The 2026 Volvo EX30 makes a strong first impression, but its minimalist, screen-centered cabin may be the flaw that’s hard to ignore. A surfaced review excerpt describes the SUV as visually appealing and enjoyable to drive while criticizing how its controls are handled; the review itself was not independently accessible, so that judgment should be treated as a reported opinion, not a verified road-test finding.
What the “pimple on a first date” line means
The phrase is a jokey way to describe something that initially looks promising but has one conspicuous drawback. In this case, the reported criticism is the EX30’s reliance on a central touchscreen for information and vehicle controls. Whether that is a deal-breaker depends on how easily a driver can find common functions and monitor essential information while driving.
The criticism is subjective. Volvo’s equipment list establishes the screen’s presence and size, but that alone does not establish that the layout is confusing or unsafe. A test drive is the best way to decide whether the interface works for you.

How to judge the screen-centered cabin
The dealer page says driver information and vehicle controls are presented through the centre display, while Volvo lists a range of driver-support features, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot information, lane keeping, and collision mitigation. The important question is not simply how large the display is, but whether the interface makes routine tasks straightforward.
- Can you locate common settings quickly without hunting through menus?
- Is the information you need while driving easy to see?
- Can you make frequent adjustments without navigating several screen layers?
Try the controls you expect to use before deciding. The reported review criticism is a prompt to inspect the interface, not proof that every driver will find it difficult.

What to know about charging
Volvo Car Australia lists an 11 kW onboard charger and a mobile home charging cable for the selected configuration. Central Coast Automotive says the EX30 can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 26.5 minutes at a 175 kW DC fast-charging station under optimal conditions. That is a dealer-page estimate, not an independent test result or a guarantee of typical charging time; the page notes that actual times vary.
For home charging, check that a wallbox is compatible with the vehicle and connector in your market and that your electrical installation can support it. The cited dealer page describes a stationary wallbox as a home-charging option, but does not establish a specific charger recommendation.

Space figures need a consistent source
Volvo’s Australian configuration gives 400 litres of luggage capacity with the second row in place and 1,000 litres with the seats folded, plus 7 litres of front cargo space. Central Coast Automotive separately describes a 318-litre boot. These figures may reflect different model years, markets, or measurement bases, so they should not be treated as interchangeable.

The EX30 may appeal if you value its reported styling and driving enjoyment and are comfortable with a touchscreen-led cabin. If you prefer frequently used controls to be immediately accessible without navigating a display, make that the focus of your test drive. The published specifications above can help identify the configuration being discussed, but they do not settle the usability question.
