Four tires finished ahead of the Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ in ADAC’s 2025 all-terrain comparison: the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015, Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA, General Grabber AT3, and Matador MP72 Izzarda AT2. That result applies to ADAC’s eight-tire test in size 225/65 R17; it does not establish that these models outperform the Pirelli in every size, vehicle, or off-road setting.

What the test actually establishes

ADAC published its comparison on 6 May 2025. It tested eight all-terrain tires in 225/65 R17, and the Pirelli Scorpion A/T+ placed fifth. Four models ranked above it: Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015, Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA, General Grabber AT3, and Matador MP72 Izzarda AT2. The evidence supports four test-scoped alternatives—not a list of twelve proven winners.

ADAC grades run from 1 (best) to 6 (worst). The Pirelli received an overall grade of 3.8. Its grades were 3.1 for dry roads, 3.5 for wet roads, 3.8 for snow, and 1.9 for gravel. Its strong gravel result did not make up for weaker performance on paved and snow-covered surfaces in ADAC’s overall assessment.

The four tires that ranked ahead of the Pirelli

Model What the 2025 ADAC result supports What to keep in mind
Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 Finished ahead of the Pirelli in ADAC’s 225/65 R17 comparison. Its individual grade and category results are not stated in the available comparison summary.
Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA Overall grade 3.1; wet-road grade 3.0. ADAC called it the most balanced tire in the test and the best in wet conditions. Gravel traction was a weakness. The grade and comments refer to the tested 225/65 R17 tire.
General Grabber AT3 Finished ahead of the Pirelli in ADAC’s 225/65 R17 comparison. Its individual grade and category results are not stated in the available comparison summary.
Matador MP72 Izzarda AT2 Finished ahead of the Pirelli in ADAC’s 225/65 R17 comparison. Its individual grade and category results are not stated in the available comparison summary.

The comparison summary establishes the relative finish for all four models, but only the Falken’s specific overall and wet-road grades are provided here. Do not read the table as evidence that every alternative beats the Pirelli on every surface.

Why the Falken is the clearest evidence-backed alternative

The Falken has the strongest detailed case in the reported results: ADAC rated it first for wet-road performance and described it as the most balanced tire in the field. In ADAC’s test, wet braking from 80–0 km/h measured 39.7 m for the Falken and 45.1 m for the Pirelli. Snow braking from 30–0 km/h measured 11.4 m for the Falken and 11.8 m for the Pirelli. These are measurements from that test and size, not predictions for other sizes, vehicles, or road conditions.

The tradeoff matters if your driving includes unpaved terrain. ADAC identified the Falken’s gravel traction as a weakness, while the Pirelli was second-best on gravel and the lightest tire in the test. A driver who spends more time on gravel may value that difference more than a road-weighted overall ranking suggests.

Why the ranking may not match your priorities

ADAC’s overall weighting assigns 35% to dry roads, 40% to wet roads, 20% to snow, and 5% to gravel. That makes the result useful for understanding a broad mix of road conditions, but it gives gravel performance much less influence than paved-road performance. If your use is predominantly off-road, compare the surface-specific results and your actual terrain rather than choosing from overall position alone.

ADAC’s 2025 release cautions that all-terrain tires are not a good choice on paved surfaces from a driving-safety standpoint, referring to the tested group. That is an important context for buyers considering an AT tire for a vehicle used mostly on roads. Tread that looks more aggressive is not, by itself, proof of better wet braking, handling, or snow performance.

How the Pirelli compares across surfaces

Wet roads and snow

ADAC described the Pirelli as challenging to control on wet and snow-covered roads. Its wet-road grade was 3.5 and its snow grade was 3.8. Tyre Reviews’ synthesis of two independent tests also reports recurring weaknesses in snow braking, traction, and handling, while placing the Pirelli fifth on average, with finishes ranging from fourth to sixth. That synthesis is secondary evidence; ADAC’s individual 2025 comparison is the direct source for the figures above.

Gravel and dry roads

Gravel was the Pirelli’s strongest category in ADAC’s comparison: it received a 1.9 grade and ranked second-best on gravel. Dry-road behavior was a relative strength in Tyre Reviews’ synthesis, although the ADAC dry-road grade was 3.1. These strengths help explain why the Pirelli may still appeal to drivers prioritizing gravel use over the wet-road advantages demonstrated by the Falken.

Check fitment before choosing a replacement

The ADAC results apply to 225/65 R17. They do not establish how the same models perform in other sizes. Before buying, confirm the tire size, load index, and speed rating required for your vehicle, and make sure the exact model and specification are available in your market. Pirelli lists the Scorpion All Terrain Plus in US sizes from 16 to 20 inches and describes it as an all-season all-terrain tire for pickups and SUVs; availability and specifications vary by size and market. The product page also identifies the tire as severe-snow-service rated and bearing the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol.

  • Match the full size marking to the vehicle’s approved fitment.
  • Check the required load index and speed rating rather than relying on the model name alone.
  • Consider how much of your driving is on wet roads, snow, dry pavement, gravel, or other off-road surfaces.
  • Use the test ranking as evidence for the tested size and conditions, not as a universal promise for every fitment.
