Yuji Horii, creator of Dragon Quest, says he made a short browser mystery game called Komiya in the Interrogation Room in about 30 minutes using AI. That is Horii’s reported estimate—not an independently verified development time or a measure of how long AI games generally take to make.
What is Komiya in the Interrogation Room?
Komiya in the Interrogation Room (取調室の小宮) is a browser-based mystery adventure that Horii released on October 11, 2026. Denfaminicogamer reported that it was made with generative AI and shared as a free Claude Artifact. The reports identify a browser game; they do not describe a physical edition or required gaming accessories.

Did it really take about 30 minutes?
Horii said, 「ゲームの制作時間は、ほんの30分ほどでしたよ」—“The game took only about 30 minutes to make.” Game*Spark reported the statement on October 12, 2026. It is Horii’s account of this project, not an independently timed or audited measurement. The reports do not break down what the estimate included, such as planning, revisions, or testing, so it should not be treated as a complete accounting of every development task.

In a post reproduced by Denfaminicogamer, Horii also reflected that AI let one person make a reasonably decent game by giving instructions, even without drawing or programming. That English wording is a translation of his Japanese post, not a verified verbatim English quote. His statement expresses his reaction to this experiment; it does not establish that AI can produce a finished game in 30 minutes as a general rule.
What do you do in the game?
You play a police officer questioning Komiya, an elderly former locksmith suspected of robbing a pawnshop safe. The aim is to find contradictions between his testimony and the evidence, then use those discrepancies to expose lies.

The reports describe agitation and resistance meters. If Komiya’s resistance reaches 100, he stops cooperating. The ending varies according to how many lies the player uncovers, and testimony can be reread. Game*Spark estimates a playthrough at about 5–10 minutes; that is the publication’s estimate, not a measured average.
What does the AI claim show—and what does it not?
Horii’s example shows how he used AI instructions to make a compact, playable browser experiment without personally doing all the drawing or programming. He also recalled making The Portopia Serial Murder Case himself, offering a personal contrast between that earlier work and this AI-assisted project.

The available reporting does not quantify the labor, quality, or production inputs for both games, so it cannot support a like-for-like comparison. Nor does one short project establish a typical development time, the capabilities needed to make a larger game, or how much human revision was involved.
