These four luxury smartwatches suit very different buyers: Apple Watch Hermès Ultra 4 offers the broadest smartwatch experience, TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 leans into Swiss watch styling, H. Moser & Cie Off-Grid is a limited-function hybrid, and Garmin MARQ prioritizes sports and navigation. The right choice depends less on a shared definition of “luxury” than on the features you want—and the premium you are willing to pay for materials, finishing and brand design.
How the four watches compare
| Watch | Best suited to | What stands out | Price and availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch Hermès Ultra 4 | iPhone users who want a full-featured smartwatch with Hermès styling | Apple Watch software and health features, plus Hermès bands and exclusive faces | Apple’s US Ultra 4 starting price is $799. Hermès US lists the En Mer configuration at $1,499 and Grand H at $3,149; prices vary by configuration. Apple and Hermès |
| TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5 | Buyers drawn to traditional Swiss watch design and luxury branding | Two case sizes and AMOLED displays; uses TAG Heuer’s operating system rather than Wear OS, according to Stuff | Stuff reported US prices from $1,600 and UK prices from £1,350 on 2 October 2026. | H. Moser & Cie Off-Grid | Buyers who want a conventional watch look with a small amount of digital functionality | Quartz movement, small monochrome display and long stated battery life in time-only mode | Stuff reported CHF 3,900 and said both 1,000-piece colourways were sold out when its article appeared on 2 October 2026; current availability is unverified. Stuff |
| Garmin MARQ Gen 2 | Sports tracking and navigation users who value premium materials | Titanium case, domed sapphire and AMOLED display across five themed variants | Stuff gave a historical launch range of $1,900–$2,400 and £1,600–£2,100; these are not verified current prices. Stuff |
Apple Watch Hermès Ultra 4: broad smartwatch features, distinctive styling
The Hermès version makes most sense if you want Apple Watch functionality and specifically value Hermès design. Stuff describes it as an iPhone-only watch distinguished chiefly by its straps and exclusive faces, rather than a separate smartwatch platform. Apple’s Ultra 4 technical page identifies the 2026 model’s 49 mm Grade 5 titanium case, offered in natural or black, and S11 chip. Apple’s technical specifications
Hermès’ US collection lists the En Mer Ultra 4 at $1,499 and a Grand H titanium configuration at $3,149. Those are prices for specific configurations, not a single price for every Hermès model, and listings may change. The En Mer listing specifies knitted nylon made in France, Grade 5 titanium, a 49 mm case, 100 m water resistance and recreational diving to 40 m. Hermès En Mer product page
Apple announced the Ultra 4 at a US starting price of $799, with store availability beginning 18 September 2026. Its announcement also highlights a new Health Sensing System, readiness score, S11 chip and outdoor workout tracking of up to 45 hours. That $799 starting price is for Apple Watch Ultra 4, not the Hermès configurations. Apple’s announcement

TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E5: traditional watch design with smartwatch trade-offs
TAG Heuer’s Connected Calibre E5 is the styling-led option for someone who prefers a luxury watchmaker’s design language to Apple’s familiar interface. Stuff’s 2 October 2026 roundup reports 40 mm and 45 mm versions, AMOLED displays and a Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor. It gives battery estimates of up to 1.5 days for the 40 mm model and up to two days for the 45 mm model.
The same roundup says the E5 uses TAG Heuer’s own operating system rather than Wear OS and lacks contactless payment. Those details, along with the reported US price from $1,600 and UK price from £1,350, come from Stuff; current official specifications and prices were not independently confirmed. If notifications, app support or payments are essential, check the exact model’s current compatibility and feature list before buying. Stuff’s roundup

H. Moser & Cie Off-Grid: a hybrid, not a full app smartwatch
The Off-Grid is the outlier if “smartwatch” means a wrist computer with a broad app catalogue. Stuff describes a quartz watch with a small monochrome screen for GMT and other timekeeping functions, rather than a conventional full-featured smartwatch interface. Its stated battery life is up to 12 months in time-only mode, or up to six months when using other functions.
Stuff reported a CHF 3,900 price and two colourways limited to 1,000 pieces each, both sold out when the article was published on 2 October 2026. That is a dated availability report, not confirmation of current stock. Stuff’s roundup

Garmin MARQ: premium materials for sports and navigation
Garmin MARQ Gen 2 is the sports-and-navigation choice. Stuff describes five themed variants with titanium cases, domed sapphire and AMOLED displays. It also notes that the platform overlaps substantially with Garmin’s less expensive Fenix and Epix sports and navigation watches. That makes the comparison practical: if your priority is tracking and navigation, consider whether the MARQ’s materials and finish justify the extra cost over those alternatives.
Stuff reported a launch range of $1,900–$2,400 in the US and £1,600–£2,100 in the UK. These are historical launch figures, not verified current prices. Current pricing, specifications and availability were not independently confirmed. Stuff’s roundup

Are luxury smartwatches worth it?
They can be, if the premium pays for something you personally value: the Hermès look and bands, a watchmaker’s design, a scarce hybrid or Garmin’s higher-end materials. It is harder to justify the premium on function alone when a less expensive watch in the same ecosystem already meets your needs. The MARQ/Fenix/Epix comparison is especially relevant if sports features matter more than case finish; with Hermès, the distinction is chiefly styling layered onto Apple Watch capabilities.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How do luxury smartwatches differ from regular smartwatches?
There is no single difference across all four. In the Hermès case, the luxury distinction is chiefly materials, bands and exclusive faces on the Apple Watch platform. TAG Heuer emphasizes watchmaker styling but, according to Stuff, makes different software and payment trade-offs. MARQ pairs sports functions with premium materials, while Off-Grid sacrifices broad smartwatch functionality for a more conventional watch experience and much longer stated battery life. The premium may buy design or materials rather than additional digital capability.
What features should you look for?
- Phone compatibility: The roundup describes Apple Watch Hermès Ultra 4 as iPhone-only. Confirm compatibility before buying any model.
- Software and payments: Check the available apps, operating system and payment support; Stuff says TAG Heuer’s E5 lacks contactless payment.
- Battery and charging: The reported figures range from TAG Heuer’s estimates of up to 1.5 or two days to the Off-Grid’s stated months in restricted modes. Different use patterns and functions make these figures unlike-for-like only in a broad sense.
- Materials and fit: Compare case size, case material, crystal and band. Apple specifies the Ultra 4’s 49 mm Grade 5 titanium case; Hermès’ En Mer listing specifies knitted nylon made in France.
- Water use: Look for the exact water-resistance and activity limits on the configuration you plan to buy. Hermès lists the En Mer at 100 m water resistance and recreational diving to 40 m.
- Price by region and configuration: Distinguish a base model price from luxury configurations and historical launch pricing. The cited Hermès US prices are for named configurations, while the MARQ figures are launch ranges.
What is the difference between a hybrid and a smartwatch?
A full smartwatch is built around a digital interface and connected features; a hybrid keeps a traditional watch presentation while adding a narrower set of electronic functions. In this group, the Off-Grid is the hybrid: it has a small monochrome display and timekeeping functions, not the broad app-and-notification experience associated with an Apple Watch. Its long stated battery life comes with that more limited feature set.
