Yes. Blizzard’s public World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test on October 19, 2026 is the announced one-time opportunity to try the game before launch without a subscription, Game Time, invitation, or beta access. You install it from the Battle.net desktop app, but everything created during the test—including characters, names, and guilds—will be deleted afterward.
When the free Forever test starts
The public stress test is scheduled for October 19, 2026. Blizzard lists these regional start times:
| Region | Start time |
|---|---|
| North America | 2:00 p.m. PDT, October 19 |
| Europe | 19:00 CEST, October 19 |
| Korea | 06:00 KST, October 20 |
| Taiwan | 05:00 CST, October 20 |
The schedule is a testing window rather than a guaranteed fixed session. Blizzard says it may end earlier or continue later as needed. Plan to join near the listed start time and check the launcher if the realm is not immediately available.

Who can participate
The stress test is open to everyone. Blizzard’s announcement says: “Anyone can take part and no subscription, Game Time, invitation, or beta access is required.” You do not need to have been selected for the separate beta, and you do not need a qualifying purchase to enter this test.
#1 Best Overall
- World of Warcraft Game
- Includes Expansion Packs: The Burnings Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria
- 30 days of free game time included
- Includes levels 1 through 90
- Subscription, Internet connection, and Battle.net registration required
How to install the October 19 stress test
- Open the Battle.net desktop app and allow it to finish updating.
- Select World of Warcraft in the games list.
- Open the Game Version menu above the Play button.
- Under In Development, choose World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test, then select Install.
- When the test window opens, select Play and choose an available test realm.
- Create a new test character and enter the game.
If the stress-test option is missing, first let Battle.net complete its update, then reopen the game-version menu. Availability can also depend on the test window being live.
What happens to your test character and progress
Nothing created on the stress-test realms is permanent. Blizzard states that all test characters, names, and guilds will be wiped after the event as preparation for name reservations. Treat the session as a technical preview: do not spend time assuming a character, guild name, items, or progress will carry into launch.

Other ways to play without Game Time
The October 19 stress test is not the only announced exception, but the alternatives have different timing and requirements.
| Access route | Cost | Date or window | Eligibility | Installation | Progress persists? | After the window |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public Forever Stress Test | No subscription or Game Time | October 19, 2026; regional start times above | Anyone; no invitation or beta access required | Battle.net, Game Version > In Development | No; characters, names, and guilds are wiped | Access ends when Blizzard closes the test |
| Invite-A-Friend Launch Code | No subscription or Game Time for the invitee | November 4–11, 2026 | An eligible code from a qualifying pre-purchase | Use the normal Battle.net World of Warcraft installation, then redeem or apply the code as instructed | Not stated in the announcement; the code only covers this limited access window | Normal access rules apply after November 11 |
| Regular Forever access | WoW Subscription or Game Time | From global launch on November 4, 2026 | Account with the required active access | Standard Battle.net World of Warcraft client | Yes, subject to normal account and service rules | Continues while subscription or Game Time remains active |
When Forever launches and what it normally costs
Blizzard lists the global launch for November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. At launch, Forever access is included with a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. The no-subscription promise for the stress test—and the separate November 4–11 invite-code exception—should not be confused with the ordinary post-launch access model.
Is the standard level-20 Free Trial enough?
Blizzard’s general World of Warcraft Free Trial changes accounts without an active subscription or recurring Game Time to a starter account playable through level 20. The published Free Trial information does not confirm that Forever is included in that ordinary level-20 offering. Therefore, do not rely on the standard Free Trial as a confirmed way to play Forever.
Beta timing versus the public test
The beta is a separate program, with October 21, 2026 listed as its last full testing day. Beta participation is not a prerequisite for the public stress test. Conversely, taking part in the stress test does not grant continuing beta access or permanent launch access.

What to do before October 19
- Install or update the Battle.net desktop app.
- Confirm that your account can sign in before the regional start time.
- Choose the Forever Stress Test entry under In Development and begin downloading it in advance.
- Keep expectations temporary: test characters and guild data will be removed.
- If you want to continue after November 4, plan on an active WoW Subscription or Game Time unless you qualify for the limited Invite-A-Friend Launch Code window.
The practical answer
You can try World of Warcraft: Forever for free on October 19, 2026, without a subscription, Game Time, invitation, or beta access. It is a time-limited stress test with a full data wipe, not a permanent free edition. After launch on November 4, normal access requires a subscription or Game Time, except for the separately announced qualifying friend-code window from November 4 through November 11.
