Choose 1Password if you want a paid, consumer-focused plan for yourself or a household with shared vaults. Consider Zoho Vault if you want a free personal tier or need business features such as IP restrictions, audit reports, or directory authentication. Neither vendor’s published product descriptions establish an independent security winner; compare the controls and recovery options you actually need.

How the personal and family plans compare

1Password: a published individual and family option

On its U.S. pricing page, 1Password lists Individual at US$2.99 per month and Families at US$4.49 per month with annual billing during a first-year promotion. The listed regular prices are US$3.99 and US$5.99 per month, respectively. The promotional rates apply to the first year, so use the regular rate when estimating renewal cost. 1Password pricing

The Families plan includes five seats and unlimited shared vaults. That setup suits households that want to share selected credentials while keeping other items private. 1Password also describes temporary, expiring share links; check the available recipient controls when deciding whether a link is suitable for a particular item. 1Password pricing 1Password security

Zoho Vault: a free personal tier

Zoho advertises a forever-free edition for personal password management, alongside a trial of paid business features. Its comparison lists unlimited password storage and offline access across editions; sharing and advanced team functions depend on the tier. This makes the free option worth considering if you need personal storage rather than a family bundle with multiple shared-vault controls. Zoho Vault pricing Zoho Vault

Business pricing and controls

Zoho’s official USD plan-comparison PDF lists per-user prices for its paid business editions. The annual figures are monthly equivalents billed annually; the alternative figures are monthly billing rates.

Zoho Vault edition Annual billing, per user Monthly billing, per user Controls shown in the published comparison
Standard US$0.90/month US$1/month Password sharing, role-based permissions, reports, and IP restrictions
Professional US$3.60/month US$4/month Includes sharing folders and breached-password alerts; geolocation restrictions and break-glass accounts are also shown
Enterprise US$6.30/month US$7/month Includes AD/LDAP, Azure AD, SAML 2.0 authentication, and Okta group sync

These are figures in Zoho’s USD PDF price schedule, not a guarantee of the amount shown at checkout. The live comparison page’s dynamic price fields were not readable in the captured page, so confirm the current rate, billing terms, and any regional differences directly with Zoho before committing. The three Zoho figures are per user; 1Password’s prices above are consumer-plan prices, so the two schedules are not equivalent bundles. Zoho Vault pricing

Enterprise is the listed tier for the named directory and SAML options. Confirm the identity provider and provisioning details that matter to your organization before purchasing. What the published security descriptions do—and do not—show

1Password describes protection using an account password together with a Secret Key, and says its sharing model uses public-key cryptography. These are the vendor’s explanations of its design, not independent comparative test results. 1Password security

Zoho’s plan comparison lists AES-256 encryption across its editions and passwordless vault-unlock options including Zoho OneAuth, Windows Hello, Touch ID, passkeys, and YubiKey. It also places password sharing and role-based permissions in paid editions, with sharing folders and breached-password alerts in Professional and Enterprise, and cloud-app single sign-on and SAML 2.0 in Enterprise. These published descriptions do not establish that the two products use identical architectures or allow a security ranking by themselves. Zoho Vault plan comparison

Check sharing, recovery, and data location before switching

Plan features are only part of the decision. Before moving passwords or inviting family members or coworkers, make sure the service’s day-to-day workflow and recovery arrangements fit your situation.

  • Sharing: Decide which items should stay private and which should go into a shared vault or folder. Check who can access shared items and whether temporary links provide the recipient controls you need.
  • Recovery: Understand how you would regain access if you forget a password, lose a device, or an administrator leaves. Do not assume the recovery process is interchangeable between services.
  • Devices and browsers: Confirm the apps, browser extensions, and unlock methods you rely on are available for your devices before importing a large vault.
  • Business identity: Verify the precise identity provider, group synchronization, and authentication method required by your organization, and ensure they are included in the tier you plan to buy.
  • Data location: Zoho says signup location determines the initially assigned data center and that users can change data-center location. For jurisdiction-specific obligations, check Zoho’s current terms and confirm the applicable location and requirements with the vendor. Zoho Vault

Recommendation

For an individual who wants a free starting point, try Zoho Vault’s free edition and verify that its sharing and device workflow meet your needs. For a household that wants five seats and shared vaults under a published consumer plan, start with 1Password Families and account for the post-promotion renewal price. For a business, shortlist Zoho Vault when its per-user tiers and listed administrative or identity controls match your requirements; confirm current checkout pricing and feature availability before selecting a plan.
