On ZTE phones with a pinhole SIM tray, use the supplied SIM eject tool in the small hole on the tray, then gently pull the tray out. The exact tray location, SIM size and card layout vary by model, so check your phone’s manual before inserting or removing a card.
Find the correct SIM tray and eject hole
Start by identifying your ZTE phone’s exact model and checking its manual or tray diagram. ZTE’s Blade S7 Quick Start Guide, Blade S6 Quick Start Guide and GRAND X View 3 User Manual show that tray placement and card arrangements are not the same across all ZTE phones.
Look for the small eject hole that is part of the SIM or card tray. Do not mistake a microphone opening or another hole in the phone’s frame for the tray eject point. If you are unsure which opening is the tray, consult the model diagram rather than testing holes with a pin.

Open the tray and handle the SIM
- Check the model’s power instructions. ZTE’s Blade S6 Quick Start Guide says to turn the phone off before installing or removing a SIM. The GRAND X View 3 manual says that model’s nano-SIM can be installed or removed while the phone is on. Follow the instructions for your own model.
- Insert the eject tool. Place the supplied tray eject tool into the confirmed hole on the SIM tray and press gently until the tray releases. The ZTE guides specify using a tray eject tool.
- Pull the tray out gently. Once it has popped out, draw it straight out without forcing it. If it does not release with normal pressure, stop and check the manual’s diagram.
- Place the card as shown in the manual. Check the required SIM size and orientation. Some trays also accommodate a memory card; the GRAND X View 3 manual, for example, depicts a nano-SIM and an optional microSDXC card. Do not assume another ZTE model uses the same arrangement.
- Reinsert the tray carefully. Keep the card aligned in its tray position and slide the tray back into the phone gently until it is fully seated. Do not force it if it catches.
Choose the right tool and SIM size
Use the supplied eject tool or an appropriate SIM eject tool. The official guides reviewed do not establish a universally safe substitute if the supplied tool is missing. Avoid sharp objects and do not insert anything into an opening unless you have confirmed it belongs to the SIM tray.

Use the SIM type specified in the manual for your phone. The Blade S7 Quick Start Guide warns against using other kinds of SIM or a non-standard micro-SIM or nano-SIM cut from another SIM card, and directs users to obtain a standard SIM from their service provider. That warning is specific to the Blade S7 guide; check your own model’s requirements.
If the phone does not recognize the SIM
First check that the SIM is correctly positioned and the tray is fully seated; ZTE includes reseating the tray in its no-signal/network troubleshooting guidance. Then check whether the SIM is enabled in the phone’s settings. If the issue persists, confirm with your provider that service is active and ask whether any carrier restrictions apply.
