For most buyers choosing among these tiers, 360Hz is the more balanced target: it is already exceptionally fast and can be paired with QHD and an OLED panel. Consider 500Hz if competitive games are your priority and your PC can sustain very high frame rates. Native 1,000Hz is a specialist choice for players pursuing the smallest possible refresh intervals who accept a 25-inch Full HD screen, a high announced price, and the challenge of producing enough frames to use it.

What do 360Hz, 500Hz, and 1,000Hz actually mean?

Refresh rate is how many times per second a monitor refreshes its image. Frame rate is how many frames the game and computer send. A 1,000Hz monitor does not create 1,000 distinct game frames per second: the game, CPU and GPU, connection bandwidth, monitor mode, and settings all affect whether that rate can be used. RTINGS explains the distinction and the role of connection and display limits in its refresh-rate guide.

The time between refreshes is the reciprocal of the refresh rate. That interval is useful for comparing tiers, but it is not total monitor input lag or end-to-end system latency.

Refresh rate Time between refreshes What the interval tells you
360Hz 2.78ms Already a very short interval; a plausible high-end balance.
500Hz 2.00ms 0.78ms shorter per interval than 360Hz.
1,000Hz 1.00ms 1ms shorter than 500Hz, but requires an exceptionally high source frame rate to be fully used.

RTINGS lists 2.78ms for 360Hz; the 500Hz and 1,000Hz intervals are arithmetic calculations of 1,000 milliseconds divided by the refresh rate. RTINGS notes that a monitor’s minimum input lag can be related to frame time, but that is not the same as measured monitor latency or whole-system latency. See its refresh-rate explanation and response-time and motion-blur guide.

Does a higher refresh rate make a monitor clearer or more responsive?

Higher refresh rates can make motion look smoother and can reduce the wait for a display refresh, but the improvement diminishes as the rate rises. RTINGS observes that the difference between 500Hz and 700Hz is harder to distinguish than the jump from 60Hz to 240Hz; there is no single rate at which every viewer stops noticing changes.

Refresh rate alone does not determine motion clarity. Pixel response time affects how quickly pixels transition, and a high-refresh screen with slow transitions can still show blur. Likewise, a refresh-rate figure is not a complete input-lag measurement. Compare measured response and latency results for the particular monitor rather than treating its hertz rating as a guarantee. RTINGS discusses these separate factors in its monitor response-time guide.

How do the three tiers compare in actual monitors?

The example models differ not just in refresh rate but in resolution, panel type, size, and whether the top rate is native or overclocked. The table uses manufacturer-published specifications; Samsung’s cited product page is localized for Chile and does not establish price or availability in other markets.

Tier and model Published specifications Best fit to consider
1,000Hz: LG UltraGear 25G590B-B 25-inch Full HD (1920×1080), IPS, native 1,000Hz. LG announced U.S. availability at $999.99 on August 24, 2026. Competitive players seeking the highest refresh tier who can drive extremely high frame rates and accept Full HD and the announced price.
500Hz: Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 G60SF 27-inch QHD (2560×1440) OLED, up to 500Hz, rated 0.03ms GTG. Buyers seeking 500Hz alongside QHD and OLED; the 0.03ms figure is Samsung’s manufacturer rating, not an independent measurement.
360Hz: Alienware AW2725DF QHD at 360Hz on QD-OLED, as listed in Dell’s September 2026 gaming-monitor guide. Buyers who want a very high rate with QHD and an OLED panel.
500Hz alternate: Alienware AW2524HF 24.5-inch Fast IPS; Dell’s guide identifies 500Hz as overclocked. A reminder that a 500Hz headline can refer to a different panel and an overclocked mode rather than the Samsung’s QHD OLED implementation.

LG’s $999.99 figure is a U.S. manufacturer-announced price from August 24, 2026, not a guaranteed current street price. Samsung’s cited specifications page does not establish a comparable market price, and Dell’s guide does not provide a stable cross-market price comparison. Check local stock, current pricing, and the exact model suffix before buying. Product specifications are available from LG, Samsung, and Dell.

27" 360Hz QHD Fast IPS Gaming Monitor,0.5ms FreeSync+G-Sync,HDR400,VESA
  • Every millisecond decides victory or defeat. With a blistering 360Hz refresh rate and 0.5ms (GtG) Fast IPS panel, this 27" monitor delivers buttery‑smooth motion with virtually zero ghosting or blur. Track enemies across the screen, react instantly, and never miss a frame – whether you're in a clutch round or a high‑speed race.
  • High refresh rate monitors often force you to choose between speed and image quality. Not this one. QHD (2560×1440) resolution paired with Fast IPS technology gives you stunning detail and consistent colors from any 178° viewing angle. With 120% sRGB, 90% DCI-P3, and Delta E<2 factory calibration, colors are vivid and true-to-life–perfect for competitive gaming and creative work.
  • Dark corners hide enemies; washed‑out highlights ruin immersion.HDR400 delivers brighter highlights and deeper shadows, so you can spot threats hiding in the dark without losing detail in bright explosions. Combined with 400 nits brightness and 1000:1 contrast, every scene looks balanced and realistic.
  • Screen tearing, stuttering, and motion blur are game-killers. This monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible for tear-free, lag-free gameplay on any GPU. Plus, ELMB SYNC (Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync) works simultaneously with variable refresh rate – eliminating both ghosting and tearing in one go. Smoothness you can see and feel.
  • Neck pain and awkward angles shouldn't be part of your setup. Adjust height (0–3.94in), tilt (-5°~+15°), swivel (±45°), and pivot 90° for portrait mode – ideal for coding, streaming, or vertical shooters. The sturdy stand keeps the monitor rock-solid, and VESA 100×100mm mounting lets you go wall‑mounted or arm‑mounted for a clutter‑free desk.

Which refresh rate should you buy?

Choose 360Hz for a fast all-around gaming display

360Hz is a strong high-end option if your PC can run your games at high frame rates and you also care about resolution and panel quality. The Alienware AW2725DF example combines QHD, QD-OLED, and 360Hz. This is a practical balance, not a scientifically established optimum: the available guidance supports diminishing returns at higher rates, not one ideal rate for every player.

Consider 500Hz for competitive games and a very fast PC

500Hz is worth considering if competitive play is the priority, your system can sustain frame rates well above ordinary high-refresh targets, and the specific monitor’s resolution, panel, ports, and price suit you. The Samsung G60SF pairs 500Hz with QHD OLED, while Dell’s AW2524HF is a smaller Fast IPS model with 500Hz overclocked. Verify which mode is native or overclocked on the exact model you plan to buy.

Consider 1,000Hz only for a specialized use case

LG’s UltraGear 25G590B-B is a purchasable U.S. example of native 1,000Hz, announced at $999.99 in August 2026. It is a 25-inch Full HD IPS monitor, so that refresh rate comes with a clear resolution trade-off compared with the cited QHD examples. PC Gamer’s review reports that motion-clarity gains continue beyond 500Hz under its test conditions, but says 1,000 fps is difficult to reach in games and the benefits are marginal for most users. That is the review’s assessment, not a universal performance guarantee or a head-to-head test of all three named models.

Alienware AW2725DF OLED Gaming Monitor - 26.7-inch Quantom-Dot WQHD (2560x1440) 360Hz 0.03Ms Display, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, HDMI/DP/USB 3.2 Gen1, Height/Tilt/Swivel/Pivot Adjustability - Black
  • QD-OLED technology enables stunningly rich color and clarity, while QHD resolution (2560x1440) provides high level of detail.
  • 360Hz refresh rate translates to superb motion clarity, empowering players to see and react to in-game situations at high speed.
  • 0.03 ms gray-to-gray minimum response time** virtually eliminates blurring and ghosting and keeps latency to an absolute minimum.
  • Infinite contrast ratio and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 make for deep blacks and stunning brights, all in the same scene.
  • Excellent color performance with DCI-P3 99.3% color coverage and Delta E<2 accuracy for true-to-life visuals.
  • Sustainable frame rate: Check the frame rates your CPU and GPU can maintain in the games you actually play, not only a peak figure or the monitor’s maximum refresh rate.
  • Resolution and pixel density: Decide whether the performance trade-off of Full HD is acceptable compared with QHD or a higher resolution.
  • Panel and pixel response: Compare panel type and measured pixel transitions; a high rate does not by itself ensure clear motion.
  • Input lag and adaptive sync: Look for real latency testing and confirm adaptive-sync support meets your needs.
  • Connection and mode: Check that the ports, cable, graphics output, monitor mode, and settings support the rate you want.
  • Native versus overclocked refresh: Confirm whether the advertised maximum requires an overclocked mode.
  • Price and broader use: Compare current local prices and consider desk space and non-esports use alongside competitive performance.

There is no cited head-to-head laboratory test of the four models here, so their manufacturer specifications and the general refresh-rate guidance should not be mistaken for a controlled comparison of their real-world latency or motion clarity. Dell’s vendor perspective is in its gaming monitor guide; independent explanatory guidance is available from RTINGS on refresh rate and RTINGS on response time.
