Apple HomeView is more than a wall or tabletop controller for smart lights. The 7-inch display combines Siri AI, Apple Intelligence, cooking guidance, media handoff, guest-safe access, proximity-aware views, and temperature and humidity sensing. It can also act as a remote HomeKit and Matter hub when you are away from home.
Here are ten less obvious capabilities, plus the privacy, device, language and regional limits that determine what HomeView can actually do.

1. Turn Safari recipes into a guided cooking station
When you open a compatible recipe in Safari, HomeView can extract its ingredients and instructions and offer a Start Cooking flow. You can move through the steps without repeatedly touching a phone or tablet, while Siri starts multiple timers by voice. That makes it practical for recipes with overlapping resting, boiling and baking times.
2. Use Siri without relying on one trigger
You can say “Siri” or “Hey Siri” hands-free. If speaking is inconvenient, swipe down from the top of the display or use Type to Siri. The reported HomeView feature set lists Siri access in English, so other languages may not have the same controls at launch.
#1 Best Overall
- Rich, 360-Degree Sound – Delivers deep bass and crisp high frequencies for immersive audio in any room.
- Siri Voice Assistant – Control music, smart home devices, and get information hands-free.
- Seamless Apple Integration – Works effortlessly with iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV for a connected experience.
- Compact & Stylish Design – Small but powerful, fits perfectly in any space.
- Privacy & Security – Designed to keep your personal information safe and secure.
3. Ask general-knowledge questions without an Apple Intelligence iPhone
HomeView includes Apple Intelligence features, allowing household members to ask general-knowledge questions through Siri AI even if they do not own an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Requests that depend on your personal context—such as information drawn from your own messages or documents—still require a compatible Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad.
Apple describes HomeView’s assistant as “Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and advanced Apple silicon.” In HomeView software version 27.2, Siri AI is identified as beta, and server-side Apple Intelligence features may have daily usage limits.

4. Let guests use the home without exposing personal information
Unrecognized visitors can still control compatible accessories, ask for the weather, set timers, play music and AirPlay audio. Personal Messages and Calendar content is gated: HomeView surfaces it only when an enrolled person is recognized and that person’s paired iPhone or iPad is nearby and has been recently unlocked.

Personalization supports up to six recognized people. This separation lets HomeView function as a shared household screen while keeping private information tied to identity and a trusted, recently used device.

5. The amount of information changes with distance
HomeView can adapt its presentation as someone approaches. From across the room, it can show fewer details in a larger, more legible layout. Moving closer can reveal additional information for direct interaction. The result is a glanceable display at a distance rather than a permanently dense dashboard.
6. Replace a static standby screen with customizable faces
HomeView offers multiple customizable faces, broadly similar to watch faces. Apple says faces can “wake with you in the morning” and “wind down with you at night.” One example is Snoopy, whose animations can vary with the time of day, weather and holidays. These faces make the display useful even when you are not controlling an accessory or playing media.
Rank #4
- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
7. Use compatible third-party media apps without an on-device App Store
HomeView does not include a local App Store. Instead, compatible third-party audio and video apps installed on a linked iPhone can appear on HomeView through a CarPlay-like model. This keeps app installation and account management on the phone while allowing supported playback on the display.
8. Continue activities with Handoff
Handoff transfers songs, podcasts, calls, videos and recipes from an iPhone to HomeView. You can begin an activity on the phone and move it to the room’s larger screen or speaker without starting over. The supported activity list covers both media and practical tasks such as following a recipe.

9. Keep Live Activities visible while doing something else
Live Activities can remain on screen while another app or view is active. A running timer or an incoming Intercom message can therefore stay visible instead of disappearing when you switch tasks. This is especially useful during cooking or when HomeView is serving as a household status display.
10. Use built-in sensors and control the home remotely
Temperature and humidity sensors can participate in Home app scenes and automations. For example, those readings can help trigger an automation when a room becomes unusually warm or damp, subject to the conditions you configure in the Home app.
HomeView also serves as a remote hub for compatible HomeKit and Matter accessories, allowing control while you are away. Apple lists lights, locks, cameras, thermostats, scenes and automations among its dashboard use cases. Accessories—including a Matter-compatible smart light bulb—are sold separately, and compatibility depends on the specific accessory and region.

Regional, language and privacy limits
- Siri AI launches in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Canadian French is planned later.
- The European Union is excluded from the initial launch because Siri AI is not currently available in iOS there.
- Some functions require a paired compatible iPhone or iPad, a supported language, a subscription or a compatible HomeKit or Matter accessory.
- Apple says data processed and analysed in Secure Exclaves cannot be accessed by HomeView software, apps, the user or Apple.
Apple says select Apple Home Collection accessories are planned for December 2026, with additional select accessories expected in early 2027.
