The 2026 Demacia Cup Global Invitational has 12 teams, four Swiss rounds and an eight-team single-elimination knockout. Swiss matches are best-of-one in Round 1 and best-of-three from Round 2 onward; every knockout match is best-of-five. These rules apply to the 2026 international invitational, not automatically to other Demacia Cup editions.
How the 2026 Demacia Cup is structured
The 2026 event is scheduled for October 3–17, 2026. Its 12 teams begin online in a Swiss stage. The eight teams that qualify then play a knockout bracket on stage in Beijing. The event page published by participant Natus Vincere describes this format; it does not establish the exact team roster.

Swiss is not a conventional one-loss-elimination bracket. Teams continue through the four-round stage according to their records, and the path to the knockout is reaching two wins. The event page specifies that teams are eliminated after three losses, with a special condition for the teams that enter the 0–2 round-robin group: they are eliminated if they fail to finish first in that group.

Match lengths
- Round 1: best-of-one, so the winner of one game wins the match.
- Round 2 onward: best-of-three, so a team must win two games. These matches use Fearless Draft.
The page says the 0–2 group uses round robin rather than knockout matches. It does not provide a detailed definition of Fearless Draft, so this explainer does not infer additional champion-selection rules.
Round 1 side selection
For Game 1, the higher regional seed chooses sides. If the teams have equal seeds, the team drawn first chooses.

How the eight-team knockout works
The eight Swiss qualifiers enter a single-elimination bracket. Each match is best-of-five using Fearless Draft: the first team to win three games advances, while the loser is out.

- Quarterfinals: the team with the better Swiss record chooses sides for Game 1. If records are equal, the team drawn first chooses.
- Semifinals and final: Game 1 side selection is determined by coin flip.

Why the 2025 Demacia Cup format was different
The 2025 Demacia Cup was a domestic Chinese post-season tournament with two group stages before its knockout. It should not be used as a template for the 2026 Global Invitational.

In 2025, Stage 1 included six LPL teams that had not played in Split 3 playoffs and two streamer teams. The top two from each group advanced. Stage 2 added six LPL teams that had played in Split 3 playoffs but had not qualified for the Worlds knockout stage; the two Stage 1 qualifiers joined them. The top three in each Stage 2 group advanced, alongside two LPL teams that entered the knockout directly. The eight-team bracket was single-elimination best-of-five. These are historical details reported by Liquipedia’s 2025 Demacia Cup event page, not 2026 rules.
