The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 5, 2026, and the remake adds a dedicated way to replay defeated bosses while timing each attempt. The new Hall of Fallen Foes displays enemy information and runs a timer during boss rematches, giving players a built-in record for practicing and comparing individual fights.

How the Hall of Fallen Foes works

The Hall of Fallen Foes is an interactive bestiary added to the remake. Enemy statues provide short descriptions, while boss entries can be selected for repeat battles. During a rematch, an on-screen timer tracks the fight from start to finish, so you can compare one boss attempt with another without using an external stopwatch.

Nintendo Wire’s 2026 overview-trailer report confirms the rematch battles and timing feature. It does not confirm when the hall becomes available, whether it has medals or rankings, or whether completing time targets grants rewards. Those systems should therefore be treated as unannounced rather than assumed to be part of the game.

What the timer does—and does not establish

  • It records the time for an individual boss rematch.
  • It supports personal comparison between attempts.
  • No global leaderboard, official category rules, medal thresholds or reward structure has been announced.

That makes the feature useful for practice and self-imposed speed challenges, but it is not yet confirmed as a complete competitive speedrunning mode.

  • This is the world edition. It has different packaging but is fully authentic and works on US region 3DS systems.
  • The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest - a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons.

What is new beyond rematches

Nintendo describes a broad presentation and usability overhaul rather than a simple resolution upgrade.

Visuals, audio and performance

  • Completely overhauled visuals.
  • Fully voiced cutscenes and expanded dialogue.
  • Symphonic orchestral music.
  • Revised camera and movement controls.
  • Faster loading and smoother performance.

Progress and companion features

The remake adds Threads of Time, which tracks story progress and identifies the next objective. The Nintendo Switch App also gains ZELDA NOTES for the game. Its confirmed functions include a daily accomplishment record, location-finding challenges, a virtual ocarina and a quiz containing more than 2,000 questions.

The Switch 2 microphone can recognize players humming melodies they have learned in the game. This is separate from the Hall of Fallen Foes timer: one feature supports exploration and music interactions, while the other records boss-fight times.

Remake versus the original and Ocarina of Time 3D

The following comparison uses features Nintendo has confirmed for the Switch 2 remake and the newly reported hall. It does not infer unannounced changes in dungeon layouts, item locations or boss behavior.

Comparison point Switch 2 remake Original game / Ocarina of Time 3D
Platform and launch Nintendo Switch 2; Nov. 5, 2026 The remake’s release details do not apply to earlier versions
Presentation Overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue and symphonic orchestral music Earlier releases use their original presentation and audio arrangements
Controls Revised camera and movement controls Earlier control schemes
Boss replay Hall of Fallen Foes provides repeat boss fights No equivalent feature is established by the supplied announcement for the original release
Timing Timer runs during each boss rematch for individual-time comparison No equivalent built-in rematch timer is established for earlier versions
Guidance Threads of Time tracks progress and the next objective No equivalent Switch 2 feature
Companion app ZELDA NOTES offers records, challenges, a virtual ocarina and a 2,000-plus-question quiz No equivalent Switch 2 app integration

Release, price and storage

Nintendo lists a Nov. 5, 2026 launch for Nintendo Switch 2, including a physical edition. The regular price is $59.99, and Nintendo estimates the game’s file size at 27 GB. Regional pricing, taxes and storage requirements beyond that estimate can vary, so check the listing for your market and leave sufficient space on the console or a compatible microSD Express card.

Who will benefit most from the new mode?

  • Practice-focused players: Replaying a boss on demand can help isolate patterns, openings and mistakes without replaying the entire story.
  • Personal speedrun attempts: The timer supplies a consistent in-game measurement for individual bosses.
  • Completionists: The bestiary descriptions and repeat encounters add an optional collection and reference layer.
  • New or returning players: Threads of Time and the app-based records provide additional orientation without changing the core adventure’s identity.

Players looking for a formal leaderboard or prize structure will need to wait for Nintendo to specify whether those systems exist. The currently confirmed feature is a timed rematch and personal comparison tool.

Other announced Ocarina of Time products

Nintendo also announced a 1,750-piece LEGO Ocarina of Time Link & Epona display model for spring 2027, plus future Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo. These announcements are separate from the Switch 2 game and do not change its release date, price or Hall of Fallen Foes functionality.

Bottom line

The Switch 2 remake’s clearest new gameplay feature is the Hall of Fallen Foes: it turns bosses into repeatable, timed challenges and gives players an in-game way to compare individual runs. Nintendo has confirmed the battles and timer, but not unlock conditions, medals, rankings or rewards. Combined with the visual overhaul, voiced and expanded story presentation, revised controls, Threads of Time and ZELDA NOTES, the remake is positioned as a substantial modernization of Ocarina of Time rather than a straight re-release.
