For the smoothest Zenless Zone Zero experience, first confirm that your device meets HoYoverse’s published requirements, then reduce Crowd Density when performance drops. On PC, keep DX11 for broad compatibility; use DX12, ray tracing, super resolution and frame generation only when your GPU, VRAM, Windows settings and drivers support them. Mobile players should compare their chipset, RAM, operating system and free storage with the official baseline, because HoYoverse has not published a universal Android or iPhone graphics preset.
Start with eligibility, not graphics sliders
A graphics option cannot compensate for hardware below the game’s supported baseline. HoYoverse’s requirements are publisher thresholds, not a promise of a particular frame rate at a specific resolution. Your result will also depend on resolution, background applications, thermals, drivers and the age of the device.
PC requirements published by HoYoverse
The official pre-download notice dated July 2, 2024 lists the following Windows requirements. It specifies Windows 10 64-bit or later and DirectX 11.1 or later.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors| Category | Minimum listed | Recommended listed |

| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM or more |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 or better |
| Operating system and API | Windows 10 64-bit or later; DirectX 11.1 or later | |
| Storage | 57 GB for installation, plus another 58 GB during decompression | |
Plan for the decompression requirement rather than checking only the final installed size. HoYoverse also recommends installing the PC client on an SSD for the best gaming experience. That recommendation concerns installation and loading behavior; it is not a claim that an SSD raises rendered frame rate.

Chipset names are more useful than a phone’s marketing tier: two devices with similar prices can have different sustained performance and cooling. Keep the stated free-space margin available before downloading, because a nearly full device can also complicate updates.
The first setting to change when performance is uneven
Lower Crowd Density
Version 3.1 added Options → Graphics → Crowd Density. HoYoverse says adjusting it can reduce device performance pressure and improve smoothness. Start by lowering Crowd Density when busy streets or crowded scenes cause hitching, then play the same area for several minutes before changing another option.

The announcement does not define universal low, medium or high values, nor does it promise a specific frame-rate gain. Treat the control as a workload adjustment rather than a guaranteed benchmark result. If lowering it does not help, continue with the platform-specific checks below.
PC graphics modes: DX11 or DX12
Use DX11 for compatibility
DX11 remains the more compatible mode. It is the sensible default for a GPU outside HoYoverse’s DX12 list, for a system that has unexplained crashes, or when you value predictable startup over optional rendering features.

Use DX12 only on supported hardware
HoYoverse’s PC visual FAQ dated July 29, 2026 lists DX12 support for Nvidia 20 Series or newer graphics cards with RT Cores, and AMD Radeon RX 7000 or RX 9000 Series cards. Eligible players see a DX12 activation option beneath Start Game in the launcher. Uncheck that option to return to DX11.
The same FAQ recommends Nvidia driver 591.86 or later and AMD driver 26.6.1 or later for this feature. Driver requirements can change, so verify the current FAQ and driver release before treating those versions as permanent. On first launch in DX12, shader compilation runs automatically. HoYoverse says this may cause brief stutters and is normal. Let compilation finish rather than judging the mode from the first few minutes.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If compilation is interrupted, use the launcher’s Repair Tool to restart it. Switch back to DX11 if DX12 continues to stutter after compilation, crashes, or behaves worse on your particular system; feature access does not automatically mean higher performance.
Ray tracing: a costly visual option
Ray tracing is optional and limited in scope. The FAQ says it currently applies to city scenes and selected combat scenes; elsewhere, the game reverts to its default global illumination. It therefore changes particular views rather than every frame.
Hardware and VRAM guidance
Ray tracing requires an Nvidia 20 Series or newer GPU with RT Cores and at least 8 GB of VRAM. HoYoverse’s resolution guidance is:

These are FAQ recommendations, not independent frame-rate tests. A card meeting the VRAM number can still be limited by its shader performance, processor, cooling or resolution scaling. Enable ray tracing at Options → Graphics → Advanced → Ray Tracing only after checking both GPU family and VRAM.

HoYoverse recommends DLSS or FSR Super Resolution with ray tracing to retain smoother gameplay. If frame pacing worsens, disable ray tracing first; it removes the heaviest optional workload without changing your base device eligibility.
Super resolution and frame generation
Super Resolution choices
Supported Nvidia 20 Series or later GPUs with RT Cores can use DLSS and FSR3 Super Resolution. AMD RX 7000 and RX 9000 series support FSR4 Super Resolution. Open Options → Display → Advanced → Super Resolution and choose a quality level that balances image clarity and performance.
When Super Resolution is enabled, Anti-Aliasing and Rendering cannot be adjusted. Use the Super Resolution Quality Level instead of trying to tune those locked controls. If your GPU is not in the supported families, leave the feature unavailable and use the normal rendering path.
Frame-generation support by GPU
| Frame-generation mode | Supported hardware or software condition |
|---|---|
| DLSS Frame Generation | Nvidia 40 Series or newer |
| DLSS Multi-Frame Generation | Nvidia 50 Series or newer; driver 595.97 or later |
| FSR3 Frame Generation | Nvidia 20 Series or newer with RT Cores |
| FSR4 Frame Generation | AMD RX 7000 or RX 9000 series; Windows 11 required for the listed AMD support |
Frame generation creates additional displayed frames; it does not make a weak GPU render the underlying game simulation as quickly. Use it only after the base game feels responsive, and watch for latency or uneven frame pacing.

Required Windows setup
- Open Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics.
- Turn on Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling.
- Restart Windows. The restart is required before enabling frame generation in the game.
- In Zenless Zone Zero, open Options → Graphics → Advanced → Frame Generation and select a supported mode.
- Turn V-Sync off and set the in-game FPS option to Unlimited or 60, which HoYoverse recommends for frame generation.
If performance becomes worse, first confirm that Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling is still enabled and that you restarted after changing it. If the mode remains unstable, disable frame generation and reassess the base render settings.
A practical PC setup sequence
- Confirm your processor, RAM, GPU, Windows version, DirectX support and free storage against the published PC table.
- Install the client on an SSD if available, leaving room for the 57 GB installation and 58 GB decompression requirement.
- Start in DX11, especially on hardware not listed for DX12 or when troubleshooting.
- Use the game’s native display settings first and lower Crowd Density if crowded scenes hitch.
- If your GPU qualifies, test DX12 and allow its first shader compilation to finish. Use the Repair Tool if compilation is interrupted.
- Add Super Resolution when supported, selecting its Quality Level rather than attempting to change locked Anti-Aliasing or Rendering controls.
- Enable ray tracing only when your GPU and VRAM meet the resolution guidance; pair it with DLSS or FSR Super Resolution.
- Enable frame generation last, after configuring Windows scheduling, restarting, disabling V-Sync and choosing Unlimited or 60 FPS.
Change one major feature at a time. That makes it possible to identify whether a hitch comes from shader compilation, ray tracing, upscaling, frame generation or scene density.
What mobile players can and cannot tune confidently
HoYoverse publishes mobile eligibility requirements but the cited official material does not provide current Android or iOS graphics presets, slider values, device-by-device frame targets, temperature limits or battery trade-offs. Do not infer a universal “best” mobile recipe from a desktop menu or from a phone’s chipset name alone.
Check an Android or HarmonyOS device
- Verify Snapdragon 855, Dimensity 1200 or Kirin 990 as the minimum class, or Snapdragon 888, Dimensity 8200 or Kirin 9000 or better for the recommended class.
- Confirm at least 8 GB RAM.
- Confirm Android 11, HarmonyOS 4 or later.
- Reserve at least 20 GB of available storage.
Check an iPhone or iPad
- Minimum: iPhone XS or later, or an iPad with A12 and 4 GB RAM.
- Recommended: iPhone 11 Pro or later, or an iPad with A13 Bionic or better and 4 GB RAM.
- Confirm iOS 14 or later and 26 GB available storage.
For a phone that meets only the minimum, begin with the game’s lowest available graphics choices and reduce visual quality when the device becomes hot or frame pacing deteriorates. Because HoYoverse has not documented a single mobile preset or guaranteed FPS for these devices, judge changes using a repeatable play session rather than a promised number. Close demanding background apps, keep adequate free storage and avoid drawing conclusions from a short cold-start session; sustained mobile performance can change as the device heats.
Common problems and targeted fixes
Stutter only on the first DX12 launch
Initial shader compilation is expected. Allow it to complete. If it was interrupted, run the launcher Repair Tool and let compilation restart. Persistent stutter afterward is a reason to return to DX11.

Ray tracing causes severe drops
Check VRAM and resolution against the 8 GB/1080p, 12 GB/1440p and 16 GB/2160p guidance. Disable ray tracing or lower the output resolution, then use DLSS or FSR Super Resolution if your GPU supports it.
Frame generation is unavailable or slower
Confirm that your GPU family appears in the supported list, enable Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling, restart Windows, disable V-Sync and use Unlimited or 60 FPS. If the game still feels worse, turn frame generation off.
Mobile performance declines during play
The official requirements do not guarantee a sustained frame rate or temperature. Check that the device meets the chipset, RAM, OS and storage baseline, reduce available graphics options, close background workloads and allow the device to cool before comparing results.
Bottom line
Use the lowest-cost performance change first: lower Crowd Density. On PC, start with DX11 and add optional features only when your hardware supports them. DX12 brings feature access but can stutter during one-time shader compilation; ray tracing consumes substantial GPU and VRAM headroom; Super Resolution and frame generation require specific GPU families and, for frame generation, a Windows scheduling change and restart. On mobile, the reliable decision is eligibility checking against HoYoverse’s published 2024 requirements, not an invented one-size-fits-all preset.
