A 10,000mAh phone battery holds twice the rated charge of a 5,000mAh battery at the same voltage, but it does not guarantee twice the everyday battery life. Runtime also depends on the phone’s power use, settings, signal and the activity being measured. To compare phones, look at model-specific battery tests alongside handset size, weight, cost and charging needs—not capacity alone.
Does a 10,000mAh phone battery last twice as long?
Not necessarily. The mAh figure measures electric charge capacity, not how many hours a phone will run. If two batteries have the same voltage, 10,000mAh represents twice the charge capacity of 5,000mAh. But phones can consume energy at different rates, so the larger-capacity phone may not deliver twice the runtime.
Apple says, “Battery life and charge cycles vary by use and settings.” Its battery tests use specific iPhone models, and Apple identifies factors such as network, location, signal strength, configuration and usage. Apple’s iPhone Battery Test Information is a useful reminder that a capacity figure cannot predict a universal number of hours.

For an energy comparison, voltage matters too. Watt-hours (Wh) account for both voltage and charge capacity: Wh = volts × amp-hours. The FAA illustrates this with a 12V, 8Ah battery rated at 96Wh. So even when comparing two mAh figures, confirm that the battery voltages are comparable before treating one as double the other in energy.

Phone makers do not always publish battery capacity in the same place as their runtime figures, and those runtime figures may describe different activities. Use the specifications for the exact models you are considering rather than turning mAh directly into hours.
What real-world phone examples show
Capacity figures and playback claims are model-specific, not universal benchmarks. Google’s regulatory guides list a 4,707mAh battery for the Pixel 11 Pro and a 5,000mAh battery for the Pixel 11 Pro XL. These figures establish the capacities for those particular models; they do not establish how either would compare in runtime with a 10,000mAh phone. Apple lists up to 26 hours of video playback and up to 20 hours of streamed video playback for the iPhone 15 Plus. Those are separate, model-specific categories, not estimates for every phone with a similar battery capacity. Compare like with like: video playback against video playback, or independent tests using comparable activities and conditions. Apple’s iPhone 15 Plus technical specifications detail those figures.

What to compare when choosing between phones
A bigger battery can be useful, but capacity by itself does not show whether a phone is the better choice. Compare the actual devices across these factors:

- Battery test results: Prefer independent tests or manufacturer figures for equivalent activities and conditions. Treat video playback and streamed video as distinct categories.
- Size and weight: Check the dimensions and weight of each handset. A larger internal battery may affect the design, but the amount varies by device; there is no fixed size or weight penalty established for every 10,000mAh phone.
- Price: Compare the price of the phones you would actually buy rather than assuming battery capacity determines value.
- Charging: Check charging speed, supported standards and charger compatibility. A large battery may take longer to fill, but the outcome depends on the phone and its charging system.
- Your routine: If you only need extra power on occasional long days, a separate power bank may be more practical than carrying a larger handset every day.
Could a power bank replace a larger phone battery?
For occasional extra runtime, a USB-C power bank lets you carry additional capacity separately from the phone. Anker lists its Nano Power Bank 10K as 10,000mAh and 36Wh. That capacity does not mean the power bank will deliver 10,000mAh to a phone: output voltage and conversion losses affect how much energy reaches the device. A fixed number of phone recharges cannot be inferred from the mAh label alone. Anker’s Nano Power Bank 10K support information gives its stated capacity and energy rating.
When comparing power banks, check the stated Wh, USB-C output and charging speed, compatibility with your devices, and the bank’s size and weight. A separate bank adds another item to carry and charge, but lets you choose when you need the extra capacity.

What are the U.S. airline rules for carrying a power bank?
For U.S. passenger air travel, FAA guidance allows lithium-ion spare batteries, including power banks, up to 100Wh each. Batteries rated from 101Wh to 160Wh require airline approval, and passengers are limited to two in that range. Airlines may impose stricter rules, so check your carrier’s current policy before flying. The FAA’s PackSafe guidance explains the limits and approval requirement.
