Zenzap, a mobile-first workplace messenger with built-in AI agents, emerged from stealth on October 14, 2026, positioning itself as a governed alternative to WhatsApp for frontline teams. Its agents can search work context and execute workflows through connected tools, while administrators control permissions and approvals.

What Zenzap raised and when

TechCrunch reported that Zenzap has raised $44 million in total funding. Calcalist’s account breaks that total into an $11 million seed round in 2022 and a $33 million Series A that closed in August 2025.

Round Amount Timing Reported detail
Seed $11 million 2022 Reported by Calcalist
Series A $33 million Closed August 2025 Reported by Calcalist
Total $44 million Reported October 2026 TechCrunch total; Calcalist’s round-by-round breakdown

Backers named in the reports include Bessemer Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, The Garage, Wix President Nir Zohar and former EY general manager Yoram Tietz.

Founders

CEO Guy Weiss, CTO Jonatan Bien and COO Noam Neumann founded Zenzap in 2022. Weiss previously bootstrapped the e-commerce marketing company StuccoMedia, founded it in 2012 and sold it to Market Group in 2015.

What Zenzap is

Zenzap is a private, phone-oriented workplace messenger. Employees and AI agents can share conversations, documents, context and tasks in the same workspace, with connections to business software. The design targets organizations whose staff coordinate work on phones, including people who never adopted Slack-style collaboration tools.

Zenzap’s site currently says that more than 10,000 teams rely on the service daily and that it offers more than 400 connectors. Those are company-stated figures viewed on October 14, 2026, not independently audited totals. Calcalist also reported more than 40,000 automated workflows.

How the AI agents work

The agents are intended to move beyond answering questions. Zenzap says they can analyze information, flag issues, automate workflows, take actions, coordinate people and workflows, and learn from conversations.

Typical agent lifecycle

  1. An administrator or employee creates an agent for a defined business task.
  2. The agent receives access to selected conversations, documents or connected applications.
  3. It monitors the relevant context, identifies a trigger such as a request or status change, and proposes or performs the configured action.
  4. People can coordinate around the result in the same chat rather than moving the work to a separate ticketing or scheduling tool.

Bessemer says an employee can create an agent in under 90 seconds without code or formal training. That is an investor description, not an independently measured setup time.

Controls for administrators

  • Choose who is allowed to add agents.
  • Define what each agent can do.
  • Limit which chats an agent can access.
  • Require human approval before an action is taken.

Those controls are the basis for Zenzap’s claim that familiar chat can be combined with workplace governance. The reports do not establish that every connector has identical permissions or approval behavior, so buyers would need to check those details for each integration.

Why Zenzap says WhatsApp is not enough for work

Founder Guy Weiss told TechCrunch: “You can’t use WhatsApp or iMessage within a workplace with the AI agent on top of it because it doesn’t comply with IT. So that’s off the table. You can’t implement Slack and Microsoft Teams because they were not built for this day-to-day use case for mobile-first that is meant for average users.”

The argument is not that Zenzap replaces personal messaging for every situation. It is that a company needs ownership of work accounts, employee offboarding, searchable work context, permissioned automation and an auditable approval path—capabilities that are difficult to layer onto consumer chat. Zenzap is also betting that hourly and distributed workers will use a phone-first interface more readily than a desktop-oriented collaboration suite.

Decision area Zenzap’s stated position What the reports establish about alternatives
Frontline usability Designed for mobile-first, day-to-day coordination Weiss says Slack and Microsoft Teams were not built for this specific mobile-first audience
Company control Administrators control agent creation, access, actions and approvals The cited reports do not detail equivalent AI-agent controls for consumer WhatsApp
Work context Chats, documents, tasks and connected tools share one workspace Consumer-chat equivalence is not established in the reports
Automation Agents can trigger workflows and take actions through connectors No like-for-like workflow comparison or benchmark was reported
Economics Free tier plus a paid plan beginning at $51 per month for up to 20 users Alternative-service prices were not part of the reported figures

Features and pricing

Free tier

TechCrunch reports that the free tier includes group chats, direct messages, task management, calendar integration, AI-powered voice chat and AI-powered search.

Paid plan

Paid plans reportedly start at $51 per month for up to 20 users. The reported plan adds voice and video calls, smart task sorting, task templates, higher file-storage limits, workspace-wide AI search and the ability to turn messages into tasks. The cited coverage does not specify whether that starting price is promotional, annualized or subject to regional taxes.

Usage-based AI charges

AI agents for workflow automation and AI-assisted voice-note and call transcription use a credit-based pricing system. Public reports reviewed for this launch did not state the credit allowance, overage rates or a per-action price, so organizations should request those figures before estimating total cost.

Who uses Zenzap

Zenzap says it targets hospitality, construction, healthcare and fast-food businesses, especially teams that organize work by phone. TechCrunch lists FedEx, Dollar General, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Casey’s and Regal as customers. It also reports that branches of IHOP and McDonald’s use Zenzap for shift coordination and supply discussions. Customer use can vary by branch or business unit; the reports do not establish company-wide deployment for every named organization.

What the funding will support

TechCrunch reported about 50 employees across the United States, Tel Aviv and Europe, while Ynet reported 45 employees on the same day. The safest reading is a contemporaneous range of 45 to 50 people, not a definitive current headcount.

Zenzap says the new capital will fund product development, sales expansion and international growth. TechCrunch reports plans to hire in product and research and development. That investment will determine whether the company can broaden its connector network, support larger customers and maintain the governance controls its pitch depends on.

What prospective customers should verify

  • Which of the advertised 400-plus connectors are available in your region and plan.
  • Whether each agent action can be restricted to read-only, approval-required or fully automatic modes.
  • How employee departure, device loss and contractor access are handled.
  • Whether workspace-wide search includes historical imports and what retention controls apply.
  • How AI credits are consumed by agents, voice notes and calls, including overage billing.
  • Whether the $51 monthly starting plan fits your user count and storage needs.
  • Whether frontline staff can complete the required tasks from phones without a separate desktop workflow.

Zenzap’s proposition is therefore narrower and more practical than a universal WhatsApp replacement: it is a managed, mobile workplace layer that combines chat with tasks and AI-driven actions. Its $44 million funding gives that approach room to expand, but the value for any employer will depend on connector coverage, governance settings and the unreported details of usage-based AI costs.
