Helix, Bear and Leesa each publish a 365-night trial for mattresses bought directly from the brand, according to their current official policy pages checked on October 9, 2026. The terms are not identical, though. Each one has its own start trigger, minimum waiting period, eligibility limits and geographic or channel conditions, and those details decide how much the headline number is worth to you.
Treating a bed with no trial as a red flag is a reasonable buying heuristic. It is a judgment about purchase risk, not a proven industry standard, and a trial length says nothing about comfort, durability or build quality.

What the three brands currently offer
Helix Sleep, Bear Mattress and Leesa all appear on the portfolio page of 3Z Brands, which lists them as its House of Sleep Brands (https://www.3zbrands.com/). Each brand’s own policy describes a 365-night trial for direct purchases:

The brands’ own wording is direct. Leesa’s support page says: “Our mattresses come with a 365-night trial period.” Bear’s terms say: “You may request a return of your mattress within 365 nights from the delivery date of your mattress.” These are brand statements, not independent test results or consumer assessments.

Read the clock before the number
A 365-night headline describes the maximum window, not the time you have to decide. Three details shorten or delay the practical test period:
- The start trigger. Helix and Bear both count from delivery. Check the delivery date on your shipping confirmation, because it starts the clock regardless of when you first sleep on the bed.
- The minimum adjustment period. Helix requires a 30-day break-in before a mattress return. Leesa and Bear each require at least 30 nights before a return can be requested. Anything you return before that point is not covered by the trial.
- Return logistics and refund deductions. Refund deductions, pickup requirements and return shipping costs are set in each brand’s terms. The policy pages reviewed for this article do not give a uniform figure for these, so read the return section of the current terms before you buy.
Eligibility limits that change the value
Several conditions limit who can use the trial and how many times:

- Geography. Helix limits its trial to customers in the United States and Canada. The Leesa and Bear terms reviewed do not state a comparable geographic limit.
- Purchase count. Leesa’s full trial covers the first two mattress purchases per household and shipping/billing address. Bear’s current terms limit mattress returns to one per household or address and to the first order.
- Product status. Bear excludes closeout, final-sale, clearance and older-dated mattresses from the trial. A discounted bed may therefore carry a shorter or no trial, even when the same model is sold at full price elsewhere.
Older Bear pages still appear in search results describing a 120-night term. Its current terms and trial page state 365 nights for purchases on or after October 7, 2026. If a page you find describes a different length, check its date against those terms.

A direct-brand trial does not automatically carry over to a retailer. Leesa states that retail partners may have different policies, and its support article on retail-store purchases, updated March 10, 2026, is framed around a 120-night trial (Leesa retail-location trial article). Ask the seller for its written return policy before you order.

No specific marketplace listing, seller or marketplace return term was verified for this article. Do not assume that a listing for any of these brands carries the direct-site 365-night policy.
Is this a single launch?
The official pages establish that the three brands currently publish 365-night terms. They do not show one joint announcement from 3Z Brands covering all three on a single date. The clearest dated change is Bear’s terms, which apply to purchases on or after October 7, 2026. Leesa’s current policy page is dated May 2026, its trial support page was updated October 5, 2026, and Helix’s support policy was updated October 7, 2026. The safer description is that the three brands now offer year-long direct trials, with the policy dates shown above.

Why a missing trial is a red flag, and where that logic stops
A sleep trial shifts some risk from you to the seller. A mattress is hard to test in a showroom, and comfort often becomes clear only after several weeks of sleep. A brand that offers a long return window is accepting the cost of unhappy returns. A seller that offers no trial is asking you to judge the bed before you have slept on it, which is why the absence is worth noticing.
The reasoning has limits. No independent study was found that compares trial lengths with return rates or customer satisfaction, so the length of a trial is not evidence that a mattress is comfortable or well made. A bed without a trial can still be good value if the seller offers an unusually strong warranty, a generous store return policy or a reliable exchange process. The useful question is not whether a trial exists, but whether the return path you would actually use is written down and clear.

A trial is not a warranty
A sleep trial and a product warranty protect against different things. A trial lets you return a bed you do not like within the stated window. A warranty covers defects over a longer period. Leesa’s terms treat its trial and return policy separately from its product warranty terms. Bear’s sleep-trial page is titled “365-Night Sleep Trial & Limited Lifetime Warranty,” which places the two side by side, but the trial and warranty each have their own conditions. Read both before you judge a seller’s protection.
Checklist before you buy
- Open the brand’s own sleep-trial page and its Terms and Conditions, and note the date on each.
- Confirm that you are buying from the brand directly, not a retailer or marketplace seller.
- Check whether your address is in the brand’s geographic coverage, such as the United States and Canada for Helix.
- Count your mattress purchases for the household or address against the brand’s limit, such as two for Leesa or one return for Bear.
- Confirm the start trigger, which is usually delivery, and mark the earliest date you can request a return after the minimum break-in period.
- Read the return section for pickup, refund deductions and return shipping.
- Keep the order confirmation and written terms in case the policy changes after purchase.
Policy terms change, so confirm them on the day you buy and note the date you checked.
The Bottom Line
Helix, Bear and Leesa each currently offer a 365-night direct mattress trial, but the minimum waiting periods, purchase limits and eligibility rules differ. Treat a missing trial as a signal to read the seller’s return terms closely, not as proof of poor quality.
