YouTube Music is putting a visible generative-AI disclosure on song player pages, while Deezer is using automated detection, album-level tags, recommendation exclusions and anti-fraud removals. The two services are addressing the same surge with different priorities: YouTube emphasizes transparency, and Deezer combines transparency with distribution and royalty controls.
What YouTube Music is changing
YouTube’s October 14, 2026 announcement says labels are rolling out in YouTube Music for songs created primarily with generative AI. The disclosure appears directly on the player page; tapping it opens additional information. YouTube says the scope can include music where a generative model created the composition and vocals.
The company is working with music partners and applying detection tools and labeling principles already used across YouTube. YouTube also says the disclosures will expand to the main YouTube app. The announcement does not promise a listener setting that blocks, filters or hides AI-generated tracks, and regional availability or implementation details may change during the rollout.
“AI-generated” in this announcement refers to primarily generated work. A recording made by human performers with limited AI assistance may be handled differently from a track whose composition and vocals were produced by a generative model.

How quickly AI music is arriving on Deezer
Deezer’s figures describe its own deliveries and streams, not the entire global streaming market. They show a rapid increase in uploads alongside a much smaller listening share.
| Date | Deezer-reported AI uploads | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| January 24, 2025 | About 10,000 fully AI-generated tracks per day, roughly 10% of daily content | Deezer said its detector could identify outputs from models including Suno and Udio and would support tagging and recommendation exclusions. |
| April 16, 2025 | More than 20,000 per day, over 18% of uploads | Chief Innovation Officer Aurelien Herault said the flow continued to accelerate. |
| April 20, 2026 | Nearly 75,000 per day, about 44% of daily uploads | AI music represented only 1–3% of total streams; Deezer said 85% of streams on fully AI-generated tracks were detected as fraudulent and demonetized. |
| June 2026 peak, reported July 21, 2026 | More than half of new deliveries; monthly average about 90,000 tracks per day | Deezer announced systematic removal of tracks used for streaming fraud and tracks with no stream for at least six months. |
Deezer also reported detecting and tagging 13.4 million AI-generated tracks during 2025. The contrast between upload volume and listening share matters: a large catalog can consume moderation and discovery resources even when listeners play only a small fraction of it.

Detection, labels and recommendations: the platform comparison
| Issue | YouTube Music | Deezer |
|---|---|---|
| Disclosure placement | Label shown on the individual song’s player page, with more information available when tapped | Public AI tag applied at album level |
| Detection approach | Partner information plus YouTube’s internal detection tools; details of an accuracy rate were not stated | Model-artifact detection; Deezer reports 99.8% accuracy, a company-reported figure rather than an independently audited benchmark |
| Discovery controls | No AI-music blocking or filtering control was promised in the announcement | Detected fully AI-generated tracks are excluded automatically from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists |
| Fraud and catalog enforcement | The announcement focuses on transparency and does not specify royalty-enforcement rules | Fraudulent streams are demonetized; fraudulent tracks and tracks with no stream for six months are subject to removal under the 2026 policy |
| Availability beyond the service | No comparable licensing program was announced | Detector licensing became available in January 2026 to other streaming services, rights organizations, distributors and other music-industry organizations |
Why Deezer uses an album-level public tag
Deezer says its detector looks for artifacts left by generative models that are generally inaudible to people but uncommon in authentic recordings. Its July 2026 FAQ reports approximately two missed AI tracks per 1,000 and fewer than one false positive per 10,000 genuine tracks. Because no automated detector is perfect, Deezer applies the public label at album level to reduce the risk of presenting an uncertain track-by-track judgment as absolute.

- On YouTube Music, look for the generative-AI disclosure on a song’s player page and tap it for the additional information. The announced feature is identification, not a guaranteed opt-out.
- On Deezer, detected fully AI-generated music is kept out of algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. That reduces its appearance through curated discovery, but it is not the same as a user-controlled catalog-wide block.
- Neither announcement establishes that every AI-assisted human recording will receive the same treatment as a fully or primarily generated track.
How the policies affect artists and royalties
Deezer’s enforcement is aimed at manipulation as well as labeling. In 2025 it said as many as 85% of streams on fully AI-generated tracks were fraudulent and that those streams were demonetized. Its 2026 policy adds removal for tracks used in streaming fraud and for tracks that receive no stream for six months. These actions target artificial activity; they do not mean that every AI-generated listen is fraudulent.

YouTube’s October 2026 announcement does not describe an equivalent royalty-screening or removal program. Its stated intervention is to show listeners what they are hearing and to extend that disclosure from YouTube Music to the main YouTube app.
Deezer cites a CISAC and PMP Strategy study forecasting that nearly 25% of creators’ revenues could be at risk by 2028, potentially representing €4 billion. That is a forward-looking estimate from the named study, not a measurement of losses already incurred. The practical concern is that mass-produced tracks could attract recommendation exposure or fraudulent plays, dividing attention and payouts without adding comparable human creative work.

What listeners and the wider industry want
A Deezer-commissioned Ipsos survey of 9,000 people in eight countries, conducted in November 2025, found that 97% of respondents could not distinguish fully AI-generated music from human-made music in a blind test. Eighty percent agreed that 100% AI-generated music should be clearly labeled, and 73% of music-streaming users wanted to know if a service was recommending 100% AI-generated music.
Those results explain the emphasis on disclosure: audible clues alone are unreliable. Deezer’s detector is now offered for licensing to other parts of the music ecosystem, potentially allowing distributors, rights organizations and competing platforms to use a common detection layer. Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier has called for shared industry standards, while YouTube is extending labeling across its own services.

Bottom line for choosing and using a streaming service
YouTube Music offers a direct, song-level explanation at the point of playback, with labels planned for the main YouTube app. Deezer goes further operationally: it detects model artifacts, labels at album level, removes detected tracks from recommendation systems, demonetizes fraudulent activity and removes specified categories of tracks. Neither service has announced a perfect listener-side “hide all AI music” switch, so users who want to avoid it must currently rely on the disclosures and on Deezer’s recommendation exclusions rather than a universal filter.
