Buy the PS4 edition if you want the clearest documented route into VR or a console copy; choose PC/Steam if you prefer playing on a computer and are willing to verify current hardware and headset support yourself. Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS is a remaster of the earlier game, not a new sequel. It adds a visual and audio overhaul, a first-person cockpit presentation for VR, and several convenience and training options. PlayStation VR features require both a PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera on PS4. The game runs on PS5 through backward compatibility, but Sony warns that some PS4 features may be absent and requires a camera adaptor if you intend to use the Camera.
What you are buying
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS is Konami’s remastered version of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. Cygames describes the project as being based on the HD Collection version, with an overhaul of visuals and additional VR material. That distinction matters: M∀RS is the enhanced edition of an existing action game, not a separate sequel with a new campaign.
Konami describes native 4K visual treatment, remastered visual and audio elements, and surround sound. The normal presentation remains third-person action around Jehuty, while VR changes the viewpoint to a first-person cockpit. The same core game is therefore suitable for two different kinds of buyer: someone who wants a conventional console or PC action game, and someone who specifically wants to sit inside Jehuty and view the battle from the cockpit.

There is no universally superior edition. The PS4 version has the most explicit VR requirements and the only documented physical release. PC is the flexible choice for people already invested in a gaming computer, but the official material available here does not provide a current system-requirements table or a complete headset-compatibility matrix. Do not infer compatibility from the fact that the game appears on Steam; read the current listing for your operating system, graphics hardware and intended headset.

How M∀RS differs from the original release
Remastered presentation
The remaster updates the visual and audio presentation rather than replacing the story with a new one. Konami highlights native 4K visual treatment, remastered visuals and audio, and surround sound. “Native 4K” is the publisher’s description of the visual treatment; your actual output still depends on the console, display and selected settings.
Optional Pro Mode controls
Konami announced Pro Mode controls that make sub-weapon selection faster. This is an input option for players who want a more immediate way to cycle or select weapons; it does not represent a separate campaign or character class.
Very Easy difficulty
A Very Easy setting is included for players who want a more forgiving route through the action. It is particularly useful if you are approaching the game for its story, the remastered presentation or the VR material rather than looking for the toughest possible combat challenge.
Training modules and a mini-map
Training modules provide a place to learn the controls and combat systems, while a mini-map supplies additional navigation information during play. These additions address two common barriers in a fast, three-dimensional action game: learning the controls and maintaining situational awareness.
Extra VR content
The announced VR additions include a three-dimensional hangar where you can interact with Jehuty, a 3D model viewer, and a cinematic theater that unlocks after you complete the game. These are separate from the main action presentation, so buying the game for VR does not mean every minute is spent in the cockpit.

What VR actually does
PS4 hardware requirements
The PlayStation Store states that PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera are required for the VR features on the PS4 edition. Neither accessory should be assumed to be included with the game. If you do not own both pieces of hardware, you can still buy and play the conventional game, but you should not expect to access the PS4 VR modes without them.
- PlayStation 4 copy of M∀RS.
- PlayStation VR headset.
- PlayStation Camera.
- A play area in which the Camera can see the headset and controller position reliably.
The Store also warns that VR may cause motion sickness for some players. Start with short sessions, stop when discomfort begins, and do not treat persistence through nausea as a requirement for using the feature.

Konami describes standard 4K action as third-person and VR as a first-person cockpit presentation. In practical terms, the VR mode is intended to make you feel positioned inside Jehuty rather than watching the robot from behind. This is a viewpoint and presentation change, not a claim that the underlying game becomes a different story campaign.
VR and two-player play
Cygames identifies Versus as the two-player mode and notes that the VR version does not support two players. If local or versus multiplayer is important to you, plan to use the non-VR presentation. Do not purchase the game expecting to run the two-player mode from inside the headset.
Using the PS4 version on PS5
The PlayStation Store lists the game as a PS4 title that is playable on PS5. Sony’s listing also warns that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5, so “playable” should not be read as an unconditional promise that every peripheral and mode behaves exactly as it does on a PS4.

What you need for PS5 VR
If you plan to use the PS4 VR features on a PS5, the PlayStation Camera needs Sony’s Camera adaptor. The adaptor is in addition to the Camera itself; buying only a headset does not satisfy the Store’s requirement. Sony recommends using a DualShock 4 for the best PS VR experience on PS5. Treat that recommendation as a practical compatibility precaution rather than assuming every PS5 controller feature is equivalent in VR.
- Confirm that your copy is the PS4 version and that your PS5 has the latest available system software.
- Connect the PlayStation VR headset using its processor and cables, following the hardware’s setup instructions.
- Connect the PlayStation Camera through the required PS5 Camera adaptor.
- Pair a DualShock 4 if you want Sony’s recommended PS5 VR control setup.
- Launch M∀RS in the conventional mode first, then test the VR feature in a clear, comfortable play area.
Because Sony’s listing allows for absent PS4 features, check the current compatibility information if a particular peripheral or mode is decisive to your purchase. The safest PS VR assumption is that a native PS4 setup offers the least ambiguity; the PS5 route is viable but involves the adaptor and the stated caveat.
What to verify before choosing PC/Steam
Konami names PC and Steam as supported platforms, and the launch announcement identifies Steam as the PC distribution route. However, the official pages reviewed for this guide do not establish current minimum or recommended PC specifications, supported operating-system versions, graphics-card targets, frame-rate expectations or a complete list of compatible VR headsets.
That missing information is a buying checkpoint, not evidence that the PC version is unusable. Before purchasing, open the current Steam listing and compare its system requirements with your computer. If you intend to use VR, check the headset requirements and any software or runtime notes shown there as well. A computer that runs ordinary third-person play may not automatically provide a satisfactory VR experience.
- Check the listed operating system and 64-bit requirements against your PC.
- Compare the stated processor, memory and graphics requirements with your machine.
- Confirm available storage and whether the listing requires additional platform software.
- For VR, verify that your exact headset model is listed or explicitly supported.
- Check whether the listing distinguishes ordinary display play from VR performance requirements.
- Review the current regional store page for price, refund eligibility and any edition differences before checkout.
These checks are more reliable than using an old forum post or assuming that every Steam-compatible headset will work. The available publisher material confirms the platform, but it does not supply a substitute for the current storefront’s hardware information.

Physical PS4 copies: what the announcement proves
Konami’s May 15, 2018 launch announcement gave the Americas a September 4, 2018 release date and stated that the game would release globally on September 6, 2018. The same announcement described a limited-time physical PS4 release with a holographic cover and an embroidered patch packed in the box. The promotion was described for the Americas and excluded Brazil.
This establishes that a physical PS4 edition existed at launch. It does not establish that sealed copies are still in stock, that a particular seller’s disc is new, that the patch or holographic cover is present, or that packaging extras were included in every territory. When considering a used or collectible copy, verify all of the following with the seller:
- Whether the disc is the correct regional release for your console and account.
- Whether the case, cover and any advertised patch are actually included.
- Disc condition and whether the seller accepts returns.
- The total price, shipping and any import costs.
- Whether the listing is for the game itself rather than only promotional packaging.
Current prices and inventory change constantly, so neither the 2018 announcement nor the existence of a physical release should be treated as a live price quote.

Choose PS4 when VR certainty is the priority
Buy the PS4 edition when you already own, or specifically plan to buy, PlayStation VR and a PlayStation Camera. The Store gives you a clear accessory requirement, and the console route avoids the unresolved PC headset-compatibility questions. It is also the natural choice if you want a physical disc and accept that current availability may be limited.

PC is a sensible choice when your game library, display and controls are centered on Steam. It may also be preferable if you want to use a computer monitor or television without adding Sony hardware. Make the decision only after checking the current system requirements and, for VR, the exact headset support. The platform listing alone is not a performance guarantee.

Choose the conventional presentation when multiplayer matters
If you want Versus two-player play, plan around the non-VR presentation because Cygames says the VR version does not support two players. You can still use the remaster’s visual and control enhancements without selecting the cockpit viewpoint.
Choose based on comfort, not only novelty
VR adds the cockpit perspective and gallery-style material, but the PlayStation Store warns that it can cause motion sickness. If you are sensitive to VR discomfort, the standard third-person mode is the lower-risk way to experience the remaster. You do not need a headset to play the main game.
First-day setup checklists
PS4 standard play
- Install the PS4 game and allow any available system or game update to finish.
- Start in the standard third-person presentation so you can learn movement and combat without adding headset setup.
- Use the training modules to become familiar with controls and sub-weapons.
- Enable Pro Mode if faster sub-weapon selection suits your controller habits.
- Turn on or use the mini-map when navigation information is useful.
PS4 VR play
- Confirm that the PlayStation VR headset and Camera are connected; both are required for the PS4 VR features.
- Clear the Camera’s view of your seating or standing position and keep cables out of your movement path.
- Begin with a short session and stop if you experience nausea, dizziness or eye strain.
- Try the cockpit presentation after you are comfortable with the basic controls.
- Remember that Versus two-player play is not supported in the VR version.
PS5 using the PS4 edition
- Confirm that you have the PS4 game and a compatible PS5 setup.
- Obtain and connect the required Camera adaptor if you intend to use the PlayStation Camera.
- Use a DualShock 4 for Sony’s recommended PS5 PS VR arrangement.
- Expect that some PS4 features may be absent, as stated in the Store listing.
- Test the specific VR mode you care about before investing in additional accessories.
PC/Steam
- Open the current Steam listing and record its operating-system, processor, memory, graphics and storage requirements.
- Compare those requirements with your computer rather than relying on the platform name alone.
- If using VR, verify your exact headset and any required runtime or controller notes.
- Install the game and test ordinary display play before troubleshooting VR.
- Keep the Steam purchase and refund conditions in mind if your hardware is close to the listed minimum.
Troubleshooting buying and compatibility problems
The game launches, but VR is unavailable on PS4
Check the two requirements stated by the PlayStation Store first: the PlayStation VR headset and PlayStation Camera must both be present and connected. Confirm that the Camera can see the headset and controller, then restart the console and reconnect the headset processor. If you are on PS5, verify that the Camera is connected through Sony’s required adaptor and remember the warning that some PS4 features may be absent.

You bought a PS4 copy for PS5 and expected every feature
The Store describes the title as playable on PS5, not as a fully native PS5 edition. Recheck the exact mode or peripheral that is missing against Sony’s compatibility notes. For PS VR, use the Camera adaptor and the recommended DualShock 4 arrangement before concluding that the game itself is defective.
PC play works, but PC VR does not
Reopen the current Steam listing and verify the headset model, operating-system version and graphics requirements. The platform announcement confirms a PC/Steam version but does not provide a universal headset matrix. Update the relevant headset software, check that the game is being launched in the intended VR environment, and compare your hardware with the listed requirements. If the listing does not name your headset, compatibility is not established.
A physical listing does not include the advertised extras
Konami’s promotional announcement described a limited-time Americas package, not a guarantee for every copy sold later or in every territory. Ask the seller for photographs of the actual cover, disc and patch, and treat missing extras as a condition or edition discrepancy rather than assuming they were standard worldwide.
VR causes discomfort
Stop the session when symptoms begin. Return to the standard third-person mode, shorten future sessions and keep the play area comfortably visible between attempts. The Store’s motion-sickness warning is a reason to treat VR as optional, not a reason to force yourself to continue.
Bottom-line buying checklist
- Need the most clearly documented VR path? Choose PS4 with PlayStation VR and PlayStation Camera.
- Using PS5? Add the Camera adaptor, prefer DualShock 4 for PS VR, and account for possible missing PS4 features.
- Want a disc? Look for the PS4 release, but verify region, condition, current stock and included packaging.
- Prefer PC? Buy through Steam after checking the live system requirements and your exact VR headset support.
- Want two-player Versus? Use the non-VR presentation because VR does not support two players.
- Want the cockpit novelty but are sensitive to motion sickness? Treat VR as an optional mode and keep the standard third-person game as your main route.
M∀RS is best understood as one remastered game with two presentation paths. PS4 offers the clearest documented accessory and compatibility information, while PC/Steam offers a computer-based alternative that requires more pre-purchase verification. Your ideal version follows the hardware you already own, whether you need a physical copy, and whether cockpit VR or two-player conventional play is the higher priority.
