Choose ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS if you want a fast, story-led third-person mech game with native 4K presentation, optional VR features and explicit accessibility additions. Choose ARMORED CORE VI: FIRES OF RUBICON if you want the newer entry in a long-running mech-action series and need the widest console selection. They are not two versions of the same design: M∀RS is an enhanced remaster of a 2000s-era action game, while Armored Core VI is a 2023 installment built from the series’ established mech-game identity.

This comparison separates confirmed features from details that official descriptions do not establish, so you can match each game to your hardware and preferred way of playing.

What each game actually is

M∀RS is an enhanced remaster of The 2nd RUNNER

Konami’s product page identifies ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS as the remastered version of The 2nd RUNNER. The game puts you in control of Jehuty in a third-person presentation. Konami’s launch description calls the action “exhilarating high-speed mech-action combat all in third-person 4K,” which accurately signals its emphasis: a focused, highly mobile action experience rather than a simulation-oriented cockpit game.

#1 Best Overall
BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon (PS5) [video game]
  • Thrilling Boss Battles – Deploy a wide variety of offensive and defensive tactics at close and long range to take down powerful enemy bosses.
  • Dynamic, Omni-directional Battles – Pilot your mech in fast-paced, omni-directional battles, taking advantage of your mech’s mobility both on land and in the air to ensure victory.
  • Customise Your Mech to Your Playstyle – Explore a breadth of playstyles and combat styles by customising your mech’s buildout between missions. Pick and equip your preferred parts via a robust customisation system that can dramatically alter your play strategy, manoeuvrability and battle style as the action intensifies.

The remaster matters because its defining additions are presentation and convenience features around an existing action design. Native 4K output, VR support and extra viewing spaces are part of the package; they do not turn the game into a different genre. If you are interested in the original game’s fast combat but want a modern display option, M∀RS is the more direct match.

Armored Core VI is a new series installment

Bandai Namco’s official site describes ARMORED CORE VI: FIRES OF RUBICON as a new action game built on the series’ mech-game knowledge and FromSoftware’s recent action-game development. Its official description uses the phrase “high-octane mech action.” That establishes the game’s broad identity, but not specific details such as campaign length, exact mission structure, customization limits or difficulty curve.

The practical distinction is age and lineage. Armored Core VI is the current numbered entry that launched in 2023, whereas M∀RS is a 2018 remaster of an earlier title. Someone choosing by release recency or by access to current-generation consoles will therefore arrive at Armored Core VI for reasons that have little to do with which combat style sounds more appealing.

How the combat presentations differ

M∀RS: a fast third-person character-action approach

Konami explicitly identifies three categories of Jehuty’s attacks: melee, ranged attacks and sub-weapons. Those categories tell you what to expect moment to moment: the game is organized around controlling one named orbital frame in a third-person view and switching among offensive tools while moving quickly through encounters.

Armored Core VI Fires of Rubicon - Compatible for PS5 - UK PAL
  • A new action experience from the makers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring
  • Assemble and pilot your own mech
  • 3D manoeuvrability to move freely through three-dimensional fast-paced missions
  • Take on difficult challenges and overwhelm your enemies
  • Please note that although this game is Region Free or Region Unlocked and will work on all systems, this is the international version and may differ from the local version in age rating, labeling or instructions. DLC might not work properly unless proper region is selected.

This structure suits players who want a clearly presented protagonist and a direct action loop. You do not need to decide whether an extensive machine-building system is your main attraction; the official description’s emphasis is on Jehuty’s movement and weapons. The remaster’s optional cockpit viewpoint changes how you see the action, but the standard game remains third-person.

Armored Core VI: series-rooted mech action

Bandai Namco and Steam position Armored Core VI as high-octane mech action that draws on the knowledge of the Armored Core series and FromSoftware’s recent action games. That is enough to identify its audience—players seeking the current form of a long-running mech-action formula—but not enough to make unsupported claims about its exact controls, equipment slots, mission count or challenge level.

If those unverified details are decisive for you, use the official product information and a current platform listing to confirm them before buying. The evidence available here supports a choice based on series identity and platform availability, not a fabricated specification sheet.

What the M∀RS remaster adds beyond the original presentation

Native 4K output

Konami markets M∀RS as a native 4K remaster. That is a display and rendering feature, not a promise that every television, cable or PC configuration will output 4K. Your screen and hardware still need to support the selected resolution, and the exact settings depend on the platform version.

Optional VR content

The remaster supports PlayStation VR and includes a VR cockpit experience. Konami also lists additional VR-oriented content: a hangar, a model viewer and a cinematic theater. These spaces are useful if you enjoy inspecting the machine or revisiting scenes from a more immersive viewpoint, but VR is optional. You can play the core game without a headset.

That distinction is important when comparing the two games. M∀RS has a documented immersive-display feature that Armored Core VI’s cited official descriptions do not list. It does not mean M∀RS is exclusively a VR title, nor does it establish that Armored Core VI lacks every form of headset compatibility in every configuration; it means the supplied official information gives M∀RS the clear VR differentiator.

Convenience and viewing spaces

The hangar, model-viewer and cinematic-theater additions are separate reasons to choose M∀RS if you value presentation extras. They give you places to examine the machine and watch game material outside the normal action flow. The official pages do not assign a separate price to these features, so treat them as part of the edition’s feature set rather than as independently priced content.

Accessibility and onboarding in M∀RS

Very Easy difficulty

Konami’s launch materials list a Very Easy difficulty option. This is a concrete choice for players who want to reduce friction, learn the controls or focus on the story and spectacle. It does not prove that every other setting is easy, and it should not be presented as a guarantee of an effortless campaign.

Training modules and a mini-map

Training modules provide a dedicated way to practice, while the mini-map adds navigation information during play. Together, these options address two common early obstacles—learning the game’s attack vocabulary and keeping track of where you are—without changing the fact that M∀RS is built around fast action.

Optional Pro Mode controls

An optional Pro Mode controller setup is also listed by Konami. Because it is optional, you can retain the standard arrangement if that feels more natural, then test the alternate layout if you want a different way to reach actions during combat. The official announcement does not establish that one layout is universally superior.

Platforms, dates and edition details

Game Platforms listed by official sources Launch information Important qualification
ZONE OF THE ENDERS: The 2nd RUNNER – M∀RS PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam; Konami’s launch materials also describe PlayStation VR support September 4, 2018, in the Americas; September 6, 2018, globally Those are historical launch dates, not proof of current stock or availability in every region.

The M∀RS launch announcement is archived by Konami, and its Americas availability notice is at Konami’s September 2018 announcement. The latter described a limited physical release in the Americas that excluded Brazil according to the initial announcement. That historical statement should not be read as a guarantee that a boxed copy is still in print or easy to find.

For Armored Core VI, Bandai Namco’s availability notice covers the 2023 launch, while the Steam listing supplies the August 24 PC date. KADOKAWA’s standard-edition product information says PC physical versions include a download key. Check the live store page before assuming a physical PC disc, a console disc or a particular edition is available where you live.

Which game fits your situation?

Pick M∀RS if you want the most specific presentation

  • You prefer a third-person game centered on one named mech and a clearly defined set of attack types.
  • Native 4K is a major reason you are revisiting an older action title.
  • You own compatible PlayStation VR hardware and want an optional cockpit viewpoint or the extra hangar, model-viewer and cinematic-theater content.
  • You value a Very Easy setting, training modules, a mini-map or an alternate controller setup.
  • You want to experience an enhanced version of The 2nd RUNNER rather than begin with the newest Armored Core.

Pick Armored Core VI if platform choice comes first

  • You play on Xbox, PlayStation 5 or a current PC and want a title officially listed for that hardware.
  • You specifically want the 2023 entry in the Armored Core series.
  • You are attracted to FromSoftware’s recent action-game lineage and the series’ established mech-game identity.
  • You would rather start with a current installment than a remaster of an earlier game.

Do not choose on claims the official material does not settle

The cited descriptions do not establish a reliable winner for customization depth, mission structure, total playtime, technical performance on your exact PC, or overall difficulty in Armored Core VI. They also do not provide comparable sales figures, review averages or player counts. If one of those factors determines your purchase, consult the game’s current official documentation and platform requirements rather than treating a general marketing description as a detailed specification.

A practical decision process before you buy

  1. Start with your hardware. If you need Xbox support or PlayStation 5 support, Armored Core VI is the straightforward option from the listed platforms. M∀RS is listed for PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam, with PlayStation VR support described in Konami’s materials.
  2. Decide whether VR is a feature or a requirement. M∀RS can be played without VR. Select it for the optional cockpit and related viewing content only if those extras appeal to you; do not assume they are mandatory.
  3. Choose the combat framing you prefer. Select M∀RS for documented melee, ranged and sub-weapon play around Jehuty in third person. Select Armored Core VI for the newer, series-rooted high-octane mech-action identity described by Bandai Namco and Steam.
  4. Check the learning aids you need. M∀RS has named options—Very Easy, training modules, a mini-map and Pro Mode controls. The supplied official descriptions do not provide an equivalent list for Armored Core VI, so verify its current options separately if accessibility is decisive.
  5. Verify the live listing. Compare the regional digital and physical listings for platform, language, edition, price and stock. The 2018 and 2023 launch notices cannot guarantee what your storefront sells in 2026.

Buying and availability cautions

Neither game can be declared the better value from the available evidence. M∀RS’s physical release was described as limited in the Americas, and regional exclusions were part of the original announcement. Armored Core VI has standard-edition information from KADOKAWA, including a PC download key for physical PC versions, but the exact format can vary by market. Treat every current price, discount and stock statement as storefront-specific and time-sensitive.

For a digital purchase, confirm that the store page names your intended platform before checkout. For a used or boxed copy, check whether the package contains a disc or a download key and whether that key has already been redeemed. These checks matter more than a historic launch label when the games are several years apart.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you

Confirmed differences

  • M∀RS is a remaster of The 2nd RUNNER; Armored Core VI is a new Armored Core installment.
  • M∀RS has documented third-person combat using melee, ranged and sub-weapons.
  • M∀RS has native 4K, optional VR content and the named training and accessibility features from Konami’s launch material.
  • Armored Core VI is officially listed across PlayStation, Xbox and PC platforms.
  • The two games launched in different periods: M∀RS in 2018 and Armored Core VI in 2023.

Questions that require additional checking

  • Current prices, discounts, regional stock and language options.
  • Detailed PC hardware requirements and performance for your particular graphics card and processor.
  • Exact customization systems, mission counts, campaign length and difficulty balance in Armored Core VI.
  • Whether a specific boxed edition is available in your country and what it contains.

Keeping those boundaries clear prevents a comparison from turning broad publisher descriptions into promises they do not make. Use the official pages linked above for the facts that are stable, then use your regional storefront for the details that change.

Verdict: choose the design, not the logo

M∀RS is the better recommendation for a player who wants a compact, highly presented third-person mech experience with a remaster’s 4K treatment, optional VR cockpit content and clearly documented onboarding tools. Its appeal is specific: fast Jehuty-centered action and extras designed around viewing and immersion.

Armored Core VI is the better recommendation for a player who wants the current Armored Core entry and the flexibility to play on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or PC. Its official positioning emphasizes the series’ mech-game heritage and FromSoftware’s modern action development, while leaving detailed mechanical comparisons to the game’s own documentation.

If both descriptions appeal to you, let hardware decide first, then use VR and accessibility preferences as the tie-breakers. There is no evidence here for a universal winner; there are two legitimate answers to “Which mecha game should you play?” depending on whether you want M∀RS’s remastered, presentation-led focus or Armored Core VI’s newer, broader-platform series entry.
