To move photos from an iPhone to an Android tablet, use Google Photos for cloud access, Apple’s iCloud Photos transfer service to copy an existing iCloud library to Google Photos, or a computer as a USB bridge. First decide whether you need to see the pictures in an app or save files locally on the tablet: cloud access does not automatically create local copies.

Choose the method that fits your goal

Method Best for What you need Main trade-off
Google Photos backup Viewing a library in Google Photos on both devices A Google account, internet access, and enough account storage Uploading can take time; download photos separately if you need local tablet files.
Apple iCloud Photos transfer Copying an existing iCloud Photos collection to Google Photos An eligible Apple account, two-factor authentication, a Google account, and enough Google storage Apple estimates three to seven days; some formats or features may not transfer.
Computer and USB Copying files through a computer rather than relying on a cloud library A Mac or Windows PC, suitable USB cables, and the ability to unlock and approve prompts on both devices It takes two transfer stages, and iCloud-optimized photos may need to be downloaded to the iPhone first.

Option 1: Back up the iPhone to Google Photos

This is the straightforward choice if you want to browse the same cloud library from the iPhone and Android tablet. Install or open Google Photos on the iPhone and sign in to the Google account you plan to use on the tablet. Turn on backup and keep the app available while it uploads. Google says upload time varies with connection, upload size, and other conditions, and advises iPhone and iPad users not to quit the app during backup. Check the app’s backup status and wait for it to report completion before relying on the library on the tablet: Google Photos backup status guidance.

On the Android tablet, open Google Photos and sign in to that same Google account. The backed-up library will be available there to view. This does not necessarily save every photo as a local file on the tablet; download individual items when you need offline files.

Download a photo to the Android tablet

  1. Open the photo or video in Google Photos on the tablet.
  2. Tap More, then tap Download. Google’s Android instructions note that this option may not appear if the item is already on the device: Download photos or videos to an Android device.

Option 2: Copy iCloud Photos to Google Photos

If the iPhone library is already in iCloud Photos, Apple provides a service to request a copy of the collection be transferred to Google Photos. You do not need to download the whole iCloud library to the iPhone first. The request is made through Apple’s Data and Privacy process; Apple’s instructions cover eligibility, starting the request, and what is included: Apple’s iCloud Photos copy-transfer instructions.

Check these requirements before requesting the transfer

  • iCloud Photos must be in use, two-factor authentication must be enabled, and you need a Google account.
  • The Google account must have enough available storage. Google account storage is shared across Photos, Drive, and Gmail; Google states that an account includes up to 15 GB, with more storage available for purchase. Check the current available space before starting: Google Photos storage information.
  • Apple says the transfer service is available to customers in more than 240 countries, but child accounts and Managed Apple Accounts are excluded. Advanced Data Protection for iCloud also prevents export.

What to expect from the copy

Apple estimates that a request takes three to seven days. It sends a copy to Google Photos and does not remove or change the photos in iCloud. Some content or features—including Smart Albums, Live Photos, and certain RAW files—may not be available in the destination. Photos still uploading or changed after the request begins may not be included. Check important items in Google Photos once the transfer finishes.

Option 3: Use a computer as a USB bridge

A computer can move the files in two stages: import them from the iPhone to a Mac or Windows PC, then copy them from the computer to the Android tablet. The exact menus and compatibility depend on the devices and computer; the official instructions describe this computer-assisted workflow, not a universal direct cable connection between an iPhone and every Android tablet.

Troubleshoot missing or incomplete photos

The library has not appeared in Google Photos

On the iPhone, check Google Photos’ backup status and allow the upload to finish. Google says timing depends on factors such as connection and upload size. On the tablet, confirm that Google Photos is signed in to the same Google account used for the backup.

The iCloud transfer is incomplete

Check that the request has finished and that the Google account had enough storage. Apple warns that insufficient destination storage can prevent all items from transferring. Some formats and features may also be excluded, as described above.

Photos appear in Google Photos but not in the tablet’s gallery

Seeing an item in Google Photos means it is available in the cloud; it does not guarantee a local tablet file. Open the item in Google Photos and use More > Download to save it on the device.

A downloaded photo has a different date

Google notes that the operating system may assign a new file timestamp based on when an item was downloaded. Check the item’s details if you need to inspect its available metadata.
