For October 2–4, 2026, start with East of Eden, Netflix’s adaptation of John Steinbeck’s novel starring Florence Pugh. If you want romance anime, the weekend also brings the weekly premieres of The Ramparts of Ice season 2 and Blue Box season 2. Those anime are not full-season drops, so think of them as weekend starts rather than complete binges.

1. East of Eden: the weekend’s drama pick
Zoe Kazan adapted Steinbeck’s novel for this limited series, which stars Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, and Mike Faist. Netflix describes a fiercely independent woman whose choices drive a rift between two brothers across two generations. The series is scheduled to arrive October 1, making it the most straightforward pick for a weekend viewing session.
Kazan has spoken about the personal resonance of adapting the book. In Netflix Tudum’s September 2, 2026 release-date feature, she said, “I really took that as my credo,” referring to Steinbeck’s description of East of Eden as “the story of my country and the story of me.”
#1 Best Overall
If the adaptation leaves you curious about the source, Steinbeck’s East of Eden is the novel behind the series; reading it is not a prerequisite for watching.
2. The Ramparts of Ice season 2: a weekly romance-anime return
Netflix schedules season 2 for October 1 PT / October 2 JST, and says episodes will arrive weekly. That makes it a good choice if you want to begin a continuing anime over the weekend, but not if you are looking for a whole new season to watch in one sitting. Netflix frames its October romance-anime lineup around slow-burn feelings and relationships.
Rank #2
3. Blue Box season 2: a Sunday premiere
Blue Box season 2 is scheduled for October 4, with new episodes released weekly. Netflix’s October slate describes Taiki and Chinatsu’s feelings developing amid complications involving friendship and competition. Its Sunday premiere makes it the latest-arriving pick of the three for this weekend.
