The 2025 SlashGear roundup names nine phones—not ten—and its top choices split across zoom, portraits, video and color rather than identifying one camera that wins every job. Its evaluations are based on the author’s reported comparisons, not a published scoring formula, so the rankings are best read as a practical shortlist, not a price-adjusted lab result. The listed prices mix countries and currencies and date to the article’s July 2, 2025 publication; they are not current 2026 quotes.
What this 2025 phone-camera ranking actually measures
In SlashGear’s July 2, 2025 roundup, Nadeem Sarwar says he tried more than a dozen high-end phones over eight months, using phones as daily drivers for photos and video. For the ranking, he compared devices in similar lighting, subject and distance scenarios, used each phone’s default camera app, and reviewed unedited images on an OLED display.
That gives the list a useful basis for comparing real-world camera behavior, but it is still one author’s editorial assessment. The article does not provide numerical test scores or a reproducible formula for weighting camera quality against price. It also warns that some models were not officially available in the U.S. and might need to be imported.
The article title promises ten phones, but the reviewed list in the source contains nine. The phones below are those nine; other devices mentioned in separate 2025 roundups are not part of this ranking.

| Apple iPhone 16 Pro | $999 at Apple, as cited in the July 2025 article | Consistent color, dependable stills, detail, macro, and video stabilization and exposure | A strong all-round pick if video and predictable results matter as much as still photos. |
| Google Pixel 9 Pro | $999 at the Google Store, as cited in the July 2025 article | Computational photography, AI features, realistic color, portraits, autofocus and stabilization | Its described rear setup is a 50MP main camera plus 48MP ultrawide and zoom cameras. |
| Xiaomi 15 Ultra | RMB 6,499 in China (about $906) and GBP 1,199 in the U.K. (about $1,637), as reported in the July 2025 article | Detail, color and long-range flexibility, with a 1-inch main sensor, 200MP telephoto and Leica-tuned processing | The source notes a weaker ultrawide and exposure problems with bright highlights. |
| Honor Magic 7 Pro | GBP 1,099 in the U.K. (about $1,500), as cited in the July 2025 article | Low-light photos, portraits and ultrawide dynamic range | White balance can be aggressive, and the zoom camera is less effective with moving subjects. |
| Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max | $999 at Walmart, as cited in the July 2025 article | 5x optical telephoto, stabilization, video, portraits and a 48MP main camera | The source frames renewed, refurbished or used units as a possible bargain; it notes the 12MP ultrawide as a difference from the iPhone 16 Pro Max. |
| Google Pixel 8 Pro | $599 at the Google Store, as cited in the July 2025 article | Balanced exposure, realistic color, portraits, macro and computational zoom | Its described cameras are a 50MP main and 48MP ultrawide and telephoto, with 5x optical zoom. |

All quoted prices above are the source’s article-era listings, not verified current prices. Currency conversions are approximate figures reported by the source, not live exchange-rate calculations. For phones not sold through a local official channel, confirm the exact model, seller, network compatibility, warranty and return policy before buying.
Which phone should you pick for your camera priorities?
For flexible telephoto zoom
The Vivo X200 Pro is the standout in the source’s account for detail and consistency across 3x–8x zoom, with useful manual and RAW-oriented controls. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra also emphasizes long-range flexibility, but the author flags its ultrawide and bright-highlight exposure as weaker points. Samsung’s S24 Ultra earns praise for smooth zoom transitions, while the Honor Magic 7 Pro’s zoom is less convincing on moving subjects.

For portraits and natural-looking color
The Oppo Find X8 Ultra is singled out for portraits and natural color and dynamic range. Vivo is also praised for portrait rendering and color consistency. Google’s Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro are described as producing realistic color and strong portraits; the iPhone 16 Pro is praised for consistency rather than a particular color signature.
For video and dependable everyday capture
The iPhone 16 Pro is the clearest fit in the roundup for video: the source specifically praises stabilization and exposure, alongside reliable stills and macro capability. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also commended for stabilization and video, making a used or refurbished unit worth considering if its condition and price make sense.

For low light, ultrawide or macro
The Honor Magic 7 Pro gets explicit low-light praise, while the Pixel 8 Pro is credited with balanced exposure, macro capability and computational zoom. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is not the obvious choice if ultrawide quality is your priority, since the source calls that camera weaker than its other cameras.
How to use the list if your budget is around $1,000
For the reader asking which phone to pick within a thousand-dollar budget, this roundup offers several article-era examples near or below that mark: the iPhone 16 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro at $999, the Pixel 8 Pro at $599, and the Vivo X200 Pro at an approximate $836 conversion from its China price. Those figures do not describe equivalent purchase options: one is a China-market price, others are retailer or manufacturer listings, and availability varies by region.

Choose based on the camera result you care about most, then validate the current local price and sales channel. If buying an imported device or a used/refurbished iPhone 15 Pro Max, factor in condition, warranty, returns and regional compatibility rather than treating the listed price as the whole cost.
What the ranking does not establish
- It does not establish that the first-ranked phone is objectively best for every photographer; the article offers qualitative strengths and weaknesses rather than a universal score.
- It does not provide comparable current prices across one market. The figures come from mixed countries, retailers and currencies in a July 2025 article.
- It does not establish current availability or stock. Some models may require importing, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max discussion concerns renewed, refurbished or used purchase possibilities.
- It is not a ten-phone list in the source text reviewed: nine models are described.
Sources and scope
This article reflects the models and findings in Nadeem Sarwar’s SlashGear roundup, published July 2, 2025. Digital Camera World published a separate 2025 camera-phone guide that includes different models, such as the CMF Phone 2 Pro; that separate list is not merged into SlashGear’s ranking.
