鹿島建設のA⁴CSEL（クワッドアクセル）は、機械を遠隔操縦するだけの仕組みではありません。施工計画に基づいて複数の建設機械を自律・自動運転させ、管制室から作業指示を出して協調させる建設生産システムです。鹿島建設は2009年に開発を始め、振動ローラーの自動化から出発して、ダンプトラックやブルドーザーを含む連携施工へと発展させました。ダム現場で重ねた実証を足がかりに、変化の多い造成工事、さらに高速道路本線の工事へ適用範囲を広げています。
A⁴CSELは何を自動化するシステムか
鹿島建設によると、A⁴CSELは「Automated/Autonomous/Advanced/Accelerated Construction system for Safety, Efficiency, and Liability」の略称です。計測機器や制御用コンピューターを建設機械に搭載し、施工計画と管制室からの指示に沿って、機械が計画された作業を自律的に実行します。鹿島建設の説明は、機械ごとに人が運転する方式や、オペレーターが一台ずつ遠隔操縦する方式とは異なり、複数機械の作業をまとめて計画・管理する点を特徴としています。鹿島建設のシステム紹介
2017年の発表で鹿島建設は、A⁴CSELを「一人で複数の自動化重機を同時運転する世界初の技術」と説明しました。後年の統合報告書でも、複数機械を連続して自律・自動運転する建設生産システムとして「世界初」と位置づけています。ただし、これは同社による表現であり、公開資料から独立した世界規模の比較や優先権の検証までは確認できません。鹿島建設の2017年発表 鹿島建設 統合報告書2024

初期の実証は、機械の種類と工程を段階的に増やす形で進みました。
- 2015年・五ケ山ダム（福岡県）：鹿島建設は自動振動ローラーを実施工に適用し、自動ブルドーザーのデモンストレーションも行ったと報告しています。
- 2016～2017年・大分川ダム（大分県）：ダンプトラックの導入試験を実施し、自動運搬と荷下ろしを検証。運搬・荷下ろし、ブルドーザーによる敷き均し、ローラーによる締固めを組み合わせた一連の工程を示しました。
- 2017年・西湘実験フィールド（神奈川県小田原市）：鹿島建設はA⁴CSELなどの建設生産技術を試す施設を開設。自動ダンプトラック、ブルドーザー、振動ローラーの連携を紹介しました。
- 2018年・小石原川ダム：鹿島建設の知的財産に関する記事は、先行するダム現場に続く適用事例として挙げています。

なぜダムが初期の実証現場になったのか
ダムの盛り立て工事では、土を運搬し、層状に敷き均し、締め固める作業が繰り返されます。鹿島建設は、この反復性と比較的一様な材料が、自動化技術を試すうえで適していたと説明しています。一定の作業を機械に担わせるだけでなく、複数の機械が工程の順序に沿って動けるかを現場で確かめられるからです。
一方、造成地では場所ごとに地形、材料、高さが変わり、作業領域の形も一定ではありません。ダムで成立した計画をそのまま別の現場に移せるわけではなく、地形や施工範囲に合わせて機械の動線を組み直す必要があります。

鳴瀬ダムで大規模運用と実績を公表
鹿島建設は2020年以降、秋田県の鳴瀬ダム堤体盛立工事にA⁴CSELを適用しました。同社の2024年12月の発表によると、盛立工事のピーク時には、3種類の機械を最大14台、3～4人の「ITパイロット」が連携させる構成で運用しました。これは鳴瀬ダムで報告されたピーク時の体制であり、一般的な現場で必要となる機械数や人員を示す値ではありません。鹿島建設「A⁴CSEL for DAM」 鹿島建設の2024年12月発表
月間コンクリート打設量の記録
鹿島建設は、2022年5月に鳴瀬ダムで月間のコンクリート打設量が過去の国内最高記録の約2倍に達し、記録を更新したと発表しました。同社によれば、それまでの記録は62年間破られていませんでした。これは特定の現場・月に関する同社の報告であり、自動化だけの効果を切り分けた比較試験の結果として示されたものではありません。鹿島建設「A⁴CSEL for DAM」

ブルドーザーの移動距離と燃料消費
鹿島建設のダム向け紹介ページは、鳴瀬ダムでの盛土敷き均しについて、最適化した施工計画により、有人ブルドーザーに比べて走行距離を4分の1に抑え、単位体積当たりの燃料消費を約40～50％削減したとしています。これは同ページが示す鳴瀬ダムの特定作業に関する比較です。別の工種や地形、現場でも同じ削減幅が得られることを意味するものではなく、独立機関による測定値としても提示されていません。鹿島建設「A⁴CSEL for DAM」

2026年には高速道路本線の工事へ
2026年1月、鹿島建設とNEXCO西日本は、京都府内の新名神高速道路工事で自動ブルドーザーと自動振動ローラーを本格活用すると発表しました。両社はこれを、高速道路の本線工事でのA⁴CSEL適用として初めてと説明しています。ダム、造成に続く道路工事への展開は、適用対象が広がっていることを示しますが、現時点で公表されたこの発表から、道路工事全般での生産性や安全性の改善幅を一般化することはできません。鹿島建設・NEXCO西日本の2026年1月共同発表
A⁴CSELの開発史から読み取れること
鹿島建設が公表した歩みは、単一の機械を自動運転にする話から、複数機械の施工工程をまとめて計画・運用する仕組みへと開発の重点が移った過程です。ローラーの操作データ収集を起点に、ダンプトラックやブルドーザーを加え、ダム現場で工程連携を実証。その後、造成地の不規則な施工範囲に合わせた計画や、高速道路本線工事への適用に進みました。
公表された成果の数値は、鹿島建設が報告する現場別の実績として読むのが適切です。異なる現場や他社システムとの統一条件での比較は示されていないため、数値だけからA⁴CSELの普遍的な優位性を断定することはできません。確認できるのは、鹿島建設が長期の現場実証を通じて、対応する機械と工事の種類を段階的に増やしてきたことです。
