Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster says Star Wars: Galactic Racer asks more of players than the studio’s earlier racing games. In an interview with GamesRadar+, he pointed to multiple boost options, pressing more than one face button at a time, switching abilities, and making strategic and tactical decisions while travelling at very high speed. The game launched on October 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
What Webster actually said
In the GamesRadar+ interview, published October 8, 2026, Webster compared the new game with the racing games his team has made before. His words were:
“We are asking way more out of players in this game than I think we’ve ever done in a racing game with multiple boost things, pressing more than one face button at a time, switching up the abilities, and thinking strategically and tactically at the same time whilst traveling at 700 kilometers an hour and your eyes are on stalks.”

#1 Best Overall
- COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
- SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
- BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
- BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
- CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
The second remark is Webster’s own view of players. It is not a cited scientific finding, and the interview does not point to a study behind it. The first remark is a qualitative description of how much the game asks a player to track and do during a race. It is not a measured comparison with other games or with the wider audience.
The four demands he named
Webster’s quote names four things a player has to handle at once. The GamesRadar+ report describes each one, and the descriptions below come from that report rather than from hands-on testing.

Multiple boost options
The game gives players more than one boost to choose from, so a player has to decide which boost to use and when. The interview describes these as a source of decisions during a run, not as a single speed button.

Switching abilities

Strategic and tactical decisions at speed
Webster links all of this to planning. The player is expected to think about strategy and tactics while moving at the speed he cites, which he describes as 700 kilometres an hour, with the player’s attention fully focused on the track ahead.

How the game punishes collisions
GamesRadar+ also reports that contact with walls can be destructive, and that the campaign allows three vehicle destructions before a run ends. That makes collisions a second layer of risk on top of the boost and ability choices. The report does not say how much time or progress each destruction costs.
Is Galactic Racer a Burnout game?
No source in this coverage calls Star Wars: Galactic Racer a Burnout sequel. The link is studio history. GamesRadar+ reports that Fuse Games was formed by people with Criterion Games experience, and it ties the new game to the lineage of Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge.

The headline’s “25 years after Burnout” is a time reference, and the interview does not establish which Burnout release it counts from. If you need that number, check the release year of the specific Burnout title against its own official record rather than deriving it from the interview.
A fair comparison of the two games would look at the shared basis: team background, speed, collision risk, and race mechanics. Those are the points the interview supports. Any claim beyond studio heritage, such as shared design or a direct series connection, is not established by the sources here.

The launch details come from the publisher and the official Star Wars site, and the interview adds the gameplay context. The table shows what each source confirms.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Source | Date | What it confirms |
|---|---|---|
| StarWars.com (official game information) | April 30, 2026 | Worldwide launch on October 6, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC; identifies Webster as Fuse Games co-founder |
| Secret Mode (publisher announcement) | April 30, 2026 | Same launch date and platforms; Fuse Games named as developer and Secret Mode as publisher |
| GamesRadar+ interview by Scott McCrae | October 8, 2026 | Webster’s quotations; the four gameplay demands; wall contact can be destructive; three vehicle destructions permitted before a run ends; Criterion background of the team |
Because the launch date of October 6, 2026 has passed, the game should be described as released, not upcoming. The sources available here do not say whether a special controller is needed or supported, so do not assume one is required.
What the sources do not establish
- No statistic or published study on cognitive load or on racing-game difficulty is cited in these sources. Webster’s cognitive-load point is his opinion.
- No source compares the game’s difficulty with other racing games in measured terms.
- The sources do not state how many players find the game hard, or how the difficulty is tuned for different skill levels.
- The sources do not describe the game as a direct sequel to any Burnout title.
What the evidence supports is narrower: the CEO of the developer says the game asks more of players than its earlier racing games, names the specific demands behind that claim, and places the team in Criterion’s lineage.
