These 21 developer and software engineer portfolios offer different ways to present projects, explain technical contributions, and make a résumé or contact route easy to find. The list is an inspiration gallery based on Colorlib’s September 29, 2026 roundup—not an independently tested ranking or evidence that a particular design improves hiring outcomes. Use the examples to find an approach that suits your work, then judge a portfolio by how clearly it lets visitors inspect that work.
21 developer portfolio websites to explore
Colorlib’s roundup identifies the platforms and design features below. Those platform labels and descriptions are the roundup’s reporting, not independent technical audits; sites and their features may change.

What makes a software engineer portfolio useful?
A portfolio is most useful when it helps someone answer four questions quickly: What did you build? What part did you own? Where can I inspect or try it? How can I reach you or read your résumé?
- Make the work inspectable. Link to a live project when it is available and appropriate. For code-oriented work, link to the relevant repository or source rather than relying only on a screenshot. Some work cannot be shared publicly; explain the project at a level that respects confidentiality.
- Describe your contribution. For team projects, distinguish your work from the team’s work. Name your responsibilities, decisions, and relevant technical scope. Colorlib’s roundup points to Leland Jansen’s Spoor case study as an example of a project write-up that states the contributor’s role.
- Match evidence to the work. A visual product may benefit from screenshots or a demo. Backend, infrastructure, and other less-visible work may need a concise explanation of the problem and implementation, plus useful code links.
- Keep résumé and contact routes easy to find. Several examples surface a CV or résumé, email address, or contact action directly in the navigation or page content.
Colorlib reports that the Spoor case study associated with Leland Jansen cites a 32% reduction in Outlook boot time. That is a result attributed to an individual case study and repeated in the roundup, not an independently verified benchmark or a general performance expectation.

How to choose an implementation approach
The examples use a range of frameworks and hosted builders, but the roundup does not establish that one platform is best. Choose based on the work you want to show and the amount of implementation and upkeep you want to own.
| Approach | What to weigh | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Custom or repository-based site | Code control, deployment workflow, customization, and ongoing maintenance. | You want to demonstrate implementation choices or tailor the site closely to your needs. |
| Hosted visual builder | Setup effort, design flexibility, customization limits, and the technical upkeep you want to handle. | You want to focus more on presenting work than maintaining a custom site. |
GitHub describes Pages as static hosting for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript from a repository, optionally with a build process. Its documentation says: “You can use GitHub Pages to host a website about yourself, your organization, or your project directly from a repository on GitHub.” Pages supports personal, organization, and project sites and custom domains, subject to plan and repository eligibility conditions; check the current documentation before setting up a site: GitHub Pages documentation.

A practical portfolio review checklist
- Can a visitor identify your role and the type of work you do from the opening section?
- Does each featured project explain its purpose, your contribution, and the result or current status?
- Can visitors open a working demo, inspect relevant source, or understand why neither is available?
- Are screenshots, videos, or interactive effects supporting the work rather than obscuring it?
- Can a visitor reach your résumé or CV and a contact method without hunting through the site?
- Do links work, and does the page remain understandable on a small screen?
What this list can—and cannot—tell you
The examples and design descriptions come from Colorlib’s roundup, dated September 29, 2026. It provides no scoring rubric, independent usability tests, traffic data, or hiring-outcome evidence, so the order should not be read as a measured ranking. Treat the gallery as a source of ideas: borrow the presentation pattern that helps a visitor understand your work, not a design merely because it appears on this list.
