For a small business choosing email on its own domain, the decision turns on three things: Zoho Mail has a limited free plan and mail-only or office-suite options, while Hostinger’s advertised email rates are tied to long prepaid terms. Compare the total charge and renewal, the storage and protocol support each user needs, and whether a broader collaboration suite is useful—not just the headline monthly equivalent.
At a glance: which service fits your needs?
| Need | Better starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Try branded email at no charge | Zoho Mail, if eligible | Its free plan supports up to five users on one custom domain, with 5 GB of mail storage per user. It is available only in select data centers and excludes IMAP, POP, and Active Sync. |
| Use a desktop mail app | Compare paid plans on both services | Zoho’s protocol exclusions apply to its free plan, not automatically to every paid plan. Confirm that the exact plan supports the protocols and apps your team uses. |
| Get email without paying for a broader office suite | Compare standalone email plans | Hostinger’s offer is positioned as hosted email; Zoho sells both email-only plans and Workplace bundles with collaboration apps. |
| Know the precise cost over time | Compare checkout totals and renewals | Hostinger’s displayed examples require upfront payment for a long term. Zoho offers paid plan choices with annual and monthly billing labels; prices depend on country and billing choice. |
| Choose based on reliability | Neither can be declared the winner from the available evidence | Both vendors publish a 99.9% uptime guarantee, but that is not independent comparative uptime or deliverability testing. |
What do the plans include?
Hostinger: standalone email tiers
Hostinger’s support documentation lists three paid standalone tiers. The table below uses those technical limits rather than conflicting figures shown on promotional plan cards. Limits may change; Hostinger directs customers to their account dashboard for current values. Hostinger’s email limits documentation was updated in 2026.
| Standalone tier | Storage per mailbox | Daily inbound and outbound message limit per mailbox | Forwarders per mailbox | Aliases per mailbox |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business Starter | 5 GB | 1,000 | 5 | 5 |
| Business Standard | 20 GB | 3,000 | 20 | 10 |
| Business Premium | 50 GB | 3,000 | 50 | 50 |
The vendor’s product page also advertises migration, access through apps and devices, spam, virus and phishing protection, audit logs, encryption, and 24/7 support. Feature availability and limits should be checked for the specific plan and account. Hostinger’s business email page advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee; that is a vendor statement, not an independently measured comparison.

Zoho lists a free plan for up to five users and one custom domain, with 5 GB of mail storage per user. It is restricted to select data centers and excludes IMAP, POP, and Active Sync. That makes it unsuitable for a team that must use one of those protocols unless it selects a paid plan that supports the required access method.
Paid Mail Lite options list 5 GB or 10 GB of storage, while Mail Premium lists 50 GB. Zoho also offers Workplace tiers that bundle email with collaboration products and include different storage and features. Its comparison page lists migration tools and tier-dependent administration, retention, attachment, and collaboration features. Check the current plan table for the exact package and protocol support before purchase. Zoho Mail’s pricing comparison displays monthly and annual billing labels, but current country-specific prices should be confirmed on the pricing page.
How should you compare the real cost?
Do not treat a long-term promotional monthly equivalent as a month-to-month rate. Hostinger’s official page, accessed in 2026, showed Starter at $0.35 per mailbox per month equivalent on a 48-month term, with renewal at $1.59 per month for a 48-month term. It also showed Premium Business Email at $1.56 per month equivalent with five mailboxes for the price of four, renewing at $3.99 per month for 48 months; a separate Premium display showed one mailbox at $1.95 per month equivalent with the same renewal figure. The page says plans are paid upfront, and offers can vary by locale and promotion. Treat these as page examples, not universal prices.
Rank #2
Zoho’s pricing page offers free and paid choices, with annual and monthly billing labels. Because its current price depends on country and billing choice, compare the checkout amount for the same number of users and the same billing term rather than assuming that a displayed rate is available in your region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Count the mailboxes you actually need now, including whether any team members need separate accounts.
- For each candidate plan, record the amount charged today, the length of the initial term, and the renewal charge and term.
- Compare total cost across the same period and user count. Include any additional storage or suite features you would genuinely purchase.
- Check the provider’s checkout page for your country before committing; displayed offers and availability can differ by locale.
Will the mail work with your email apps?
The most important protocol distinction established here is Zoho’s free-plan restriction: IMAP, POP, and Active Sync are excluded. Do not extend that restriction to Zoho’s paid tiers; instead, verify support for the exact paid plan and client you intend to use.
Rank #3
Hostinger says its email works with common apps, including Outlook, Apple Mail, and Gmail, but the promotional product page is not a complete protocol configuration guide. Check the current setup instructions for the specific app and device before migration. If a team depends on a desktop client, mobile sync, or a particular mail workflow, treat confirmed compatibility as a purchase requirement rather than an assumption.
How much mailbox storage and sending capacity do you need?
Match mailbox space to real usage: a mostly text-based inbox can have different needs from one that keeps years of large attachments. Hostinger’s documented standalone tiers provide 5, 20, or 50 GB per mailbox. Zoho lists 5 GB or 10 GB for Mail Lite options and 50 GB for Mail Premium; Workplace storage differs by tier. Confirm whether the quoted allowance is per user and whether more storage is available at an extra cost.
Rank #4
Hostinger’s support table gives daily inbound and outbound limits per mailbox: 1,000 for Business Starter and 3,000 for Business Standard and Business Premium. These are operational limits, not a recommendation to use hosted business email for bulk marketing campaigns. Hostinger says its limits may change, so verify the account dashboard for current limits. Zoho’s plan comparison lists attachment and other features by tier; consult that table for the plan under consideration.

If your team needs hosted email and already has separate tools for documents and collaboration, compare email-only plans: Hostinger’s standalone business email tiers and Zoho Mail Lite or Premium. If you want a wider suite, price Zoho Workplace against the tools it could replace, and compare the storage and collaboration features included in the selected tier. A mail-only plan and a Workplace bundle are not equivalent simply because both include email.

What should you expect from migration and administration?
Both providers describe migration tools, but those feature claims do not establish how fast or difficult a move will be for a particular mailbox. Before choosing, identify your current provider, mailbox sizes, DNS changes, and whether you need a staged migration or a short cutover window.
- Check that the source provider and the data you need to move are supported by the destination’s migration process.
- Estimate mailbox volume and decide whether calendars, contacts, and other data must move alongside email.
- Plan domain DNS changes and the point at which new mail should start arriving at the destination.
- Confirm how administrators will manage users, aliases, forwarding, retention, and security controls on the exact plan.
Hostinger advertises aliases, forwarding, audit logs, and security filtering. Zoho’s administration, retention, and migration features vary by plan. Confirm that the controls your organization needs are included before selecting a tier.
Can either provider be called more reliable?
Not on the evidence available for this comparison. Both providers advertise a 99.9% uptime guarantee, but vendor guarantees are not the same as independently observed uptime, and they do not establish which provider delivers more reliably to recipients. No comparable independent deliverability or uptime results are established here. Avoid choosing on a claimed reliability advantage without evidence that measures both services under comparable conditions.
Quick Recap
Which should a small business choose?
- Start with Zoho’s free plan only if your organization is in an eligible data center, needs no more than five users on one domain, and can work without IMAP, POP, or Active Sync.
- Choose between paid plans by matching storage and client compatibility to each user’s needs, then comparing the same user count and term.
- Consider Zoho Workplace when its included collaboration tools are useful; do not pay for a bundle merely because it has more features.
- For Hostinger, judge the upfront commitment and renewal together. Do not base the decision on its monthly equivalent alone.
- Before moving mail, verify migration support for your source and plan DNS and cutover requirements.
