Short answer: use Epic Games Store for limited-time premium giveaways, Steam for the largest all-purpose catalog, itch.io for indie and experimental games, and GOG for DRM-free classics. The best choice depends on what “free” means to you: free-to-play, free-to-keep, freeware, a demo, or access included with a subscription.
Last checked: August 9, 2026. Game catalogs, giveaway deadlines, regional availability, age ratings, languages, system requirements, and launcher policies change frequently. Use the official live pages linked below rather than relying on an old list of individual games.
What “free” means on these sites
Before downloading anything, check the exact label on the listing. A free game can mean several different things:
| Label | What it means | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Free-to-play | The base game can be downloaded and played without buying it. | Cosmetics, battle passes, premium currency, expansions, advertisements, randomized purchases, or other paid items may be present. Some games also require a permanent internet connection. |
| Free-to-keep | A normally paid game is claimed during a promotion and associated with your account. | You must claim it before the deadline. It may remain tied to the account rather than providing a DRM-free installer, and it may require a launcher later. |
| Freeware | The copyright holder distributes the game at no charge. | Freeware is not automatically open-source, public domain, redistributable, or licensed for commercial use. |
| Pay-what-you-want | You can enter zero dollars or choose to pay the creator. | A payment may unlock bonus files, soundtracks, extra content, or a different build. |
| Demo, prologue, or trial | You receive a limited section or time-limited version of a paid game. | It is not the complete game and may stop at a particular chapter or after a time limit. |
| Included with a subscription | You can play while an active subscription includes the title. | This is not free ownership. Microsoft, for example, distinguishes games labeled Free from those labeled Included with Game Pass on its PC listings. |
There is no single best free-game download site. The ten services below are ranked by use case, legitimacy, quality of selection, discovery tools, installation experience, ownership and DRM characteristics, and Windows compatibility—not by catalog size alone.

Quick comparison
| Site | Best for | What you will mainly find | Account and launcher | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Games Store | Premium giveaways | Free-to-keep promotions and mainstream free-to-play games | Epic account and usually the Epic Games Launcher | Giveaways expire; many games remain launcher- or online-dependent |
| Steam | Overall selection and discovery | Free-to-play games, demos, free weekends, and community-supported releases | Steam account and usually the Steam client | Monetization, large downloads, anti-cheat, and occasional security incidents are possible |
| itch.io | Indie and experimental games | Freeware, game-jam entries, prototypes, browser games, and direct downloads | Account often optional for browser or direct downloads; desktop app optional | Open publishing means inconsistent quality, documentation, and safety |
| GOG | DRM-free games and classics | Free games, demos, teasers, mods, and some classic PC releases | GOG account; GOG GALAXY is optional for supported offline single-player games | The free filter includes DLC, soundtracks, and other items—not only complete games |
| Microsoft Store / Xbox PC app | Windows and Xbox integration | Windows-native free-to-play games and casual, family, racing, and sports titles | Usually a Microsoft account; Store or Xbox app requirements vary | Game Pass listings can look similar to genuinely free listings |
| Battle.net | Blizzard and Activision games | Free-to-play games and selected trials | Battle.net account and desktop client | Not a broad discovery marketplace |
| EA app | EA’s own free games | Games such as Apex Legends and The Sims 4 base game | EA account and EA app; it can also be required for games obtained through Steam or Epic | Free base games do not include paid expansions or premium content |
| Ubisoft Store / Ubisoft Connect | Ubisoft free-to-play titles and promotions | Free-to-play releases, trials, and occasional free-to-keep offers | Ubisoft account and often Ubisoft Connect | “Free” promotions may be trials or temporary access |
| Game Jolt | Fan games and community projects | Fan games, horror projects, prototypes, browser games, and freeware | Varies; the desktop app can simplify installation | New uploads are not uniformly moderated or vetted |
| Riot Games official sites | Riot’s competitive free PC games | League of Legends, VALORANT, 2XKO, and other publisher-operated titles | Riot account and Riot’s game client or launcher | Online-only services, anti-cheat, updates, and separate account requirements |
1. Epic Games Store — best for free premium games
Epic’s official free-games page is the best starting point if your priority is occasionally getting a normally paid PC game at no cost. Epic advertises a new free game every week, alongside a permanent selection of free-to-play titles.
The live catalog also includes mainstream games such as Fortnite, Rocket League, Genshin Impact, Fall Guys, VALORANT, Destiny 2, Apex Legends, and Warframe. This list is volatile, so check the linked page for the current offer and availability in your country.
How to claim a giveaway
- Open Epic’s official free-games page and select the current giveaway.
- Sign in or create an Epic account.
- Check whether the listing is a complete game, free-to-play base game, demo, trial, or DLC.
- Select Get or the current claim button and complete the checkout process, which should show a zero price for an eligible giveaway.
- Open the Epic Games Launcher, select Library, and install the claimed game.
A giveaway must be claimed before its promotion ends. After claiming, it is generally associated with the Epic account, but that does not mean it is DRM-free or guaranteed to work offline. Individual games may require Epic, a separate publisher account, internet access, or an online service.
Best for: mainstream games and people willing to check the weekly promotion.
Trade-off: the giveaway program is excellent, but you need another account and usually another launcher. In-game purchases, online-only play, and regional or age restrictions may apply.
2. Steam — best overall
Steam’s free-to-play search page combines a very large catalog with useful filters, tags, user reviews, system requirements, controller information, demos, and community troubleshooting. It is the strongest general-purpose choice when you want to browse rather than find one publisher’s games.
Examples visible in the live free-to-play catalog include Counter-Strike 2, Warframe, Marvel Rivals, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, Dota 2, The Sims 4, Team Fortress 2, and VRChat. Availability, pricing, and platform support can change.
How to download from Steam
- Install Steam from the official Steam website and create or sign in to a Steam account.
- Open Store and search for a title.
- Use the Free to Play label or filter, or look for the game’s Demo option.
- Verify the publisher, operating-system support, reviews, system requirements, and online requirements.
- Select Play Game for a free-to-play title or Download Demo for a demo.
- Choose an installation location in Steam’s library dialog, then launch it from Library.
Steam is a legitimate major storefront, but no storefront is an absolute malware guarantee. The FBI is investigating malware embedded in several Steam games distributed between May 2024 and January 2026, including reports involving BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse/DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova. This does not make Steam equivalent to a piracy portal; it does show why you should keep Windows security protections enabled and treat user reviews as information, not malware certification.
Free-to-play Steam games can include battle passes, cosmetics, premium currencies, expansions, loot-box-style purchases, anti-cheat software, large downloads, and online-only requirements.
Best for: the broadest discovery experience, multiplayer games, demos, and community support.
Trade-off: most titles are account-bound and usually require Steam to launch or update.
3. itch.io — best for indie, experimental, and game-jam releases
itch.io’s free-games page is the best place to look beyond mainstream storefronts. Its catalog contains independent freeware, prototypes, game-jam entries, short horror games, visual novels, experimental projects, browser games, and creator-direct downloads.
Use the page’s filters carefully. Choose Windows under Platform and Downloadable under Type if you want an installed Windows game. Play in browser means the game runs online and may not provide a Windows executable.
How to use itch.io safely
- Open the game’s page on itch.io rather than following an unrelated mirror link.
- Check the developer name, screenshots, description, version, file type, system requirements, comments, content warnings, and maturity information.
- Confirm whether you are downloading a full game, demo, prototype, game-jam build, or mod.
- Download the file linked on the official itch.io page.
- Extract a ZIP file if necessary and read the included README or installation instructions.
- Leave Windows Defender and other security protections enabled. Do not blindly override a warning just because a comment says it is a false positive.
itch.io is valuable precisely because it is open to many creators, but that openness means there is no uniform quality-control or installation process. Projects can be unfinished, abandoned, poorly documented, mature, or experimental. “Free” does not mean family-friendly, professionally tested, or guaranteed safe.
Best for: unusual games, creator-direct downloads, browser games, prototypes, and independent releases.

- LEGENDARY MICRO-WOVEN CLOTH — An optimal surface for mouse precision and performance, the proprietary micro-woven cloth makes the SteelSeries QcK trusted by pros around the world, with over 15 million sold

- QcK SERIES — The QcK Series' legendary micro-woven cloth has made it the world’s best-selling surface. Available in multiple sizes and colors, the QcK is the gold standard for gamers everywhere
Trade-off: you must evaluate each upload yourself. An account is often unnecessary for a direct download, but requirements vary by creator and game.
4. GOG — best for DRM-free games and classic PC titles
GOG’s free-games filter is the strongest choice for readers who care about offline single-player access and downloadable installers. GOG is especially useful for classic PC games that have been packaged to work on modern systems.
GOG’s DRM-free policy says supported single-player modes should be accessible offline and that the GOG GALAXY client is optional for single-player offline access. GOG also maintains a preservation program focused on keeping classic titles playable.
Check the product type before downloading
GOG’s free filter is not a list of complete games only. It can include DLC, soundtracks, mods, playable teasers, demos, chapters, and other extras. Inspect the product page and identify exactly what you are getting before calling it a free full game.
How to download
- Open GOG’s free-games page and inspect the product type.
- Add the eligible item to your account if required.
- Download the offline installer from your GOG account or install through GOG GALAXY.
- Save the installer if long-term offline access and backup are important to you.
DRM-free does not mean every feature works offline. Multiplayer, achievements, updates, live services, and other account-based features can still require internet access. Older games may also use DOSBox or compatibility settings even when GOG has prepared the package.
Best for: offline single-player gaming, classic PC titles, and users who want to keep installers.
Trade-off: the genuinely free catalog is smaller than Steam’s or itch.io’s, and the free filter includes extras that are not full games.
5. Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app — best for Windows-native games
Microsoft’s Top free games on PC page is convenient for Windows users who prefer the Microsoft Store or Xbox ecosystem. It provides filters for genre, multiplayer, accessibility, platform capabilities, and ESRB rating.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Pay close attention to the listing labels. Microsoft separates games labeled Free, games labeled Free with in-app purchases, and games labeled Included with Game Pass. A Game Pass title is available through a paid subscription while the subscription and catalog eligibility last; it is not free ownership.
How to download
- Open the linked PC games page or search in the Microsoft Store app.
- Confirm that the listing says Free, not only Included with Game Pass.
- Select the game and choose Get or Install.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if prompted.
- Check whether Xbox services, an additional account, online access, or in-app purchases are required.
This is a useful option for casual, family, racing, sports, and Xbox-connected games, but the catalog presentation can mix genuinely free games with subscription titles and mobile-style free-to-play products. The Microsoft page provides ESRB filters, but parents should also check chat, advertising, online interaction, and purchase settings.
Best for: Windows integration and readers already using Microsoft or Xbox services.
Trade-off: it can be harder to distinguish free ownership from Game Pass access at a glance.

Battle.net is the official route for Blizzard and selected Activision PC games. Blizzard’s download page provides the Battle.net client and identifies games such as Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, as well as free trials for some other titles.
Installation path
- Download Battle.net from Blizzard’s official page.
- Install the Windows client and sign in or create a Battle.net account.
- Select an eligible free-to-play game in the client.
- Choose Install and review the storage location, connection requirements, and system requirements.
Battle.net is a good destination when you already know which Blizzard or Activision game you want, but it is not as useful as Steam or itch.io for general discovery. Expect online services, seasonal content, in-game purchases, account requirements, and potentially anti-cheat components.
Best for: Overwatch 2, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Blizzard services.

7. EA app — best for EA’s free games
EA’s official EA app page describes the app as the company’s PC and Mac gaming platform. EA says the app is required to play EA games on PC, including titles obtained through Steam or Epic. The Windows app requires a 64-bit PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Examples include Apex Legends and the free base game of The Sims 4. EA’s installation instructions for The Sims 4 explain that the base game can be downloaded through the EA app, Steam, or Epic. Expansions and other downloadable content are separate purchases.
Installation path
- Download the EA app from EA’s official website.
- Install it on a supported 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC.
- Sign in or create an EA account.
- Find the free game and select Download or Install.
- If you obtained an EA game through Steam or Epic, follow the account-linking prompt and expect the EA app to open when the game launches.
Best for: EA-specific free-to-play games and free base editions.
Trade-off: it is a publisher-specific launcher, not a broad free-game marketplace, and the free base game may exclude expansions, premium currency, and other paid content.

Ubisoft’s official free-games page lists free-to-play PC titles and promotional offers. Examples shown by the service include Brawlhalla, BattleCore Arena, Rabbids Coding!, and The Division Resurgence; the catalog and regional availability can change.
Ubisoft Connect is Ubisoft’s free service, but it requires a Ubisoft account. Individual games may require Ubisoft Connect even if you discover or obtain them through another storefront.
What to check
- Open the official Ubisoft free-games page.
- Determine whether the offer says Free to Play, Free, or Trial.
- Review whether the promotion provides permanent access or only a free-access period.
- Install Ubisoft Connect if the game requires it, sign in, and install the title through the client.
Best for: Ubisoft’s own free-to-play catalog and occasional official promotions.
Trade-off: the catalog is smaller than Steam’s or Epic’s, and a “free” promotion may be a trial rather than permanent ownership.

Game Jolt’s store includes free, pay-what-you-want, and paid games. Its filters can narrow results by operating system, browser or HTML5 support, maturity rating, and development status. The Game Jolt desktop app offers Windows and Linux downloads and can make finding and installing games easier.
Game Jolt is particularly useful for fan games, horror projects, prototypes, older community releases, and browser games. Read the individual page carefully: a browser game is not a Windows download, and a fan project may have different installation instructions from a conventional store release.
The platform’s own new-games page warns that newly added games are not moderated, curated, or vetted by the community. That makes Game Jolt a legitimate platform for discovering user-created content, not a guarantee that every uploaded executable is safe or polished.
Safer download routine
- Use the game’s official Game Jolt page and confirm the developer, platform, version, and maturity rating.
- Prefer the official desktop app or the download linked on that page.
- Scan unfamiliar ZIP files or executables with updated security software.
- Do not disable Windows security merely because a fan game requests it.
Best for: fan-made games, horror projects, prototypes, and community releases.
Trade-off: file quality, maintenance, safety, and documentation vary much more than on a curated commercial storefront.
10. Riot Games’ official sites — best for Riot’s free PC games
For Riot games, the publisher’s own download pages are the most direct and trustworthy source. Riot provides an official League of Legends PC download page, while the 2XKO website describes that game as free-to-play on PC.

Riot also publishes other free-to-play PC games, including VALORANT. Availability, regional access, launcher requirements, and account rules should be checked on each game’s official page rather than assumed from another Riot title.
What to expect
- Open the official Riot site for the specific game.
- Download the publisher’s client and sign in or create the relevant Riot account.
- Check the game’s Windows requirements, storage size, online requirement, and any anti-cheat software.
- Install and update the game through Riot’s client.
Riot games are generally online services with frequent updates, competitive systems, account requirements, and in-game purchases. A Riot account does not necessarily provide automatic access to every Riot game, and free-to-play does not mean that every cosmetic, battle pass, or optional item is free.
Best for: players who specifically want League of Legends, VALORANT, 2XKO, or another Riot title.
Trade-off: Riot’s sites are publisher download portals, not general-purpose discovery stores, and the games depend heavily on online infrastructure.
Which site should you choose?
- You want a normally paid game at no cost: check Epic’s weekly giveaway first, then look at official Ubisoft or other publisher promotions. Claim deadlines matter.
- You want the largest variety: start with Steam and use its free-to-play, demo, genre, operating-system, and review filters.
- You want unusual indie or short games: use itch.io, filtering for Windows and downloadable projects.
- You want offline single-player gaming: check GOG first, then verify the specific title’s offline behavior. DRM-free does not guarantee offline multiplayer or live services.
- You want a particular publisher’s game: use that publisher’s official client—Battle.net for Blizzard and Activision, EA app for EA, Ubisoft Connect for Ubisoft, or Riot’s official page for Riot games.
- You want Windows Store integration: use Microsoft’s free PC page, but reject listings that only say Included with Game Pass if you are not looking for a subscription.
- You are choosing for a child: use ESRB and maturity filters, then check chat, online interaction, ads, and in-app purchases. A free label says nothing about age suitability.
- You have a low-end PC: use each store’s system-requirement information and look for smaller indie, classic, browser, or 2D games. A free download can still require substantial storage, a modern graphics API, a 64-bit operating system, or a powerful GPU.
How to download free PC games safely
Use the official-domain rule
Begin at the storefront or publisher domain, not a search result promising a “cracked,” “repacked,” or “full version unlocked” copy. For example, use store.epicgames.com, steampowered.com, itch.io, gog.com, microsoft.com, ea.com, ubisoft.com, battle.net, gamejolt.com, or the game publisher’s verified domain. A site having a large catalog or a prominent download button does not prove that it has permission to distribute the files.
Verify what you are downloading
- Confirm the developer or publisher shown on the listing.
- Check that the platform is Windows and that the file is a game rather than DLC, a soundtrack, a mod, a trainer, an emulator image, or a demo.
- Read the system requirements and online-service requirements.
- Check the price label and whether the offer expires.
- Use the official launcher or the download link on the verified game page.
- Keep Windows, Microsoft Defender, your browser, and graphics drivers updated.
Microsoft recommends trusted download sources such as the Microsoft Store, updated antivirus protection, and Windows security features such as Smart App Control where available. This is risk reduction, not an absolute guarantee.
Stop when a download asks for suspicious extras
Do not install a “downloader,” browser extension, key generator, crack, unlocker, DLL pack, or unrelated utility to obtain a game that should be free. Be especially cautious when a page shows several fake download buttons, redirects through advertising sites, asks you to disable antivirus, or tells you to whitelist a file without explaining why.
The FBI warns that pirated games, torrents, and supposedly free content for software that normally costs money can contain malware. Avoid cracked games and unauthorized torrents even when comments claim that the files are clean.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to do if installation fails
- Check the offer: sign in to the correct account and confirm that the promotion has not expired or been restricted in your region.
- Check storage: free games can require more space after installation than the download size suggests.
- Restart: close and reopen the launcher, then restart Windows if necessary.
- Check compatibility: verify Windows version, 64-bit requirements, processor, RAM, graphics API, GPU, controller support, and online connection.
- Use built-in repair tools: use the launcher’s file-verification or repair feature where available.
- Check service status: an outage can prevent account authentication or downloads.
- Reinstall only from the official source: do not replace a missing DLL or failed installer with a file from an unrelated download site.
- Do not immediately bypass a security block: investigate the publisher, digital signature, file name, and official support information before taking any action. Do not whitelist an unknown file simply because a community comment calls it a false positive.
If you suspect malware
Stop running the installer or game. If active compromise is plausible, disconnect the PC from the internet, then run Microsoft Defender or another reputable, updated security tool. From a separate clean device, change important passwords, enable multifactor authentication, and review active sessions for Steam, Epic, Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Battle.net, Riot, email, and financial accounts.
Do not dismiss an antivirus detection solely because the download came from a major storefront or because other players report that it works. Preserve relevant information and report suspected criminal activity through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center where appropriate.
Sites and downloads to avoid
Do not treat piracy portals, cracked-game sites, unauthorized repack sites, key generators, ROM repositories without clear rights, or “free AAA game” download pages as legitimate alternatives. They can infringe copyright, tamper with files, bundle malware, or require unsafe security exceptions.
Internet Archive can be useful for preservation, historical software, browser emulation, public-domain material, and clearly authorized freeware. It should not be treated as a universal source of free modern PC games. The Internet Archive explains that some items are access-restricted, and the U.S. Copyright Office notes that downloading copyrighted works without authorization can infringe copyright. A game being old, delisted, or no longer commercially supported does not automatically make downloading it legal.
Other legitimate options
Amazon Prime Gaming
Prime Gaming can provide free PC games and in-game content to Amazon Prime members. It is not a free site for everyone because the benefit depends on a paid Prime membership. Claimed games may use the Amazon Games app or redemption through GOG, Epic, or another launcher.
Humble, Fanatical, and Green Man Gaming
These are legitimate places to find discounts, bundles, and official game keys. They are useful when “cheap” is acceptable, but they are not included in this strict free-download top ten because most offers require payment or a subscription.
Frequently asked questions
What is the safest site for free PC games?
For mainstream games, official stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, GOG, and publisher sites are generally lower-risk than unofficial download portals because they provide clearer publisher and licensing information. No platform guarantees that every individual file is harmless. Keep security software enabled and evaluate the specific game page.

Where can I get premium PC games free to keep?
Epic Games Store is the best regular source to check for limited-time premium giveaways. Ubisoft and other publishers also run occasional promotions. You must claim the game before the stated deadline, and the resulting license may require an account or launcher.
Is Steam itself free?
Yes. The Steam client and account do not cost money, and Steam has many free-to-play games and demos. Some games sold through Steam still cost money, while free-to-play games can contain optional or sometimes extensive purchases.
Is Epic’s weekly game really free?
Eligible giveaways can be claimed at a zero price during the promotion window. They are not necessarily DRM-free, offline, or permanently available to new claimants after the deadline. Open the live offer page and read the individual listing.

Are itch.io downloads safe?
Many are legitimate independent projects, but itch.io has a broad creator-uploaded catalog rather than one uniform testing standard. Check the developer, file type, comments, content warnings, and instructions. Do not disable Windows security to run an unfamiliar file.
Does GOG require a launcher?
GOG GALAXY is optional for supported single-player offline games. You can generally use downloadable offline installers instead. Online multiplayer, updates, achievements, or other connected features may still require internet access or account services.
Is Game Pass free?
No. Game Pass is a paid subscription. A game labeled Included with Game Pass is subscription access, not free ownership. Use Microsoft’s Free label when you specifically want a game that costs nothing to obtain.
Can I download games without creating an account?
Sometimes. Certain direct downloads on itch.io or Game Jolt may not require an account, while major stores and publisher launchers commonly do. Account requirements also vary by individual game, even when the store itself is free to install.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Are free-to-play games completely free?
No. The base game is free to access, but the title may sell cosmetics, premium currency, battle passes, expansions, randomized items, subscriptions, advertisements, or progression shortcuts. Check the game’s store description and parental purchase settings.
What should I do if Windows blocks a game?
Stop and investigate before bypassing the warning. Confirm that you used the official source, identify the publisher, check the file’s digital signature and current support documentation, and scan it with updated security software. Do not automatically disable SmartScreen, antivirus, or other protections.
Which sites are best for low-end PCs?
itch.io and GOG are often good places to search for small indie and classic games, while Steam has useful system-requirement information and filters. Still check the specific game: a free title may require a modern 64-bit Windows installation, a dedicated GPU, substantial storage, or an always-online connection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the safest site for free PC games?
Official stores and publisher sites such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, GOG, EA, Ubisoft, Battle.net, and Riot’s sites are generally lower-risk than unofficial portals. No platform is an absolute safety guarantee, so keep security protections enabled and check the individual game page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhere can I get premium PC games free to keep?
Check Epic Games Store’s limited-time giveaways first. Ubisoft and other publishers also run occasional promotions. Claim the game before the deadline and check whether the resulting license requires a launcher or account.
Is Game Pass free?
No. Game Pass is a paid subscription. A listing marked Included with Game Pass provides access while the subscription and catalog eligibility last; it is not free ownership.
Are itch.io and Game Jolt downloads safe?
They are legitimate platforms with many genuine independent projects, but their open publishing models mean individual uploads vary in quality, documentation, maturity, and safety. Download from the verified game page, inspect the developer and file, and do not disable Windows security.
Does GOG require a launcher?
GOG GALAXY is optional for supported single-player offline games. GOG’s downloadable offline installers can be used instead, although multiplayer and other connected features may still require online services.

Do not immediately bypass the warning. Confirm the official source, publisher, digital signature, and current support information, then scan the file with updated security software. Never whitelist an unknown installer merely because a community comment calls the warning a false positive.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with Epic Games Store for free-to-keep promotions, Steam for the widest mainstream selection, itch.io for independent projects, and GOG for DRM-free offline classics. Use Microsoft Store, Battle.net, EA, Ubisoft, or Riot when you want a specific publisher’s game. Whatever site you choose, verify what “free” includes, check the launcher and account requirements, and download only from the official game page.
