These 26 portfolio examples, selected by Colorlib for its September 29, 2026 roundup, span game design, programming, technical art, narrative, and independent development. Use them to see how people make their work and individual contributions understandable—not as a formula that guarantees a job. The examples below reflect Colorlib’s descriptions of the portfolios; they are not independent audits of each person’s current site.
26 game developer and game designer portfolio examples
Colorlib says it reviewed 152 web addresses before selecting 26 personal websites, rather than profile pages on ArtStation, itch.io, or LinkedIn. That is the roundup’s reported methodology, not an independently verified count. Its examples are most useful when considered by the kind of work they make easy to evaluate.
Design, levels, and player experience
- Jaikar Pothula: Colorlib describes UI/UX case studies organized around a problem, a decision, and an outcome, with supporting links to a Steam page, Figma source, and PDF. This structure connects a design rationale to evidence a reviewer can inspect.
- Michiel Werring: The roundup highlights level documentation, maps, separate routes, and shipped work. The example illustrates how a level portfolio can show the thinking behind a space as well as its final appearance.
- Hannah Nicklin: Her dated credits page reportedly lists studio, project, and exact role, alongside writing and talk links. That format helps make narrative-design experience legible.
- Josh Caratelli: The roundup says he identifies systems built on named games and makes his résumé and other work easy to find. Naming a contribution gives more context than a title-only credit.
Programming, systems, and tools
- Hugo Peters: Colorlib points to personal engine work, project tags, contribution lists, and team context—useful signals for a programmer showing technical depth beyond commercial credits.
- Liam O’Connell and Arnaud Vanderveken: The roundup notes role and engine or language details, downloadable code, and repository links. These examples make it easier to connect a claimed contribution with something inspectable.
- Efrem Torrisi: His separate tool and game entries reportedly include role, tools, team size, and year. For technical art, that context can clarify the pipeline work behind a project.
Finished games and development process
- Lucas Pope: The roundup describes a compact site linking games, development logs, tools, source code, browser-playable older projects, and a localization postmortem. It shows how finished work and process material can coexist without requiring an elaborate site.
- Dean Tate: Colorlib says his page foregrounds shipped credits and specifies role, contribution, studio, platform, tools, and engine. It cites work on Half-Life: Alyx and BioShock, with project pages linking levels to video. The useful lesson is the specificity of the credit and contribution details.
Early-career projects
- Yoann Pierkot: The roundup says his projects are labeled as released games or school projects, with duration and role. Clear labels help a reviewer understand the context without mistaking student work for a commercial release.
These examples are descriptions from Colorlib’s roundup, not confirmation that every linked page or item remains available today. Treat them as patterns to adapt to your own work, and verify current credits and links before relying on a portfolio reference.
What a game portfolio should show
A reviewer should be able to find relevant work quickly, understand what you personally contributed, and inspect evidence of the result. Epic Games advises applicants to make a portfolio link prominent and curate a small selection of polished work. Epic Games’ careers guidance also recommends documenting projects and sharing repositories or published applications where relevant.
#1 Best Overall
- Project and context: Name the game or prototype, its status, the team or school context, and the engine or tools used.
- Your contribution: State exactly what you made, designed, implemented, wrote, or maintained. Separate your work from the team’s overall result.
- Inspectable evidence: Include an appropriate playable build or short clip; programming work may include code or a repository, while design work may include maps, documents, wireframes, or an explanation of decisions.
- Current contact materials: Make your résumé easy to find and check that project links, builds, repositories, and media still load.
For a project with several contributors, a concise credit block can clarify role, team, platform, tools, and engine. A case study can instead walk through the problem, the decision you made, and the outcome. Choose the format that makes your own work easiest to understand.
What should a game designer portfolio include?
Show both the player-facing result and the decisions that shaped it. Epic Games distinguishes game, level, systems, UI, and UX design; a portfolio should match the evidence to the specialization rather than treating design as one interchangeable discipline.
Rank #2
- Level design: Pair a playable sequence or video with a map, blockout, goals, constraints, and notes on how the space supports play.
- Systems or game design: Explain the system, the player or production problem it addresses, and how its rules or tuning changed.
- UI/UX: Show wireframes or Figma work alongside the relevant in-game or prototype result. Explain the decision and its outcome.
- Narrative: Link writing samples and specify whether you wrote, designed, implemented, or managed the material. A project credit alone may not reveal which work was yours.
What should a game programmer or technical artist portfolio include?
Programming
Name the system you built, describe how it works, and identify the language, engine, or tools used. Link to code or a repository when it is appropriate and accessible, and provide a short demonstration so the result is clear without requiring someone to build the project first.

Describe the production problem, the tool or pipeline contribution you made, and the result. Include enough technical context to distinguish your work from the broader team effort; named tools and a clear role can make that distinction easier to follow.
How many projects should a game portfolio have?
There is no single established hiring standard in the cited guidance. Colorlib suggests three to six finished projects for a first-job portfolio when each has a clear role and something to watch or play. Indeed’s career guide, updated December 11, 2025, suggests one to three well-documented projects. These are different editorial rules of thumb, not measured hiring requirements. The shared principle is to select a small number of finished, relevant projects and explain them clearly, rather than adding unfinished work just to raise the count. Indeed’s game design portfolio guide provides its guidance.
Should you use itch.io or your own website?
They solve different problems. A personal website can organize case studies, contribution details, and a résumé; a game-hosting page can make a playable build easy to access. Use both when that makes the project easier to evaluate, rather than treating either as mandatory. Epic Games says applicants do not need to build a website from scratch and emphasizes quick access to strong work.

Keep previews lightweight: put a still image, short clip, or concise project summary near the top, then let interested reviewers open the larger video, build, code, or documentation. Adobe recommends checking portfolio functionality across screen sizes, devices, and browsers. Adobe’s portfolio guidance covers those checks. Colorlib’s platform counts describe only the 26 sites in its roundup; they do not establish market share or rank platforms.

How to build a portfolio with no shipped games
Use completed student, game-jam, prototype, or personal projects. Label the context honestly and explain what you contributed, what tools you used, and what someone can play or inspect. A polished, clearly scoped project can demonstrate relevant work without being presented as a commercial release. You do not need to imply that a school project shipped commercially to make its value clear.
