Several MacBooks once expected as 2026 launches are already available: Apple introduced the M5 MacBook Air, MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max, and MacBook Neo in March. The remaining models are unconfirmed. September reporting points to a base 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro in October or early November, while a separate high-end OLED-and-touch redesign could arrive between late 2026 and early 2027. Apple has not announced either future model or confirmed its specifications or release date.
Which MacBooks have been released in 2026?
Apple’s confirmed 2026 releases include the M5 MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max, and MacBook Neo. The dates and details below distinguish Apple announcements and environmental reports from predictions about future products.
MacBook Air with M5
Apple announced 13-inch and 15-inch M5 MacBook Air models on March 3, 2026. Pre-orders opened March 4, with availability beginning March 11. Apple listed U.S. starting prices of $1,099 for the 13-inch model and $1,299 for the 15-inch model, before education pricing. These are Apple’s published prices for the U.S.; check Apple for current pricing and availability.

MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max
Apple’s product environmental report gives March 3, 2026, as the introduction date for the MacBook Pro with M5 Pro or M5 Max, in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations. The report covers several chip, GPU, memory, and storage combinations; it is not a complete consumer buying guide. Consult Apple’s product information for the full configuration matrix rather than inferring that every reported figure applies to every model.

In that report, Apple states that these models contain 45% recycled content and that supplier renewable-energy projects provided 50% of manufacturing electricity. For specified 16-inch configurations, Apple reports modeled footprints of 280 kg CO₂e for one listed M5 Pro configuration and 324 kg CO₂e for one listed M5 Max configuration. These figures describe the particular configurations in Apple’s report, not every MacBook Pro. Apple’s MacBook Pro environmental report gives the underlying details.
MacBook Neo
Apple’s environmental report dates MacBook Neo’s introduction to March 4, 2026, and identifies 256GB and 512GB configurations. Apple reports 60% recycled content and says supplier renewable-energy projects provided 45% of manufacturing electricity. Those are environmental-report figures; they do not establish a full consumer specification sheet. See Apple’s MacBook Neo environmental report for its published scope.

What MacBooks are still rumored for 2026?
As of October 4, 2026, the remaining 2026 possibilities are based on reporting, not Apple launch announcements. The reported base M6 MacBook Pro and the rumored OLED/touch redesign are separate products; their chips and timing should not be blended into one forecast.
Base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6
A September 30 report says Apple may release a base 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 in fall 2026, likely October or early November. The report says Apple is skipping M6 Pro and M6 Max, with M7 Pro and M7 Max expected in 2027. A September 10 roundup also included a base 14-inch M6 Pro among rumored October products. These are roadmap reports, not Apple confirmations: there is no confirmed launch date, price, or complete specification sheet. See 9to5Mac’s September 30 schedule report and its September 10 October roundup.

High-end OLED and touchscreen MacBook Pro redesign
Reports describe a separate high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro redesign with OLED displays and touch support. A July account of Bloomberg reporting put its possible window between the end of 2026 and early 2027, and said it would use M5 Pro and M5 Max. Earlier January coverage instead forecast M6 Pro and M6 Max for a late-2026 redesign, while acknowledging a possible 2027 delay. The chip predictions conflict, and none of these details is an Apple-confirmed specification. The launch could slip into 2027.
For the changing forecasts, see the July roadmap report and the January forecast. September coverage treats the redesign separately from the base M6 model: the October roundup.

When might the next MacBook Air arrive?
Recent schedule reporting places the next Air update in early 2027, with February through April discussed as a possible window and March described by the report’s author as a historical guess. The same report expects few changes beyond a chip update, with the M5 design carrying forward. OLED MacBook Air reporting points to no sooner than 2028. These are forecasts, not commitments or confirmed specifications. See the September schedule report and the July roadmap recap.
How did the 2026 MacBook predictions change?
A January 26 forecast anticipated four 2026 launches: a lower-cost MacBook, M5 Air, M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, and redesigned OLED/touch Pro. It explicitly presented these as predictions, not Apple announcements. By October, the M5 Air, M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, and Neo had been introduced, and newer schedule reporting placed the next Air in early 2027. The January forecast is a dated snapshot, not a reliable description of what remains to come. See the January forecast, alongside Apple’s reports on the M5 Air, M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro, and MacBook Neo.
Should you buy a MacBook now or wait?
Base the decision on the computer you need today, not on unannounced features. The M5 Air is a concrete option if your priorities are a lighter everyday laptop, a choice of 13-inch or 15-inch screen, and the storage and ports Apple lists. The smaller model prioritizes portability; the larger model gives you more screen area. Choose storage against your likely long-term needs, since Apple lists 512GB as standard and configurations up to 4TB.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor work that demands a Pro model, compare your actual sustained-performance needs and required configuration against Apple’s confirmed M5 Pro and M5 Max options. Do not pay a premium today on the assumption that OLED or touch is guaranteed on a particular date, and do not delay a necessary purchase solely for a rumored launch. If you can comfortably wait, check Apple’s announcements again near the reported windows: rumor schedules can change, and Apple has not confirmed the future models described here.
