and feature limits.
1. Pair an IKEA smart light directly with a Hue Bridge
This is the simplest option if you already own a Hue Bridge and want to control a compatible IKEA light through the Hue system. IKEA says the light needs software version 1.2.x or later. Its pairing instructions give this procedure:
- Check the IKEA light’s software version. It must be 1.2.x or later for the documented direct pairing procedure.
- Reset the light. Toggle its main power switch six times, following IKEA’s reset procedure.
- Move it close to the Hue Bridge. Keep the light near the bridge while pairing.
- Search for new devices in the Hue app. Start device discovery and follow the app’s prompts.
If the light has software older than 1.2.x, IKEA says to update it using an IKEA gateway and the IKEA Home smart app before trying the Hue pairing procedure. The direct route does not require buying an IKEA hub if the light already meets the software requirement.

IKEA says its smart lighting uses Zigbee Light Link and is compatible with other Zigbee-certified products. That supports the documented route to pair an IKEA light with a Hue Bridge, but it does not guarantee that every IKEA model will expose every Hue feature. IKEA’s compatibility FAQ explains the protocol context; check the behavior you need rather than assuming complete feature parity.

2. Use DIRIGERA and Matter for broader platform control
If your aim is to bring devices into a Matter-capable smart-home platform, IKEA describes DIRIGERA as a Matter Bridge. Home Assistant documents DIRIGERA support through Matter or HomeKit. This is an ecosystem-level integration route, not a documented method for adding an IKEA bulb directly to the Hue app.
Matter can provide basic device controls without carrying every manufacturer-specific function. Philips Hue says Hue products connected through its Bridge work with Matter; Home Assistant also describes its Matter integration and the limits of platform-level control. Check the current device and hub support for your setup in the Philips Hue Matter information and Home Assistant Matter documentation.

3. Coordinate Hue and IKEA through Home Assistant
Home Assistant documents separate integrations for Hue and IKEA’s gateway. That lets Home Assistant coordinate devices connected to each system in automations, without treating the IKEA light as though it were necessarily a native Hue device. This is useful when the goal is cross-system routines rather than managing everything in the Hue app.
The trade-off is additional setup and another platform to maintain. Home Assistant notes that Matter control is basic compared with the Hue integration, which can provide Hue-specific features such as dynamic scenes and entertainment mode. Consult the current Home Assistant Hue integration and IKEA TRÅDFRI/DIRIGERA integration instructions for the route that matches your devices. The documented integrations do not certify every combination of light, hub, and firmware.

4. Keep each brand on its native system and coordinate above it
If you want to retain IKEA’s native controls or Hue-specific functionality, keep each brand connected through its documented system, then coordinate them through a supported Matter platform or Home Assistant. This avoids making a direct pairing attempt the centerpiece of a setup when you need features that may not carry over across brands.
Choose the integration layer according to what you need: Matter can connect supported devices to a broader platform, while Home Assistant can coordinate separate integrations and use Hue’s dedicated integration for Hue features. Confirm current support for your exact hubs and devices in the Hue Matter guidance and the Home Assistant IKEA integration documentation before changing how your lights are connected.

Which route fits your setup?
| Route | Best fit | What it requires or provides |
|---|---|---|
| Direct IKEA-to-Hue pairing | You want the IKEA light in the Hue system and already have a Hue Bridge. | IKEA light software 1.2.x or later; reset, keep it close to the bridge, and discover it in the Hue app. Older software needs an IKEA gateway and IKEA Home smart app to update. |
| DIRIGERA with Matter | You want IKEA devices available to a Matter-capable home platform. | Uses the IKEA hub’s Matter Bridge path; it is not, by itself, a documented direct IKEA-bulb-to-Hue-app pairing route. |
| Home Assistant | You want automations across devices connected to separate IKEA and Hue systems. | Uses the documented IKEA and Hue integrations, with added platform setup; Matter controls are basic compared with Hue-specific integration features. |
| Native systems plus an ecosystem layer | You want to preserve brand-specific controls while coordinating systems. | Keep devices on their supported systems and use a compatible Matter platform or Home Assistant; verify support for the exact hubs and devices. |
