Yes—possibly. Microsoft is rolling out remote shutdown, restart, sleep and related power controls through the Android Link to Windows app and Windows Phone Link. The controls are not yet documented as universally available, so whether you see them depends on Microsoft’s rollout, your app versions and account. If the option is absent, a desktop-helper app can provide documented shutdown and restart commands.
What Microsoft is rolling out
Reports from Android Authority describe Link to Windows controls for shutting down, restarting, putting a PC to sleep and handling update-related power actions. Windows Central found code pointing to the same actions, but said Microsoft had not confirmed general public availability.
That means the feature should be treated as a staged rollout, not a guaranteed Phone Link function. A compatible setup can still lack the controls until Microsoft enables them for the relevant app build or account.

The reported flow includes a warning that reads: “After it’s asleep, it will be disconnected from this device. You need to go to your PC to wake it up.” This is important: remote power controls do not automatically mean your phone can turn every sleeping or powered-off computer back on.

Requirements for Phone Link
Microsoft’s documented baseline is listed on its Phone Link requirements and setup page.

How to pair your Android phone and PC
- Install or open Phone Link on the Windows PC.
- Install or open Link to Windows on the Android phone.
- In Phone Link, choose the Android connection option and display the QR code.
- Use Link to Windows to scan the QR code, then sign in with the same Microsoft account on both devices.
- Accept the requested permissions and keep both devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network while testing the connection.
- Update Windows, Phone Link and Link to Windows before checking whether a power-control panel has appeared.
If Microsoft has enabled the feature for your setup, the new shutdown, restart or sleep actions should appear within the available device controls. The exact label and location can change during a rollout, so an older-looking interface does not prove that your hardware is incompatible.

Why the power controls may be missing or fail

- Staged availability: Microsoft may not have enabled the reported controls for your account or app version.
- Different networks: Move the phone and PC to the same private Wi-Fi network. Workplace and public networks may block the communication Phone Link needs.
- Battery restrictions: Android battery saver or battery-optimization rules can suspend Link to Windows. Disable battery optimization for Link to Windows when testing an unreliable connection.
- Out-of-date software: Update Windows, Phone Link and Link to Windows, then restart both devices.
- Permissions or account mismatch: Recheck that the QR pairing completed and that both apps use the intended Microsoft account.
- Sleeping PC behavior: A PC may disconnect from Phone Link after entering sleep, requiring someone at the PC to wake it.
Shutdown is not the same as remote wake
Shutting down or restarting a running Windows PC is different from powering it on remotely. Wake-up generally depends on the PC’s hardware and firmware supporting Wake-on-LAN, the network adapter being configured to listen while the machine is asleep, and the network allowing the wake packet to reach it. The Microsoft reports do not promise that every Phone Link-compatible PC can be woken remotely. Treat the reported sleep warning as an explicit limitation rather than assuming a phone can recover an unreachable computer.

Third-party utilities already document remote power commands, but they require a separate desktop component and have their own security models.

Choose based on the network you need to cross and whether you are comfortable leaving a helper service installed on the computer. A local-network tool is different from an internet-accessible control path; using a VPN can avoid exposing a power service directly to the public internet.
Security checks before enabling remote control
- Use a strong, unique password for the Microsoft account used by Phone Link and enable multifactor authentication.
- Pair only with a phone and PC you control, and review Android permissions granted to Link to Windows.
- Keep the desktop operating system and companion software patched.
- Prefer a trusted home network or a properly secured VPN instead of forwarding an unknown power-control port from your router.
- Remember that a shutdown command can interrupt unsaved work. Save files and close applications before sending it.
Which approach fits your situation?
- You already use Phone Link: Update both apps and look for the controls; no separate helper is needed if Microsoft has enabled the rollout.
- You need a documented command today: Use a third-party option with its desktop companion and configure local Wi-Fi or VPN access.
- You need to turn on a powered-off PC: Verify Wake-on-LAN support and network configuration independently; neither the reported Microsoft rollout nor ordinary Phone Link pairing guarantees it.
- Your work or school network blocks pairing: Test on a trusted private network or ask the administrator whether device-to-device traffic is restricted.

Can I restart a PC after putting it to sleep from my phone?
Not necessarily. The reported Link to Windows warning says the PC disconnects after sleep and must be woken at the PC; remote wake also depends on Wake-on-LAN hardware and network settings.
Why does Phone Link connect but show no shutdown option?
The controls may not yet be enabled for your account or app version. Also update both apps, use the same Wi-Fi network, and remove Android battery optimization from Link to Windows.
