The Bombchu Bowling Alley operator looks recognizably familiar in Nintendo’s upcoming Ocarina of Time remake, but her updated model has divided Zelda fans. Screenshots circulating on October 14, 2026 show the character with her trademark short blue hair, a pink crop top and far more visible facial, clothing and hand detail than the Nintendo 64 version.
What changed in the Bombchu Bowling lady’s design?
The remake keeps the cues that make the Bombchu Bowling Alley operator immediately identifiable: her compact silhouette, short blue hairstyle and bright, eccentric presentation. The visible redesign adds a pink crop top and substantially more modeling detail, including clearer facial features and black nail polish.
That extra detail changes how the character reads. The N64 model relied on a low-resolution polygonal shape and exaggerated proportions, while the remake presents a softer, more fully modeled figure. Her clothing colors remain vivid, but the newer rendering makes the outfit and expression easier to inspect.

The screenshots do not establish every final animation, facial expression or costume detail. They show a work-in-progress glimpse reported ahead of the remake’s launch, rather than a complete character breakdown.

Why are fans reacting so differently?
Fans who prefer the remake
Positive reactions highlighted the added detail and welcomed the character’s return. Black nail polish and the more legible outfit give the operator a stronger visual identity when viewed at modern resolutions. For players who want the remake to make every NPC readable on a contemporary display, the update looks like a natural technical improvement.
Fans who prefer the N64 model
Other commenters argued that the original’s crude geometry was part of the character’s appeal. Dexerto quoted one reaction asking, “How tf does the N64 version made in 1998 look better???!!” The complaint is less about missing features than about personality: some players think the older face and silhouette feel stranger, sharper or more memorable.

The “puppet” criticism
Several reactions described the remake’s style as puppet-like or said the character had been “nerfed.” Another commenter told Dexerto, “She’s alright, but she’s got that same sorta puppet look going on that Link has. Not my favorite style, but I don’t hate it.” Those comments connect the Bombchu Bowling operator to the remake’s broader character-art direction rather than treating her as an isolated redesign.

How the redesign fits the remake’s visual direction
GamesRadar’s hands-on preview describes a remake that preserves the original game’s broad-stroke palette while rebuilding environments, lighting and character presentation. Hyrule is softer and more detailed, yet familiar locations and the core sense of place remain.
That approach explains why an NPC model can look substantially different without changing the scene’s identity. The remake is not simply increasing texture resolution on the N64 assets; it is reinterpreting them within a consistent modern presentation. Link and other characters use the same softer, rebuilt style, which is why some fans judge the Bombchu Bowling lady as part of a whole-game aesthetic.

Is the remake keeping Ocarina of Time’s unusual NPC designs?
Based on the revealed Bombchu Bowling operator, the remake is retaining the character’s unusual role and recognizable visual cues while changing the modeling language around her. The short blue hair, colorful clothing and deliberately eccentric presence survive, even though the face, materials and proportions are presented with more detail.

That means “keeping the weird NPCs” does not necessarily mean reproducing every N64 polygon. The remake appears to preserve the memorable concepts and silhouettes, then rebuild them for modern lighting and character models. Whether each NPC lands as charming, uncanny or less distinctive will remain subjective until players can see the complete cast in motion.

When does the Ocarina of Time remake release?
Tom’s Guide’s Nintendo Direct recap reports a November 5, 2026 release for Nintendo Switch 2. The same recap reports a limited-edition Zelda Switch 2 console and two new amiibo: one featuring Link and one featuring Zelda.
Those are the currently reported launch details. Retailer availability, regional release arrangements and final amiibo SKU information can change, so buyers should verify them with Nintendo or their local retailer as the date approaches.
