YouTube Hype lets viewers give eligible recent videos points toward a country-specific leaderboard. It is an exposure opportunity—not a promise of views, subscribers, or channel growth. To qualify, a creator must be in the YouTube Partner Program, have 500 to 500,000 subscribers, and be in a supported country.
What YouTube Hype does
Hype is a way for viewers to endorse an eligible long-form video during its first seven days after publication. Each Hype adds points, and YouTube adds a subscriber-count bonus. Videos with the most points can appear on a country-specific leaderboard, where viewers can browse videos by topic.
YouTube Help describes the feature as designed for “up-and-coming creators in the YouTube Partner Program with 500–500,000 subscribers.” The larger bonus for smaller channels gives them a scoring advantage, but ranking still depends on viewer participation and competition from other videos.

Who can use Hype, and where
Creator requirements
- The creator must be in the YouTube Partner Program.
- The channel must have between 500 and 500,000 subscribers.
- The creator must be in a country where Hype is available.
YouTube’s Help page currently lists Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Viewer requirements
Viewers need to be in a supported location, signed in, and using a current version of the YouTube mobile app. The standard flow provides up to three no-cost Hypes per week. A viewer can spend them on one video or distribute them among several; the weekly allotment refreshes Monday at 12:00 a.m. local time. YouTube documentation also mentions a limited paid Hype test in Brazil and Türkiye on an Android page variant, which should not be mistaken for general availability.
How points and the leaderboard work
A Hype adds points to a video immediately. YouTube also applies a bonus based on the creator’s subscriber count, with smaller eligible channels receiving more bonus points. Its Help page gives these examples:

These are illustrations of YouTube’s scoring treatment, not estimates of audience reach or a guarantee of leaderboard placement. A smaller channel’s higher bonus does not ensure it will outrank a larger channel; total points and competing videos matter.
The leaderboard is specific to each country, not tailored to an individual viewer. YouTube says it refreshes about every few minutes and allows browsing up to 50 videos within topic categories. High-point videos may receive a leaderboard rank badge, and points and rank can appear in the video description. Creators cannot currently see which individual viewers hyped their videos. Which videos are eligible
The video must be a long-form upload published within the previous seven days. YouTube excludes:
- Shorts
- Age-restricted videos
- Misleading, clickbait, or sensational content
- Unlisted or private videos
- Made-for-kids videos
- Videos with copyright claims
- Videos with YouTube Giving fundraisers
- Livestreams and Premieres while they are live
An archived long-form version of live content may be eligible. YouTube may revise its policies and remove Hype from channels or leaderboard content that violates them. Review the eligibility and policy details if a video does not show the option.

How viewers hype a video
- Open the current YouTube mobile app and sign in from a supported location.
- Open an eligible creator’s long-form video published within the last seven days.
- Select Hype on the video and confirm if prompted. The Hype uses one of your weekly allotment.
If Hype is missing, check the video’s age, format, privacy setting, publication date, and any exclusions above. The feature also depends on creator eligibility and location, so not every recent video will offer it. YouTube’s Hype a video instructions provide the current viewer flow.

How creators can manage Hype
Hype is enabled by default for eligible creators. Creators who do not want to participate can turn it off in YouTube Studio settings on desktop or mobile. Details are in YouTube’s instructions for managing hyped videos.

If you want to participate, confirm that your channel meets the Partner Program and subscriber requirements, verify that Hype is available in your country, and publish an eligible long-form video. The Hype window lasts seven days. You can invite viewers to use their weekly Hypes, but avoid promising that doing so will produce a particular ranking or growth outcome.
What Hype can—and cannot—do for a small channel
Hype creates a discovery surface where eligible videos can compete for attention, and its subscriber-based bonus gives smaller channels more points per Hype than larger eligible channels. That can make the feature useful to creators who already have viewers willing to participate. YouTube’s official materials do not establish an average increase in views, subscribers, or channel growth attributable to Hype, so treat leaderboard exposure as a possibility rather than a forecast.
