There is no single best replacement for Bolt.new. The right alternative depends on whether you want the same prompt-to-app flow, an editable development environment, a managed backend, a visual no-code builder, or an AI code editor working on a codebase you control. If you want the closest match to Bolt.new’s chat-to-app experience, Lovable is the tool the 2026 comparisons point to first. If you want an agent, an editable environment, hosting, and a database in one workspace, Replit is the stronger fit.
This guide covers ten tools: Lovable, Replit, v0, Cursor, Devin Desktop, Base44, Softgen, FlutterFlow, Bubble, and Windsurf. They are not ten interchangeable products. Bubble is a visual no-code platform, FlutterFlow targets native mobile apps, and Cursor, Windsurf, and Devin Desktop are code-editor paths rather than hosted app builders. The placements below come from two 2026 comparison articles, one dated August and one dated September, so each tool description reports what those sources state and flags where they leave a question open.
Match the tool to your build workflow
Start with the job you need done, not the brand name. The table maps common priorities to the tool that fits each one.

| If your priority is | Start with | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| The same prompt-to-app flow you use in Bolt.new | Lovable | Generates an app with a front end and a connected backend |
| An agent, editable code, hosting, and a database in one workspace | Replit | Full-stack, IDE-oriented, with hosting |
| A React front end and Vercel deployment | v0 | Sources differ on how far beyond the front end it goes |
| A managed backend with authentication, database, and hosting | Base44 | Integrated backend features; permission depth needs checking |
| A visual no-code app with a database and user roles | Bubble | Mature visual platform with a different learning curve |
| A native iOS or Android app | FlutterFlow | Exports Flutter apps for app-store release |
| AI assistance inside an editor, with you owning the codebase | Cursor, Windsurf, or Devin Desktop | Developer workflows rather than hosted builders |
| A prompt-led builder that lets you choose models | Softgen | Model availability and plan limits need checking |
The ten alternatives, tool by tool
Lovable
Comparisons describe Lovable as generating an app with a front end and a connected backend, which is the closest workflow to Bolt.new among the ten. You describe the app, review the output, and iterate in conversation.
#1 Best Overall
- Watch for: how far the connected backend’s data model and permission controls go for your app. Test those rather than assuming them.
Replit
Replit is described as a full-stack workflow with an IDE-oriented environment and hosting. Its agent works inside an editable development environment, so you can open, read, and change the code yourself. That suits readers who want to keep inspecting the output as the app grows.
- Watch for: more control means more to manage. The usage model deserves a close look on the pricing page before you commit.
v0
Sources disagree on scope. One comparison emphasizes React and shadcn UI with deployment on Vercel. Another describes a broader full-stack direction. If your team already builds React front ends on Vercel, read the vendor’s current documentation to see which parts of a full-stack app it covers today.
- Watch for: the gap between a polished interface and a complete back end. Confirm the second before you rely on the first.
Cursor
Cursor is an AI-assisted code editor, not a managed prompt-to-app service. You keep the codebase, the repository, and the deployment choices. It suits developers who already know how to build and deploy an app and want AI help inside the editor.
Recommended Free Tools
Rank #2
- HTML CSS Design and Build Web Sites
- Comes with secure packaging
- It can be a gift option
- Watch for: hosting, database setup, and deployment are your responsibility, so budget the time for them.
Devin Desktop
The September comparison lists Devin Desktop as an editor with inline assistance and cloud-agent functionality. It is not presented as a direct app-hosting substitute for Bolt.new, so treat it as a developer tool rather than a builder.
- Watch for: if you need a hosted app out of the box, pair it with separate hosting or choose a builder instead.
Base44
Comparisons describe Base44 with integrated authentication, a database, and hosting. That makes it a candidate for a reader who wants a managed builder with backend features in one place.
- Watch for: the data model and permission depth against your production requirements. The comparisons do not settle that question.
Softgen
Softgen appears in the September 2026 comparison as a prompt-led builder that lets you select models. Model availability and plan limits were not confirmed for this guide, so check the vendor’s current documentation before choosing it for a project that depends on a specific model.
Rank #3
- Watch for: the model list and limits may have changed since the comparison was written.
FlutterFlow
FlutterFlow is an adjacent option with a different output target. The comparison says it exports Flutter apps for app-store release, so it fits a native iOS or Android app rather than a responsive web application. Choose it only if a mobile store release is the requirement.
- Watch for: if your goal is a browser-based app, FlutterFlow solves a different problem.
Bubble
Bubble is a mature visual no-code platform with a built-in database and app-level roles, according to the comparison. You assemble the app visually rather than describing it in a prompt box, so expect a different learning curve. It suits a long-lived internal or business application where a visual model is an asset.
- Watch for: the time to learn the visual model is the main cost, separate from the subscription.
Windsurf
Windsurf is an AI-assisted editor aimed at developers who want AI inside their codebase. The comparison treats it as a developer workflow rather than a generated, hosted app builder.
Rank #4
- Brand: Wiley
- Set of 2 Volumes
- A handy two-book set that uniquely combines related technologies Highly visual format and accessible language makes these books highly effective learning tools Perfect for beginning web designers and front-end developers
- Watch for: like Cursor, it assumes you handle hosting and deployment.
What the generated-app benchmark shows
The 2025 paper “From Prompt to Product: A Human-Centered Benchmark of Agentic App Generation Systems” by Marcos Ortiz, Justin Hill, Collin Overbay, Ingrida Semenec, Frederic Sauve-Hoover, Jim Schwoebel, and Joel Shor compares three systems: Replit, Bolt, and Firebase Studio. It used 96 prompts, produced 288 generated application artifacts, and drew on a human-rater study with 205 participants and 1,071 quality-filtered pairwise comparisons. Its abstract reports that Firebase Studio had the highest win rates across the measured human-evaluation dimensions.
“These findings highlight a persistent gap between visual polish and functional reliability in prompt-to-app systems and demonstrate the necessity of interactive, task-based evaluation.” (Ortiz et al., 2025)

The paper’s main lesson for this guide is about evaluation. A generated app can look finished and still fail the task it was built for, so judge each tool on the behavior of the app rather than its screens. Firebase Studio is not on this list, and this guide does not use the study to order Replit against Bolt.
Best Value
Is there a free Bolt.new alternative?
This guide does not confirm a free tier for any of the ten tools. Where free access exists, it may carry limits on usage, number of projects, or hosting. Those terms change, so check each vendor’s pricing page on the day you decide, and confirm whether private projects and code export are included on the free plan.
Compare usage terms, not the headline price
The comparison articles print plan prices and limits, but those are dated third-party figures, so this guide does not repeat them. For most readers, the usage model shapes the real cost more than the subscription price. When you compare tools, check:
- The metered unit, such as credits or tokens, and how much a typical build of your app consumes.
- What happens at the limit: a pause, an overage charge, or a downgrade.
- Whether hosting, private projects, and code export are included on the plan you need.
Production checks before you commit
Do not assume a generated app includes these controls. Confirm each one for the plan you would actually buy.
- User roles and permissions: can you define roles, and do they apply to individual records or only to pages?
- Single sign-on: if your organization requires it, confirm it is offered on your plan.
- Audit trail: can you see who changed what, and when?
- Durable state: does data persist across sessions, redeploys, and plan changes?
- Code ownership: can you export the code or access the repository, and move hosting elsewhere if needed?
- Hosting and deployment: where does the app run, and who operates it?
- Output target: a responsive web app or a native iOS or Android app?
A one-afternoon test on two shortlisted tools
Testing a short list yourself will tell you more than any comparison table. Use the same spec for each tool.
Quick Recap
- Write a one-page spec that includes a login, two user roles with different permissions, one record type with edit history, and one summary view.
- Enter the same spec, with the same wording, into each shortlisted tool.
- Log out and log back in. Confirm that the session and the records behave as expected.
- Change one user’s role. Confirm the permission change applies to that user only.
- Reload the app and restart any preview or hosting session. Confirm the data is still there.
- Find the code or repository access inside the tool and note what you would need to move the app.
- Record the usage each build consumed and compare it with the plan’s allowance and overage terms.
What this comparison cannot settle
- Placements: the shortlist comes from two comparison articles, not from a shared build across all ten tools. The September article did not run one shared build across its eight alternatives, so neither article establishes which tool produces the better app.
- Benchmark scope: the 2025 study covers Replit, Bolt, and Firebase Studio only. It says nothing about the other nine tools on this list.
- Currency: product scope, model availability, and plan details change quickly. The descriptions above reflect the cited 2026 comparisons, and each vendor’s current documentation takes precedence.
