The 2024 CORSAIR RM850x is an 850W, fully modular ATX 3.1 power supply with a native 12V-2×6 GPU cable, PCIe 5.1 support, and a ten-year manufacturer warranty. It is a strong candidate for a build that needs those features, but confirm the exact generation and regional SKU before buying: older products and listings also use the RM850x name.

Which RM850x does this review cover?

This article covers the refreshed 2024 generation. CORSAIR’s current worldwide product page identifies it as SKU CP-9020270-WW and lists ATX 3.1 compliance, PCIe 5.1 support, and a native 12V-2×6 cable. Check the product code and the included-cable list on the regional listing you plan to buy; CORSAIR cautions that bundle details can vary. CORSAIR’s product specifications describe the current model, while its September 2024 announcement identifies the refreshed RMx family.

When comparing marketplace listings, look for explicit ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 support, the native 12V-2×6 lead, and a matching regional SKU—not just “RM850x.”

CORSAIR also specifies Japanese electrolytic capacitors rated for 105°C and output rated at 50°C ambient. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee of how long any particular unit will last. CORSAIR lists a 100,000-hour MTBF, which is a reliability rating rather than a predicted service life for an individual PSU.

Connector inventory

CORSAIR’s listed cable set includes one 24-pin ATX cable, two EPS 4+4 cables, one 12V-2×6 cable, three PCIe 6+2 cables, eight SATA connectors, and three PATA connectors. Confirm the regional product listing’s exact bundle before relying on that inventory.

Will 850W power your CPU and GPU?

It may, but the wattage label alone cannot establish suitability for every build. Compare the PSU’s 850W continuous output with the CPU and GPU manufacturers’ recommendations, and account for the rest of the system and the intended workloads. A connector match does not mean that a particular system’s power demand is within budget.

The 2024 RM850x includes a native 12V-2×6 cable for compatible graphics cards, alongside three PCIe 6+2 connectors. That makes it equipped for those connection types; it does not by itself determine whether 850W is sufficient for a specific GPU-and-CPU combination.

How does it perform in independent reviews?

Hardware Busters’ review, published September 14, 2024 and updated September 28, 2026, lists Cybenetics Gold efficiency at 87–89% on 115V and 89–91% on 230V, and Cybenetics A noise at 20–25 dB(A). These are certification ratings, not a promise that every system will see the same efficiency or sound level. Its review includes separate testing of regulation, ripple, transient response, hold-up time, efficiency, protection, and noise. Read Hardware Busters’ RM850x review.

  • Modern Standby Compatible: Extremely fast wake-from-sleep times and better low-load efficiency.

TechPorn reviewed a 2024 sample supplied by CORSAIR. It measured 90.9% efficiency at 230V, reported zero-RPM operation up to roughly 50% load, and found noise at or below 32 dBA through most of its tested load range, along with tight voltage regulation and low ripple/noise. Those are that publication’s results under its test conditions, not universal operating guarantees. Read TechPorn’s review.

The reviews are positive, but their reported numbers come from distinct test and certification contexts. They should not be collapsed into one expected efficiency or noise result for every PC.

Will it fit your case, and are the cables compatible?

At 160 × 150 × 86 mm, the PSU is 160 mm long. Check the case’s PSU clearance and leave room to route and bend the modular cables, particularly if a drive cage or other hardware sits near the PSU. A nominal fit does not guarantee easy cable routing.

The RM850x uses CORSAIR Type 4 cables. Modular PSU cables are not universally interchangeable: do not assume that a cable from another PSU fits electrically just because its plug appears to fit. For replacement or sleeved cables, verify compatibility with this exact PSU and cable set. CORSAIR says its Premium Individually Sleeved Type 4 PSU cables are sold separately.

Is the CORSAIR RM850x worth buying?

It is a good fit to consider if your build calls for 850W, benefits from a native 12V-2×6 connection, and your case has room for a 160mm-long PSU plus its cables. Its fully modular design, current standards support, positive independent-review findings, and ten-year warranty are useful strengths.

Whether it is worth the price depends on the current local offer and your build. Compare other 850W supplies on capacity, GPU connector, dimensions, efficiency and noise evidence, included connectors, warranty terms, and local price. Hardware Busters’ $150-excluding-VAT figure is its stated MSRP, not a current price comparison or proof that the RM850x is the best-value option. CORSAIR’s warranty is ten years, but coverage terms vary by region; check the local terms before purchase.
