What the new Siri Remote adds

On an iPhone or Apple Watch, Find My can provide directional cues, distance counters and arrows to guide you toward the remote. When it is nearby but hidden, the speaker can play an audible chime. The chime can be triggered with Siri or from the Find My app, so you do not have to search every likely hiding place by hand.

Do you need the new Apple TV 4K?
For the locating feature, no. The standalone remote is the relevant purchase if your current Apple TV still meets your streaming needs. Buying the approximately $300 Apple TV 4K also replaces the box, while the $59 remote preserves it.

Buy it if your Apple TV already works well
