Nintendo has revealed an official illustrated Hyrule map for the 2026 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, but it has not disclosed the playable world’s area, width, height or scale. The artwork shows a geography that broadly follows the 1998 game, so any claim that the remake’s map is a specific number of times larger remains speculation.
What Nintendo’s official map confirms
Nintendo shared a parchment-style illustration of Hyrule for the remake. Reported by Nintendo Wire on September 22, 2026, the image includes tribal symbols associated with the Kokiri, Zora, Gorons, Hylia and Gerudo.

The broad regional arrangement is familiar to anyone who played the original:

- Kakariko Village and Zora’s Domain are positioned to the east.
- Kokiri Forest appears in the southeast.
- Lake Hylia is in the south.
- Gerudo Valley occupies the west.
This establishes the remake’s overall geographic layout, not a measurable game-world boundary. Nintendo has not said whether every location shown in the illustration is playable, decorative, expanded, or represented at a different in-game scale.

How large is the Ocarina of Time remake map?
No official numerical size has been published. Nintendo has provided no total area, map width, map height, travel-distance measurement or scale ratio for the 2026 remake.
| Map-size question | Officially established answer |
|---|---|
| Total playable area | Not stated |
| World width or height | Not stated |
| Scale of the promotional illustration | Not stated and should not be inferred from its proportions |
| Comparison with the 1998 game’s area | No numerical comparison stated |
| Whether every illustrated landmark is playable | Not confirmed |
The safest description is therefore “an official remake map illustration has been revealed.” Measuring distances directly from the artwork would confuse a promotional composition with the game’s navigable space.
Is the remake map larger than the original?
Nintendo has not confirmed that the remake’s Hyrule is larger, smaller or the same size as the 1998 version. A useful comparison can be made only on the evidence currently available:

| Comparison point | What the evidence shows |
|---|---|
| Regional placement | The major regions remain broadly arranged as they were in the original. |
| Landmark density | The illustration does not provide a reliable, countable measure of in-game landmark density. |
| Fidelity to 1998 geography | The large-scale geography appears broadly faithful. |
| Playable versus decorative locations | Nintendo has not identified which illustrated elements are playable areas. |
| Numerical expansion | No multiplier, area figure or travel-time comparison has been announced. |
Until Nintendo publishes measurements or demonstrates the full world in gameplay, statements such as “the map is twice as big” are unverified.
Release date, platform and technical details
Nintendo’s product information lists the remake as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, launching on November 5, 2026. A selectable physical edition is also listed. Nintendo says the game was “built from the ground up for the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system.”
Nintendo Australia lists an estimated game file size of 27GB. That number is not a finalized universal download requirement: the U.S. store page warns that download-size information may change before release, including during the preorder period. Treat 27GB as a regional estimate rather than a guaranteed final installation size.

What is changing beyond the map?
Nintendo’s 40th-anniversary announcement describes a substantial remake rather than a simple resolution upgrade. Confirmed changes include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Completely overhauled visuals.
- Fully voiced cutscenes.
- Expanded character dialogue.
- Symphonic orchestral music.
- Reworked camera and movement controls.
Those upgrades may affect how large or detailed individual areas feel, but they do not establish a larger world boundary. Visual density, additional dialogue and modern controls should be considered separate from map size unless Nintendo supplies a direct measurement.
What to watch for before launch
The missing information is specific: Nintendo would need to publish a map scale, total traversable area, or a direct comparison with the 1998 game to settle the size question. Gameplay footage could also clarify whether the illustrated regions have expanded interiors, added routes or previously unseen spaces, but artwork alone cannot answer that.
For now, the confirmed facts are limited to an official illustrated map, a broadly recognizable Hyrule arrangement, and the absence of an official numerical playable-area figure. The remake releases exclusively on Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
